I’m excited to see that this thread has got a recent rejuvenation. Today is my 80th day of quitting porn and it’s really been amazing. At first, i was doing no porn, no masturbation, but the real problem I think revolves around the overstimulation your brain recieves from watching porn all the time. I used to jerk it to porn twice a day and realized it was becoming a problem based mainly on the amount of time i’ve wasted.

Since i’ve quit porn and have considerably cut down on the amount of masturbation, I’ve noticed a lot of amazing results. I think the number one best improvement on my life is I use my free time so much better. Twice a day of watching porn adds up to 30 to 45 minutes wasted. I now spend that time on other activities that I just started since I quit like running, hiking, brewing beer, and reading a lot more.

Sex has been a lot better. I’m able to get much more involved in the moment and have little to no worry about the “expectations” of performance.

I still fantasize about sex and still am just as sexual a person, but I think my thoughts have become less perverted, which I like. I also have much more motivation to meet/talk to girls because now I won’t just go home and finish myself off.

Good luck to everyone who’s giving this a try! I think if you really push yourself and remove porn from your life you will start to realize how it may have been afflicting you.

Resetting to Day 1…

LMAO sorry to laugh but this is funny.

I need to say that girls too, have issues of watching porn, masturbating, can’t last long, or can’t orgasm at all…. sucks, I’ll say.

I think abstaining is best done when single, because the other person will tease you to see you suffer….. bad boy/girl friend.

Apparently, the more sex you have, over time of course, you last longer, because you learn how to control it.

Why abstain from sex when it’s so great?? ENJOY IT!!

eh. I am on the fence about this topic. I see it go, here and there, never actually commented and probably will not take part.
But my opinions on sex are all pleasure based. I enjoy (gain pleasure from) the connection sex gives, and I enjoy the direct pleasure orgasm gives. While I don’t think porn is a healthy habit as has been established by many many people, I think that masturbation is good. I have done some brief reading into the material linked in this thread, it is good, dont get me wrong, but I think the problem lies in the unrealistic goals. The article Jordan wrote when coming back from Thailand said it well. We have high expectations. Some are good, but some are just totally arbitrary, like aesthetics (as drawn from the example of skin tones/shades).

The reason lasting longer really matters is to lengthen the process of sex so that both parties get as much satisfaction as they desire out of the experience. Don’t just make this a goal for your own ego or treat it like you are strengthening a muscle, this goal is meaningful for meaningful reasons. If girls don’t masturbate, they lose their ability to control their own bodies, and might never reach an orgasm or have too much trouble at it (pretty much what Karolina is saying). Same goes for us guys. Guys can get a bit overactive, which is unhealthy like excessive use of anything generally will be. Our hormones are different, and therefore (im guessing) it causes us to want to masturbate or have sex a lot even if we necessarily shouldn’t to the extent that the hormones make us want to. And again, generally moderation is the way to go. I don’t see abstaining as a productive activity, nor do i see wasting time ‘chasing the dragon’ (sex in this example) as a productive activity either. Won’t the best possible results come from personal control and moderation over our own bodies? That way we know and are familiar with the way things work and also do not dull our pleasures with overindulgence.

It just seems to me that we are making a simple matter complex. I don’t want to straight up call shenanigans on the research but I think there may have been conclusions made that may fit an ideal and some of the evidence, while not being neccessarily true… I am open to being corrected, if you certainly know things or would like to repeat what you have heard I am happy to hear it and analyze it. This is just my own impression based on what I have heard and know.

Thanks =)

@traceur,

Love what you said. It’s obvious that everyone has their own opinion about masturbating and porn and what not, but being subtle about it is a good choice.

If one like’s the combo of masturbation and porn, then go for it, why are you abstaining? There are many techniques of learning to “last longer”, but sometimes that’s not a good idea.

Explore your options. Whatever rocks your boat, right?

This challenge wasn’t started to abstain from sex or to find a way to last longer. Those posts you read are just one or two people’s own interpretation of it.

The challenge was started to eliminate porn and its association to our pleasure so we can start exploring that pleasure more naturally. Porn shouldn’t be the “face” of orgasm…guys shouldn’t be expecting real sex to be like porn and vice versa. Anyone in the challenge can have all the sex they want..this isn’t about that. It’s about retraining our minds to be in the moment of sex instead of focusing on what porn teaches you to focus on. It’s about having more respect for women and eliminating the pervertedness that occurs everyday in this society. It’s about taking the time you waste on porn and masturbation to follow your dreams and goals.

Don’t misinterpret this challenge….if you want to eliminate PORN from your life, then follow it. If you don’t then don’t. Simple as that. The ones who have been participating have their reasons, we aren’t in it just to be in it or to conform to something just to be apart of it. We have done our research, our experimenting and we know what we are getting ourselves into. You don’t know the benefits until you have done it yourself.

Enjoy.

I get the no porn, but why no masturbating?

I’ve checked out the YourBrainOnPorn site which makes sense of no porn but I just don’t see why masturbating is bad.

@alexmayle, I don’t think masturbating is bad either, but in this process if you are really serious about eliminating porn from your life, it helps to limit the amount you masturbate. Masturbating without porn often leads to going back to porn and can make it much harder to quit. When I began this challenge, I stopped both porn and masturbating, but after about 3 weeks I jerked off, no porn tho. I still haven’t watched porn since (Day 81), but have jacked off maybe 5 r 6 times in the entire period. It’s about practicing self control, not always giving in to your urges, and using your time more productively. Some people also believe that limiting orgasms is physically healthier. I don’t know how much I believe in that, but I do know that since I quit watching porn, i have experienced many improvements in my life.

Day 55. But I gave in to masturbation 2 weeks ago for the first time and then to porn two days ago. It didn’t feel that good but it certainly came to me. Since then, I feel as if I want to do it again and again, it’s much harder to resist.

Word of advice, then: if you feel like doing it, just for this once, DON’T! You’re very likely to binge. I’m barely holding out as we speak. On the plus side, this seems to have ended my flatline…

As far as positive effects go, I can see that I am more confident, do not care about other people’s opinions of me as much (not that I did before, it just put me even more comfortably on the right track), and I find it easier to look at girls in the eye without looking away. But, alas, still no girlfriend or anything juicy coming from this whole procedure — still worth it though.

TheisThatway (52) (@roguenet) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@cubilone, I think you have a really good insight as to your own mind.

I agree, the longer I go, I feel like even if I returned to my old habit just once, it wouldn’t be neccesary. Masturbation isnt neccesarily a bad thing, sure, but like the other guy said, it sometimes leads back to porn. When a guy gets going, he gets going, and he wants more sexual stimulation. THis means porn, or for me, calling up dangerous girls I should stay away from.

Day 7, one week down, straight up

Max H (44) (@traceur) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

Ah, okay, so the focus is more on porn. See I know the downsides, porn actually doesnt even help me, I have little need for it. I have a good imagination.

But what my comment on was the same as what Alex Mayle said. Why is masturbation something to abstain from (while unconnected to porn, like myself)? Reread what I had written, I agreed on the porn issue, it was just the masturbation part that I am confused on. If this thread was just meaning no masturbation, assuming that it automatically involves porn, then I understand, but I did not realize that at first because it is not the case with me.

Day 1 Again

[Hidden]
TheisThatway (52) (@roguenet) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@traceur, Well let me ask you this. The women you imagine when you masturbate, do you care about them or are they just objectively sex toys in your mind, that do intense dirty things. Be honest!

[Hidden]
Max H (44) (@traceur) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

I do care about them. Porn just doesn’t really do it for me, it would be harder for me to masturbate with porn right there in front of me, I have used porn as forplay I guess but thats all it is to me. When I am in my own mind, it sparks my sexual desires more when I know the girl (however creepy that may be to a girl who knows that). You are partially right though, because in my mind I do imagine things that have not or most likely would not happen in real life. So it IS sortof like they are sex toys, but at the same time, it gets me nowhere if there is no personal/emotional involvement from reality. So its like half and half I guess. I see your point now, but I don’t know if that projection of reality has caused any similar damage to that porn has been seen to. And I have never felt terribly inclined to reenact those fantasies in real life (so I wouldn’t say that it is likely to produce a risk for rape or abnormal behaviour).

You have given me something to think about that I haven’t analyzed before! hahahaha thanks. Let me know if my reply was the kind of thing you were trying to get at.@roguenet,

63 day. Funny thing, I had 4 wet dreams in the last 63days and I think that I was dreaming about masturbation in all dreams. Scumbag brain.

Luigi (1,453) (@luigiblue) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@henriqesilva, Interesting haha…I don’t think I’ve ever had a wet dream where I was masturbating in it. It could be the withdrawal..you’re subconscious is probably making up for the lack of actual masturbation that it was normally used to. I’m at 78 days now and I’ve had a few wet dreams near the beginning…after a couple weeks they stopped. I still have a lot of sex dreams though.

[Hidden]
TheisThatway (52) (@roguenet) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

@traceur,
Well, I think it was a good reply. You addressed my question with very appropriate introspect. Because of the way you do what you do, I can’t really say whether or not it could or could not have bad effects, so I honestly would have to say that if you like it, and it doesn’t inhibit yourself in any way, Then go for it! Honestly!

Thats what these discussions are for.

For me, the thing is that porn has been my world. Solo sex. I even make up excuses sometimes not to have sex, because I am insecure. But its only because I devote so much time to solo sex. To my brain, that is sex. And I want to reprogram it to real sex, so to speak.

@henriqesilva, I had my first masturbation wet dream ever two days ago. Today is day….what….8 of no fap for me? Wierd.

[Hidden]
Anonymous (6) (@) 8 years, 7 months ago ago

I had the first in the third day. I think that is different when you are doing the nofap with effort. Another thing, normaly my wet dreams happen when during the day I have too much strong sexual thoughts.

I hadn’t wet dreams since puberty.
