I believe Morrison was suggesting, albeit tacitly, that music is harmless (or ought to be). That when someone is immersed in music that they are in a state of grace where no harm is thought. Ascended for the moment.

Maybe not the best friend, but definitely a great partner! You can always find a music that will reflect your mood and state, or you can use the music to change your mood … It’s great! 

Music is “my friend”. I can’t imagine doing some cooking, working without it.
