Hi,
I am feeling quite depressed and disconnected lately. Not connected to others, feeling alone, unlike most of society. I know a lot of my energy – or chi- would be stuck, from childhood, my abandonment issues etc.
I have tried acupuncture, tai chi, qi gong etc, which helps somewhat.
What is the best way to get chi unstuck, and to get it flowing again?
How to best unblock all those old emotions and emotional blockages from the past?
thanks :)

“I know a lot of my energy – or chi- would be stuck, from childhood, my abandonment issues etc.”

Do you know this, or do you believe it?

The best way to get unstuck is to be present with the emotions you have, without attaching a story to it and without distracting yourself from it. Become fully present with your pain. It’s so easy today to distract ourselves from feelings we’d rather not face. One way we do this is by attaching a conceptual framework to these feelings in order to justify them. The stories keep us stuck. We create mental prisons for ourselves that keep us in patterns. It’s pretty simple actually. It’s about feeling pain, discomfort, anxiety, etc. fully.

If you can feel energy in any part of your body, just focus on it. It’s all about where you put your attention. You can either focus it on your breathing, emotions, and energy, or you can focus it on the stories you tell yourself. Focusing on the stories keeps you stuck. Focusing on the feelings without the stories allows them to transmute.

Tai chi, acupuncture, qi gong can be helpful for some people (I don’t do any of these things personally), but the real cure is to stop distracting yourself from the pain. People don’t want to feel pain, they’d rather distract themselves from it. It’s only when you get comfortable with discomfort that it begins to dissipate. The more you try to avoid it, the worse it gets.

I think feeling the free flow of energy in your body is a natural experience to being a human. One of the pitfalls is that once you start to feel this energy, it can go to your head because it is a relatively uncommon experience to have. You think you’re special because very other people understand this stuff. You start thinking you have some special power. But really, you’re just becoming natural and are reconnecting with something that is just a normal part of being a fully alive human. The fact that most people don’t experience this, and think it is fantastical, is actually what is not normal. There is nothing special about this.
