Let’s talk about morning routines. A good morning routine is a key habit of a master. How you begin your day determines how the rest of the day goes. A great morning routine leaves you feeling grounded, refreshed and focused. A great life begins with a great morning. My routine is:
7:00 Wake up. Make breakfast, an awesome smoothie with almonds, coconut milk, blueberries, various other berries, hempseed, protein powder and some other stuff.
7:15 Take care of oral hygiene, shave and pick out some clothes.
7:30 Tibetan rites, 6×21, followed by ~15 minutes of meditation. After that I go out for a run, and then take a cold shower.
8:30 Review my goals and set the coordinates for my day.
It makes it very easy to stay on the right track, and it totally removes all wasted days from my life.
What’s your morning routine? And why? Let’s discuss the shit out of this stuff.
Omg Manimal! Having the ideal morning can set you off for such an incredible day! I hate to say I can’t find a regular sleep pattern & I’m too busy to have an ideal morning routine (yep that’s my excuse & I’m stickin to it! :)), and @ Alex–I have that snooze problem big time!!! And the alarm ALWAYS somehow fits into my dream…know what I mean?
My mornings routines are very sporatic….but I’ll paint the ideal possibility & things that do happen in the morning on a regular basis anyways :) (even if they don’t all happen everyday (which they could & sometimes do)…and now I’ll wanna make it happen more that I’m actually thinking about it–I do thank you Manimal).. Anyways.. (Yes, Em <=====3 super high! haha) I get up, and am not automatically dosing back off bc I'm too tired (gotta get my ass to sleep earlier!--this ideal situation is NOT happening tomorrow :)). I stretch, eat some sort of random "protein/muscle/expensive" little candybars that have names that sound like they taste really good-but most of them taste like ass (some so bad you don't even finish them!). (brush teeth-splash cold water on the face). Get something to run in on...go run. Down the road, those nice old people take such good care of their landscaping :), past a cornfield, up a hill, the suns coming up on your left (no the suns coming up on your right, but there are mountains to the left, and the sun shines really bright ON the mountains), as you get past the horse farm on the right (and if Duke (one of the dogs) is with you...sometimes it's a bad scene & the horses start charging like they're gonna jump the fence! [kinda scary at first, but they never actually jump the fence]) ha. Anyways... if you make it the whole way there & back (it's about a mile) you're golden! Face is red, blood's pumping, heart's pounding. Cold shower. (*edit--as if I didn't write enough.. insert half hour (or 20 minutes) pilates/weighlifting routine) Sit in middle of bedroom (omg I haven't done this in soooooooo long!), with one candle, put on a drum something (preferably Mickey Heart's Planet Drum). Meditate for only 5 minutes or so. Give Alex his wake up call, shut his alarm clock off :). Dry my hair, pick out clothes, start a fire. Wake up Alex again, feed the dogs, let them out, Alex is usually in the shower. Cook breakfast while he's in the shower. Check on him at one point & make sure he's actually using shampoo :) Blow dry his hair while he dries off in front of the fire in a few towels & eats his breakfast (and tries to talk to me while I tell him to wait till I'm done bc I can't hear him :)). He gets his shit done, we brush our teeth together, we go out & wait for the bus, I make him give me a big hug & a kiss, and make him come back if he forgets (which is embarrassing as hell so he doesn't). Then I go to work. Blaaaaaaah insanely detailed description :)
Looks like a wide variety of morning routines. Cool.
@Renee and Danny The tibetan rites are a morning workout/yoga thing that makes you feel awesome and really healthy and energized. It’s incredible. The internet sources are enough, but if you want more indepth stuff you should find an old version of Eye of revelation or Fountain of youth.
@James 6×21 means all six rites, 21 reps of each.
@stonedragon Does sungazing really work through a window? I’ve heard windows block the good sunrays, or is your window open? Anyway, sungazing is great, didn’t think anyone here on HE did it.
Manimal that smoothie sounds delicious.
Wake up, hit snooze about 3 times so I can cuddle.
Make coffee or tea and eat a fruit of some kind.
Go to work, read and write with HE in between, while eating some more fruit and possibly walnuts.
It definitely makes a world of difference for your whole day if you get up early. I even do it on weekends sometimes.
5:30ish – wake up with my daughter (2yrs old)
5:30-6:15 feed cats, go outside with dogs/weather check.
also: stretching/play human jungle gym/dancing (weird al is rosemary’s current fave)
6:15: wake up wife and son (8), prep mixed fruit plate for all of us
6:15-6:45: more of the 5:45-6:15 activities, little girls and pets don’t have the same sched every day so my mornings are fluid
6:45-7:15: breakfast for son/get him ready for school
7:15-7:30: talk about life while waiting for the bus
7:30: wife and I “create our day”
7:45: computer on, pandora or winamp playlist based on mood, work commences
Wake up 6:30ish

Thats me time i also play music and journey to this site

@manimal, what else is in your shake?
1. wake up, remember dreams
2. go back to sleep, more dreams
3. repeat 1 and 2 till I can’t sleep
4. smoke bowl maybe meditate
6. shower, shave, brush teeth, etc.
8. figure out what I’m going to do
At the beginning of this semester when I started the cold shower challenge I had an AWESOME morning routine. Or… at least I had the first morning routine I have ever had and it felt awesome. I got up at 7am everyday, threw open my window, made my bed, took a shower, did some homework, and walked a mile to school. Sadly I seem to give up most new habits after 30 days :/ Which is weird because you would think thats when they would start to stick. My morning routine was great though because I also needed a night routine of cleaning my room to go with it, because I didnt feel like open my window to the world with a disaster of a room haha. But now I hit snooze a 2 or 3 (or 5 or 6) times and roll out of bed just in time to throw on whatever clothes are on my floor and get the bus to school. I need to get back into a routine.
7:35 slowly roll out of bed
7:40 brush teeth, wash face
7:45 leave for class, eat a natural granola bar, drink a bottle of water, and jam the fuck out with my iPod on the way there
oh the joys of being a sleep deprived college student..
i completely agree that the morning really sets the tone of your day.. most of the time i don’t communicate with a single person until i get to class, but on days that i run into one of my friends in the morning it really seems to make my day that much better.
Get up 1:45
Brush teeth, shower and shave
Tall glass of warm vinegar water – guzzled.
Start coffee maker
Start Pandora and listen to tunes during morning routine
Make oatmeal – mix in fruit and milk – eat while checking Facebook
Iron clothes for work
Get dressed in freshly ironed clothes
Make protein shake
Lay out vitamins
Take vitamins with protein shake
Pour coffee into thermos and insulated mug.
Grab two granola bars and cut up vegetables for lunch.
Put thermos and lunch in work bag.
Warm up truck while drinking coffee
Leave for work at 2:50.
Reading this inspires me to be a little more aware of what I do in the morning. Most of the time, I decide to sleep 15 more minutes and skip breakfast. I should really work on that… :/
