Within the past few months I’d say molly has come to be synonymous with electronic dance music (edm) shows. For someone who loves the music, this is very frustrating because you get people who only think its about rolling face at a show and not even knowing who the hell is playing. How can this be counteracted?
@smortlur51, It’s not your problm. Fads come and go. EDM and especially molly will die out when all the rollers roll into their grave and the next gen see how dangerous it is. There wont be enough people to support the scene without molly involved. If there is, I guess it couldn’t be considered a fad. My advice would be to just enjoy the show and ignore the rollers.
It’s funny, I was in the metal/hardcore scene a few years back and I noticed something. About 1/3 left the scene and got into EDM. Another 1/3 left and got into the indie/folk wave.
Good read here: http://www.kissmyangeles.com/view/story/finding_molly
@avernus I think each person has his or her own reason for it and I can’t say what’s right for each person, but I do know that the wrong reason is because its the cool thing to do right now. its similar to on 4/20 when everyone is all like look at me I’m smoking pot I’m so cool!! So the wrong reason is for people to know that you’re doing it.
@martijn yeah man I read that article, craaaaazy shit.
@smortlur51, I’m not into either. Would you say smoking weed at a reggae concert is synonymous. I could see that connection but to me it’s just not the same. Maybe because weed is more socially acceptable, on top of that I can’t stand EDM. The noises just get annoying to me. Anyways what are your thoughts on the comparison.
@reinvented2012, well music and drugs go hand in hand and always will. my problem with this is that for a lot of people trying it, its the hardest drug they’ve done yet and aren’t responsible with it. So then you have overdoses because people think its cool to get as fucked up as possible.
Its slightly different with weed because its so commonly used and with a variety of things, whereas its almost like the edm scene owns MDMA. It just sucks that for a scene that’s all about peace love unity and respect, so much negativity is being brought into it.
@smortlur51, I understand what you mean entirely. It distresses me because I understand the emptiness of paying money for a show regardless of who is playing. The emptiness of focusing on just one thing: the feeling of a drug working through your system. The music is not a well developed outside interest, it is fleeting noise used to stimulate you further. You would think that I’d notice the people who are there simply to abuse drugs more while I’m rolling, what with heightened love feelings and all, but I notice it the most when I’m sober. Perhaps the negative balance in my life is clouded when I’m on MDMA. It can sweep you into a fantasy world easily.
@smortlur51, truthfully how many people actually overdose on molly ? Not as many as drunks puking up and causing mega bad vibes / violence / passing out…
and face it man a lot of people arent really “that” into music. but at least they came out to enjoy it and have a good time . you cant expect everyone to be like you . come on man , im a musical snob in a sense but even i realised some people just arent on my level but at least they enjoy it on their own level.
for some its fleeting noise, and for some its their world. dont let it bother you so much
If anyone wants to get ‘fucked up’ on a drug, I’m glad they are choosing MDMA rather than heroin, methamphetamine, or ayahuasca.
MDMA has abuse written all over it, thats why it exists presently, because its so easy to take, so easy to ride, and little repercussions.
getting ‘fucked up’ is what makes these things available, so you should be glad people like that exist. Lastly, how do you take in such a way that I couldn’t argue you’re taking it just to get ‘fucked up’?
Perspective is key when you start pointing fingers.
People don’t all live life the same way and face it these fests wouldn’t be the same without seeing fucked up people letting loose and getting wild, those moments where your questioning reality because you saw something so fucking crazy and hilarious. Let everybody do their own thing, musics loud. Find a spot and listen while everyone else does what they came for
@universaldrifter, yeah it used to be mostly underground, but now stupid mainstream media has gotten ahold of it and is making it such a big deal and causing large amounts of fear. Places have already cancelled events just because its an EDM show, UMass Amherst just cancelled all EDM events on their campus, places are going to start being stricter, I just don’t like the path its headed down.
@ijesuschrist, Its not so much taking it to get fucked up, but to experience it more intensely. Idk i mean I suppose everyone has a point, who cares what everyone else does it for, I see that now. The thing that still gets me though is now the media is getting involved and making it into such a scary thing, when in reality people get hurt just because they’re not informed or have to buy it off some sketchy guy they don’t know, which in turn leads to harm. Peace Love Unity Respect(plur) is the mantra of the whole scene, and some people aren’t respecting the whole experience, I think thats whats upsetting me
@smortlur51, I can agree with most of what your saying I think most people including me misunderstood you in the first posts and got the wrong idea about what your perspectives. I totally agree with “but to experience it more intensely”. I feel that most responsible users who want to do it for their own reasons will rarely put themselves in grave danger unless they are lied to about what they’re getting. It’s the kids who do it just so they can say “I FOUND MOLLY” or “HAHA fuckin pussy only taking 2 caps, I just dosed down 5 because you know how many more beer i can drink than you!” (Sounds dumb but I’ve known people who fail to use their own mind and their led solely by ego). Ego Kills.
@universaldrifter, yeah dude that’s what I was trying to say haha thank you. I’m frustrated with it becoming more popular not because more people are getting into the scene, but because mainstream media is getting into it and turning it into another thing for people to fear and be afraid of.
A few weeks ago my mom read off this post that was on her facebook feed:’ why pop a molly and sweat? because molly is made up of ecstasy, weed, lsd, mushrooms, cocaine, acid, crack, and probably a bunch of other drugs, pop two mollies and your brain starts to become deteriorated, pop more than three mollies and your organs start to shut down, pop five mollies and you die.’
That shit is insane, anyone that does any research knows that its not true. Its sad that people have screwed up enough on molly in the edm scene to cause the media to get to that level
