My name is Cody Russell… I am 20. My passion is music and film. Before I explain my “current adventure” Ill give you some background on how it became to be.
After I graduated high school in Illinois I went and attended the University of Rhode Island to study film. I stayed one semester AND HATED IT (I could go on and rant on why but short story is I felt trapped and I felt I was wasting money)
I transfered to Columbia College in Chicago to try and see if a specific art school would feel better. I dropped out with six weeks left in the semester. (Again I could rant but a 50k flashy art school was the icing on the cake) Something was telling me to leave school even though I had no clue what I would do. But I listened to my gut.
I then got a pretty decent paying job at a call center and for months just worked making money.
Now for the adventure.
OUT OF ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE a good friend I made at URI who played guitar in hardcore bands explained how his good friend (Both from RI, both guitarists) and another friend (drummer from DC) wanted to send me something to sing/rap over it. I received an instrumental they made and proceeded to write and record to it. I sent it to them. We were all into it completely.
I then quit my job, took the money I had saved and flew out to Rhode Island where we then recorded the song and five more in a studio for a 6 song EP. We also made a music video.
I am going back to the East Coast Feb first to really begin the adventure (more music, live shows, etc.)
I want to get opinions because I am in fact very nervous and also excited for whats to come. ITS UNKNOWN I guess Ill just have to keep grinding and see if anything comes from it
I would LOVE to get opinions on not only my current path but also the music…
This is out second release (released yesterday), A lyric video which pretty much explains why Ive done what Ive done.
This is our first release (released Dec 16), the music video we made to the original song that started this whole thing.
I’m a very big fan of the rap scene. I’m from the UK so in all honesty, I listen to more people closer to home. I’m really into my Grime scene and have been for a very long time. I’ve seen many, many people perform live. That ranging from a Blues band to a real talking Grime artist.
I sat and listened to both videos posted and I closed my eyes and truth be told, felt like I was listening to a radio broadcast, felt as if I was listening to a well-known recording artist.
You’ve gained a fan, it’d be a pleasure to keep a close eye on your progress.
Respect, from the UK man.
Yes, you are crazy.
People are going to say that you are insane, idiotic, etc, but that is just from their subjective view. They’ve been living in a voluntary jail going about the same routine for probably years now. They are afraid to follow their dreams, afraid to be passionate, afraid to live. Ignore them.
Yes, you are crazy. Now go make crazy shit happen.
The first video was really good and I loved the second one in particular.; it sounded very raw and original. I agree with Trueflowtrey I wasn’t really expecting anything but you guys are talented and are producing quality work, keep it up!
If you ever perform near NYC, lemme know!
(@GimmeTheMic) Great man u are doing wonderful,u are awesome, if this is considered as being Crazy than we all should be Crazy like u…my cousin is also into music, only high school pass , now having his own band and earning so much, he is guitarist

all the best Dear
Rock on, Cody! You can hear & See the Passion, and isn’t this how dreams come true…following the Passion?
I Absolutely Looove when peeps drop their conditionings & “go with the gut”…I call these “Soul Sounds”…That kind of spontaneity moves stuff in other-‘wise’ directions, and couldn’t Human use a bit of re-directing these days?
It will be especially fun to hear “Dead Groove” on the waves knowing you shared your first steps here with us…Thanks for that moment, in advance! And Blessings to you & crew on your Adventure! Good Journey!!! <3
A friend of yours posted about you on this site and I took a listen to your music and I think it’s fucking great. The lyrics are amazing, I love the meaning and important topics. The production is great as well super clean and sounds up there with “professional” songs. Also how you guys are branding your brand and marketing it is genius as well. So I’m pretty confident that you guys will blow up if you just keep doing what you do.
Couldn’t agree more with what everyone else has been saying. I don’t know about long term goals with the music, but the lyrics are great. I’m not really into rap so I can’t speak too much about how it sounds but if I had one thing to say about The World it’d be spice up the guitar/drum. It just feels a little slow/repetitive to me. Like I said, I’m not one to judge your music so take it with a grain of salt. Keep up the good work!
I’d support you if you kept doing more tracks like the 2nd one!
The lyric video was very addicting. Kinda subliminal isn’t it? But in a very cool way. Hypnotic and mesmerizing. Can’t take my eyes away.
Reminds me of being bored at a club, then catching the music video planning behind the bar…defiantly heightens the experience, if you know what I’m saying.
The music video has great lyrics, and a good mixture of story line and instrumental. My favorite part was just before you go to the house, you all are smoking, and you kinda start rapping behind a drag of your cigarette- all chill. Not looking at the camera. Reminds me of the times I spent with friends just chillin.
Keep following your gut. You defiantly have a voice. I’ll be watching it April 20th at 4:20 (wink wink)
You know, this is really good. Like AWESOME music. Not very many people are good with music, and half of the so called “famous” have no talent. We need more artists like you guys, that have REAL talent. Your life adventure sounds a lot like mine haha! Except I’m not a music artist, I am a 19 year old photographer with only self taught experience. I have been told some of my work is pretty damn good, but I just doubt myself. But I didn’t come on here to write about me. Your music is awesome, and I think you should show the world what you’ve really got to offer. I’m not gonna lie, I’ve sat here and listened to both songs while I’m typing this. All I have to say is, do what makes you happy. If working in a call center makes you happy, do that. If recording music makes you happy, do that. We all have dreams, but not everyone follows them. Go and do what you want in life, you only get one chance to do it right <3
