Pansexuality

VeniVidiVinci (@helios15) 9 years, 5 months ago

So I was dating this girl and we were happily following all the platonic activties before we got to some action, and this is what she told me before sex:

“There’s something I have to tell you… I am pansexual.”

I had no idea that existed, but my first reacion was: wtf is that?? are you into pigs or something…?

She continued on telling me that she had a girlfriend and she has been dating her for 4 years. She also explained how pansexuals are interested into ALL biological sexes. I was surprised since I completely lacked this information. So my question is:

What you guys think of pansexuality?…psychologically, philosophically, religiously and whatever your mind is up to.

I have no problem with it, and the mindset is great. The idea that you can allow yourself to love anyone despite sex/gender and anything in between is mind blowing. I find myself preferring manly men and girly women, anything else I don’t really acknowledge as dating material.

Pansexual is a lot more open and accepting in terms of romance. It’s rather interesting IMO. I used to think it was the same thing as bisexuality, but then I reminded myself there’s a difference between sex and gender.

I think sexual relationships can only be for consenting beings, and consent requires the ability for consentual thought. Children are capable of conceptualisation but legally they are not at the age of consent and this means that not only is it illegal but it is not advisable due to the fact that they are not emotionally or physically developed enough for it to be a healthy practice.
As for “all biological beings” only humans have displayed conceptual thought so they are the only ones who can give valid consent. Even though animals may well be willing, they deserve protection under the natural laws of sentience.
But after all that, I have no problem with gay and/or group relationships as far as consenting adults are concerned, that is their right.

I feel like we’re probably all pansexual at heart, and due to our instincts, upbringings, and societies very few realize it.

I don’t get it… Isn’t it like bisexuality??? Am I getting things mixed up?

@moni, Pansexuality accounts for both sex (your genitalia) and gender identity (your characteristics, like feminine or masculine). Pansexuals like the entirety of combinations, from men who identify as men, men who identify as women, women who identify as women, and finally women who identify as men.

Does that make sense? In essence, I SUPPOSE you could say it’s like a VERY open form of bisexuality.

My girlfriend is a pansexual and she best describes it as free love, she says she just waits for that spark or interest to occur and she is willing to consider that person dating material. It has nothing to do with what the person is composed of physically, they can be any gender/sex or race, religion etc. It’s really whats inside that counts. She has been with both boys and girls, masculine and feminine, she just likes the person. It is a very hard concept to wrap your mind around but I think the VERY open bisexuality is a good way to think of it. If you ever meet someone who is a pansexual talk to them about it, most of the time they have no idea there are others like them or that it has a name, its interesting to see what people think of it.

I think within humans everything is valid, but bestiality is way too far. I think it’s a great disrespect to the other creatures! No other specie in animal kingdom search sex between species… This is not natural! I consider just another abuse of humanity to the animal kingdom! Humans think they just can do anything to animals, because we have power over them… This is sad! There are even men that kill dogs or cats trying bestiality. What a sick, sick person!

Many animals go through a whole ceremony before choosing the sexual partner, sometimes even fights near leading to death. How could a human find the “allowance” to have sex with this creature out of their procreation circle? This is just impossible! So sex with animals is actually “rape an animal” in my opinion.

@venividivince I know your girlfriend just means sex between humans… I was just giving my opinion to the “bestiality” theme, because some people might understand “pansexuality” as also having sex with trees and animals. ;)

@prittii, hahaha that was awesome :p I also believe bestiality is just plain wrong… and about my girl well… I got out of that maybe I’m not ready for pansexuality haha

@FLIP, oh that’s great man, It IS a hard concept to grasp, specially when you’ve been raised cathlic… but in the end you learn to embrace all types of stuff people come up with, otherwise you might end up living alone in the woods. Are you a pan too or straight?

Has anyone else ever thought there isn’t a good reason against incest unless your procreating? I still think it’s odd and can’t imagine participating, but I imagined a scenario where a brother and sister want to marry and the arguments for letting them are as good as the arguments for letting homosexuals marry.

Damn maybe there’s no good reason OUT of a moral perspective…

@moni, Pansexuals are more into the person than the gender. The other major difference, from bi-sexuality, is they can be attracted to transgenders.

Yes, I have only just recently come across the concept of Pansexuality, but I have noticed people explain it as sex, as in male/female, being irrelevant, pansexuals do not asign to or regard others as having a sex or sexuality, we are all the same, male or female.

There is gay-man on man, lesbian-woman on woman, bi-woman on man or woman or man on man or woman, asexual-nonsexual, pansexual-no acknowledgement of sex or sexuality distinction.
What I want to know is: Is masterbation a sexuality, they are the only ones left out of this. They are not sexually active with a partner but they are sexually active so they are not asexuals. Because it is reasonable to assume that there are such people who do not want a sexual partner but do enjoy masterbation. So should it not be a sexuality in itself, rather than stigmatizing it as a sad, lonely, unsavoury practice.
If everyone can not feel guilty about their sexual preference then by all means, someone who prefers only to masterbate should have that sexuality recognized and respected as everyone elses lifestyle is. No?

I’ve never meet anyone who’s pansexual. One day I might.
But my opinion about people’s sex life/relationship preference is that I don’t care what people do in their beds.
Why should I? As long as they are happy.

@helios15, I am a lesbian and my girlfriend is pansexual. It doesn’t interfere with our relationship really, although sometimes I worry that she misses being with a guy, but she says it makes no difference to her. I would date another pansexual given the chance but it also comes with identity complications for that person and that is the hard part. Getting them to accept it and realize they are not the only ones of their kind.
