New Morning Routine

 Jack (@jackflash) 7 years, 9 months ago

Hey everyone, I was wondering if you could give tips or ideas on how to create a awesome routine in the morning to kick start your day on a positive note! What is your routine in the morning? How do you wake up and prepare for the day ahead? Do you meditate (for how long?), do some stretches (what ones), eat breakfast (what ….etc etc)? I’m looking to create some sort of routine to better approach the day, rather than simply get out of bed, shower and eat etc and then go off to whatever.

Anything is appreciated

My routine varies depending on how much time i have. I love making a coffee and drinking it out in the back yard, especially if its around sunrise. Nice time to have a bit of quiet contemplation. Mentally visualising how your day will go is a good exercise. Helps you plan your day out and makes you feel a bit more motivated to get everything done.

As for stretches i love the Yoga sun salutaion series. It only has to be about 10 minutes to get a really good effect. Its not quite exercise, but it increases your heart rate and gets your blood pumping and loosens you up. Plus as yoga is also combined with the breath, you’ve just done a 10 minute breath meditation! Try the first 10 minutes of this to get an idea.

Morning showers first thing are great to slowly move into the day if you’re feeling extra tired. Start off warm and slowly decrease the temperature until its near uncomfortable. Cold showers are an old secret to feeling invigorated.

Doing something for yourself in the morning is always a good idea, something helps you focus. Either pray, meditate, or exercise. It’s worth getting up a half hour earlier to start your day off on the right foot.
Starting the day with protein always helps too, on the days that I have carbs for breakfast I find myself dragging through the morning. I like a boiled egg and a piece of fruit.

I notice my day is significantly better if I get up earlier than I have to and do yoga. The sun salutation is a good place to start, I watched videos on youtube to find out how to do it. Also just sitting and being for a little bit before starting the day, to meditate, or write, is nice. I don’t really have a specific amount of time for this.

@ jackflash Im sure you are just looking for ideas and Im sure you know what works for one will not work for the other. With that said here is what I do, maybe something will work for you.

I wake up at 6:30, make fruit smoothies for me and my girl.
Then I take my dog for a walk when she leaves.
Read for an hour and drink a nice tall cup of coffee.
Then start my work day at 8am.
Simple yet I feel accomplished and awake.

*As soon as you get up, just stretch your body(like a cat), drink water.
*laughter sets the mood; a couple of jokes and some zen koans(not too many things)
you may check these :
*let the early morning sun rays fall on you, there are some music that are harmonious with morning ambiance(
*You can try skull cleansing techniques(breathing) to clear skull cavity blockages, it makes me feel better.
*If you have time, try meditating for 15 min initially, take a comfortable position and witness thoughts, feel the gap between thoughts, eventually the gap increases.
*After meditation, it’s good to take a small break and then eat breakfast.
(PS: Maintain a dream journal, it helps)

I also find that my days are way better since I’ve started a consitent morning routine.

I wake up about 3 hours before i have to go to work in the mornings, always take a nice showers. It wakes me up. Then i meditate, varying from 30 minutes to an hours. Thats follwed by some stretching. I also do some push ups & ab exercises.

Finally, i listen to my favorite music as i eat a light breakfast & get dressed.

For me, its such a drag to get out of bed and instantly have the idea of getting readh for work on my mind. The morning routine allows me to focus on myself & to do things that I enjoy. Its my me time & it gets my mind right for the day.

One major thing for me is I’ve started to drink a lot of water right after I wake up.
It makes sense that it does you good. The body needs to hydrate after 6-8 hours with no fluid.
It also fires up your metabolism and helps flushing out toxins I’ve read.

There’s already a bunch of threads about this, have a look and you’ll find some great advice.
Here’s mine:

General advice:

Drink water the first thing you do in the morning. A big glass or two.

Do some light stretching (dynamic, not static. That’s very important, the only time static stretching is anything but a bad idea is right after exercising.)

Get your blood pumping a promenade or running session, preferably before breakfast (unless you don’t have a job/school, then you have all the time in the world to wait for digestion so you can exercise.)

Have a cold shower.

Start your day by calibrating your mind. Wake up, smile and bid yourself good morning and welcome back to a wonderful day.

I usually start my day off with MGMT’s ”Time to Pretend” as my alarm,
dance to that and some other awesome music as I shower & get myself ready,
then I make 3 eggs (1 or 2 yolks), brown rice or oatmeal, cup of blueberries & raspberries.
I meditate at the random times I wake up before having to actually get up.
If I have time after eating breakfast, I’ll work out too.
I try to live in the moment and can take whatever the day throws at me.
Life is fun & games for me, even at my job lol :)

I really think exercising is where it’s at. it releases endorphins, gives you alone time to think and perhaps listen to music (unless you’re swimming), gets your body hydrated because you’re drinking water, and makes you feel like you’ve already accomplished a lot since you woke up even when it’s only 7:30am. I wake up most days at 5:30am and run for thirty minutes. it’s dark, near freezing temperatures outside, but i really really enjoy it and i feel amazing afterwards.

I have a routine involving yoga, Feldenkrais, meditation, and a few other things. BUT, out of everything, the BEST thing that’s a part of my morning routine is shaking. As soon as I get up I just clear some space for myself and let my body vibrate. Straight up just go nuts and convulse, put on some music if you wanna do it rhythmically.
It energizes you and breaks up all the tension in your body. I sincerely believe this has been a key in helping me re-shape habits throughout the day. It is an amazing way to start the day.
