To be honest I’m kinda confused about this scene. I’m also curios what others might think about it:)

@valencebore, @melina, The point which struck me was that there’s nothing which can be taken from us. Hopkins’ character emphasizes that he didn’t take Gooding Jr’s freedom or control because he never had it in the first place, evidenced by how easily it was stripped form him.

It’s an extension of the concept that we’re all dead at some point in the future, so the things we possess or feel now are ephemeral. We’re already naked, and the “loss” of anything is merely the illusion of once having it.

This is from later on in the movie. If you haven’t seen it I suggest looking it up. Maybe i read too much into the tale but it struck me as remarkably profound.
