Doing an essay, I only have one really legit on,
And that’s eliminating low key monopolies like large warehouse stores like samsclub, Costco, Walmart, etc.
@breynolds1633, On a scale of 1-10 on realistic, what kind of ideas are you looking for? Because your idea of eliminating low key monopolies is about a 1 on the realistic scale. I dont think many people would be in favor of going up to a business that people created, and telling them they are shutting them down because “we are trying to limit the governments power”. Im pretty sure that would cause a major uproar, seeing that it breaks a few dozen laws, regulations and civil rights.
@xyver, @urbanuncia, It exists to a certain extent. Of course some things cant be transparent as they protect our national security. But there is a whole bevy of information provided to the people of this country because of the freedom of information act. You can basically find out almost everything about anyone, any company, or the ongoings of government agencies. But people dont, because…
@breynolds1633, The biggest issue we need to deal with is education. People dont take the time and effort to learn their civil liberties, their rights as a citizen, or the information they have available to them. This leads to scumbag politicians getting elected because people only know things about them presented through television adverts the month before an election. How about to be a registered voter in this country, set up some kind of system that you MUST read this much information about every candidate/policy in any election before you are allowed to vote? I bet most Americans didnt even know who Romney was until he won the Republic ticket. I bet most people dont know shit about what their Mayor or Governor stands for, up until they show you(completely biased ofcourse) what they stand for in the tv ads THEY pay for, and the debate they have near the end.
We need more education in this country about everything. And we need more people to care. Im sick and tired of people complaining about the election results when they didnt give a shit about it the previous four years. A presidential candidate doesnt just pop out one day, he has gone through a vigorous process of elections at every level before they get there. But not enough intelligent people vote because they are lazy or whatnot, so the majority of the candidates who make it real far are the RICH, powerful few who buy their way to the top.
Hope this helps you in some way.
We need to organize and rally. Protests of civil disobedience, we need charismatic speakers and a way to reach a large audience. We need a way to show kids coming into adulthood that they don’t have to become part of the machine. And we need to get rid of political parties.
@breynolds1633, self-sufficiency. If you supply your own power and grow your own food, then you don’t need other people’s goods and services. The key is not letting yourself get in a position where you want or need something that can only be supplied by someone else, that’s how they get power over you.
I believe that if Occupy really wanted to fight the power, they should have ditched the signs and drums and become an Earthship construction crew like Valhalla. They could have put a lot of people to work building homes, increased demand for raw materials, solved a bit of the homelessness problem, reduced demand for fossil fuels, and loosened the elite’s grip on us all. There’ll be no more elite when we stop accepting the things they offer.
