My question for this discussion is: ARE THERE ANY NEW AGE CAREERS OUT THERE?
I’m talking careers that offer us: SECURITY, UNLIMITED INCOME, SENSE OF BEING, NO BOSS, NO EMPLOYEES, TAX BENEFITS, NO COMMUTE, and most of all what we want: FREEDOM.
I go to a business college in the middle of Worcester MA and it is a microcosm of the American capitalist zombie nation. However I have managed to circumvent around those that are part of Meditation Club, Poetry Club, Entrepreneurship Club, and the illustrious stoners yet i still can’t seem to find much hope for my suit and tie wearing brethren. Most want to become accountants or lawyers and many do not want to talk about living to your full potential.
I have come to believe that Marketing is a great industry for Millennials but not the archaic corporate Mad Men marketing! I’m talking about a new type of marketing. Think how Netflix made Blockbuster wipe it’s ass, or how UBER has the yellow cab industry in bondage. My college however doesn’t teach about careers like this though.
If you know of any companies, businesses, non profits, or whatever that have opportunities that match what us Millenials really crave then DROP THE RESPONSES PLEASE!!
Hey man I’m from Leominster, about 20 minutes north of you, LOL. Well, I’m FROM Leominster but I live in Cape Cod now. Anyway, I think your only options are owning a business or art, such as a writer, musician, or visual artist. You aren’t going to find any legitimate companies that foster what you’re looking for because companies in general only care about the profit…yes, all companies, no matter what they tell you. A big reason for this is because a vast majority of businesses are run by non-millenials. For God’s sake the entire government is run by non-millenials. I say wait another ten or twenty years and things will be a little different. But for now, get into the arts or think of your own company.
I think trade schools are really good for making an independent life style. Carpenters, electricians, etc. have a lot of flexibility and those skills are necessary for off grid living too.
Yes^. I took electrical wiring at a trade school, and in today’s economy it’s one of the best things to do, assuming that you’re good with your hands and you don’t mind being a “trade rat”. I went to college and didn’t continue in the trade just because i’m too intellectual (not to sound arrogant lol) But all of the instructors at my high school made tons of money for themselves and some lived relatively off-grid
