Metaphysics of stones, gems and crystals, and the third eye.

Mosesonator (@mosesonator) 8 years, 9 months ago

A few months ago I went to a metaphysical shop and bought a stone out of curiosity. I gave it a chance, used it as I was advised, and actually felt the supposed effects of the gem (in this case, it was related to dreams).

Since then, I’ve become hooked. I have bought many stones and crystals, I have felt a connection with each one, and would definitely defend the existence of their power. also during this time, I became hooked on buying lots of plants. Whenever I am not using a particular stone, I leave it with one of my plants so that they energize one another. I’ve experienced enough coincidences and otherwise unexplainable interactions to truly believe that they beneficially exchange energy with eachother and myself.

I feel them resonate with my chakras and I meditate with them, specifically using my third eye. I guess, on a related note, I would also like to ask: does anyone else truly believe in the third eye? do you stimulate it, and if so, how?

I usually place a specific crystal on my third eye and meditate with it. I feel the spherical activity of an organ that is low on my forehead and between my eyes. Crystals are not the only stimulation I have experienced. I once pressed and held my third eye against a few small buds of a dying plant and felt a powerful reaction. There was a deep, deep ticklish sort of feeling in my forehead, and my head immediately felt tired. The next day, the buds blossomed beautifully, and I cut one off and put it in the freezer to preserve this experience.

1) do you believe that gems and crystals have power?
2) do you believe in the third eye?

The third eye is in the center of the brain, afaik. Not the forehead.

I just want to clarify…you stuck some fluffy plant on your skin and felt a ticklish sensation…and consider this a powerful metaphysical reaction? Or am I misreading?

1) We rely on quartz for computer chips, so ignoring the ambiguity of the word power, sure.
2) It’s a readily identifiable gland in the brain, it’s not a matter of belief.

Yes, i think gems have properties like plants. ^^
I use them everyday and also i meditate with them!
I love them!
I also believe in third eye, actually, it’s the sixth chakra of the human but i don’t work it.

@mimic, Rest assured, I know the difference between my forehead and my brain.

1) computer chipz, lol good one
2) i know the pineal gland exists, thank you. the question was about its use as a ‘third eye’. maybe you did misread after all.

@aleen, have you ever FELT your third eye? has it ever made itself known to you in any way?

“Rest assured, I know the difference between my forehead and my brain.”

Good to know. Your responses left me dubious.

“Maybe you did misread after all” -> “2) do you believe in the third eye?”

I’ve maybe felt my third eye when I focused a stone there or focused my mind on the location. for that matter I’ve felt 4th 5th 6ths eyes and sideways ones too if I choose. You’ll find you can reproduce a similar sensation pretty much anywhere on your body when you focus a stone if you let yourself feel it. Does that mean nothings happening? I dunno :p

I think there’s something to stones. Placebo or not, if you believe it you will feel it, hehe. I have a hematite necklace, I used to wear it for ‘grounding’. I liked the feeling I had when I wore it, I felt more stable, It could’ve been in my head based on what I read, no big deal. I bought a hematite ring from some market one day and I found whenever I wore them together something on me would hurt, I forget what, it was so long ago, haha. It may have been a headache, but it happened every time. Hematite has some magnetic properties too, but I dunno the details.

Another time I was in one of those stores you mentioned, I found a stone I was very attracted to, I carried it around for a while to see if I could get a vibe or something from it, I felt it immediately when I touched it. I’d describe what I felt, but it sounds stupid, hehe. I asked the girl at the register what the stone was and what it did, she pulled out a book and the description actually matched what I felt pretty well.(note I didn’t ever express anything of what I felt) I’ll always be on the fence about whether it’s something my mind makes up or if it’s produced from the stone, the mind can cause some pretty amazing misconceptions. Either way I feel it and I find it interesting. Whether that makes me a schizo or makes me a modern mystic, that’s just more the intrigue ;)

@mosesonator, I think you have been conned. There is no evidence that certain crystals and stones have certain magical powers. If I were you I would stop spending your money on such things and put your faith in something tangible like yourself and hard work etc.

@mosesonator, I think ion and of themselves they mean nothing. It is your concentration that works

I had a calling towards purchasing a necklace. I did some research and looked into it. Eventually got myself a quartz crystal I feel as my ‘beginner’ crystal. When I’m ready I will begin to meditate and harness and store my power into it. It acts as protection and has the ability to change vibration / match (tuning/synching). Very interesting stuff.

@epath, Exactly, that’s the conclusion I lean towards. Though the ones causing me pain was kind of odd. How could that be explained? I had no preconceived notion that wearing too much hematite would cause physical pain.

@sephyr, perhaps because you were focusing on something that causes you pain or it could be subconscious telling you something

@mosesonator, the most powerful crystal ive experienced so far is either Moldavite or Cavansite. try finding some and meditating with those if you haven’t already. \
1. Yes
2. The third eye is just the Ajna chakra, and chakras exist. You don’t have to believe in having a heart to have a pulse in your body, its going to exist whether you believe in it or not.

@scott3600, no.. there actually is evidence. Look up Marcel Vogel and his work. He worked for IBM and was a pioneer in LCD or Liquid Crystal Display and used crystals for tons of other technology. Crystals are in cell phones, computer chips, tvs, radios, etc. Get the fuck outta here Tom

@mosesonator, My personal assumption is that while the stones might work for you, it is only that they are a thought tool – that you are not actually physically interchanging with the stones; contrarily, it is all within how the mind works and the power of symbolism to derive feeling. Meditating on symbols can be very effective as you have experienced.
I personally like to exalt the symbols of gratitude, compassion, humanity, inner strength, and forgiveness.
I wanna say a lot of people meditate on the symbol of their self image – that is, the egoic construct of the identity. This is of course because this is the only thing that their mind is aware of on a regular basis.
Symbolism is therefore a powerful tool.
Think if there was a self image crystal – a bathroom mirror?

@mosesonator, Oh, here’s a good one. Try meditating on archetypes – it can help you feel out who you are. Lover, Outcast, Warrior, Coward, Magician, Slave, King, Mother – that kind of stuff. You could try bouncing relativity off of a certain portrait that embodies a personality that you feel drawn to for whatever reason. Be it Jesus, Vishnu, Buddha or some great person out of history.

@mosesonator, Oh and I’d stop with the third eye meditations. You’re just going to give yourself a heachache. That pain isn’t the third-eye awakening. It’s from going cross-eyed with your eyelids shut – of this I am pretty sure.
The symbolic imagery of the third eye on the forehead is just that – symbolism – the third eye sensuality emerges from thought – in the form of the ethereal (the sensation of dreaming), not from your forehead.
If you like Chakra meditation then don’t stress the third-eye aspect of it – the crown is higher anyway.. It’s what makes the third-eye even useful. Feel whatever Chakra is grabbing your attention the most on a sensual level. I get my heart and my root a lot – they want to either be relaxed or expressed.

@epath, I wasn’t focusing on anything. I just wore them throughout the day and *only* when I wore both pieces I felt a specific pain. Needless to say I stopped wearing them together, hehe. I never had anything affect me like that and never expected it could for that matter.

pat (169) (@epath) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@sephyr, that is why I said it could be subconscious. But who knows; there are mysteries beyond my little world . I would say talk to someone who understands chakras

Yea, i spose it could be deep in there somewhere. Thanks for responding.

@scott3600 If there is no evidence of something, it does not mean that it isn’t real… !? I don’t think this kind of reasoning is too effective.
Anyhow, stones/crystals are beautiful and fascinating and they can be really cheap in terms of money, so it’s not really a matter of being *conned*.
Also, being natural, I think there must be some sort of energy or something something about them. I myself feel really really good around them. Almost like being in nature.

@mosesonator

Since I was a little kid I was extremely fascinated with all kinds of rocks and stones, even with the most common ones. Everytime I went to a river or lake or sea, I would stay there forever, collecting rocks… I felt a connection with them…
Later on, I discovered crystals. The variety is huge and they can be incredibly beautiful and unexpected. I feel a really, really strong connection with them, I have a few (or a mini-collection I could say)…
Holding or wearing them gives me a sense of nature and energy. I am sure that most of it is just my mind, but I am also sure there’s some sort of energy to them. They are natural and they change with time, or they can change colour, etc; they’re not just *dead* matter.
And you don’t have to spend that much money on them, so there is really no problem here.
I don’t know, I just have a really special feeling around them, it’s definetely more than just my mind.
And I feel this huge respect and love towards them.
I have a ”lavender” amethyst, it has this beautiful irregular shape, it fits perfectly in my hand… and… I feel this… friendship towards it. Like it’s a best friend. :)
It sounds weird-ish but it’s really beautiful :)

@sephyr, i read that if you dont cleanse your crystals regularly they can become negatively charged and actually have a detrimental effect. You charge them by letting them sit in the sun all day, let them sit in a running creek for a day, bury them in the Earth for a day, etc
