Photo Themes

I’m challenging myself to take more photos. I’ve found themes help me keep my momentum (e.g. shoes, shadows, letters, numbers)

I’m asking you… yes YOU… to help me brainstorm photo ideas or themes. One of my favorites at the moment is looking for little hidden things on my way to work that make me smile, that theme is “Positive Little Things”.

Ideas? Thoughts? Comments?

I usually let the theme emerge from the work as the result of an investigator/adventurer process. But if you need a theme, perhaps; “What would you do if you knew you had 1 year left to live?” or “The little things” or “The moments between the moments.”

@ARCANUS, I like the one year left to live idea… Do you mind explaining the moments between moments? Like capturing a small moment within one big event or moment?

@sbaertat, my favorite photos are post-apocalyptic.
Getting pictures of old rusted out cars / buildings…
Disappearing power lines.
These things I like. Makes you go places you normally wouldn’t, too.

@sbaertat, I guess what I mean by the moments between the moments, is spontaneous captures that don’t appear to mean anything special until captured. Something minor which happened before something intentionally bigger, but then perhaps the lead up event might have been more substantial than the main event itself.

@ARCANUS, I see what you’re saying. I like that.

@ijesuschrist, Also love that idea. I live in Portland Oregon, and I could probably find some neat rusted or mossy cars. I’ll have to go exploring! Or maybe find some old worn out signs for store fronts that have been closed for years.

I have an idea for a possibly interesting theme. No flowers, no sky, no cliffs, no faces, no naked people and no blacknwhite/sepia filters. Basically, the opposite of popular photography.
I wonder, what would that look like?

@manimal, I kind like that… basically challenging myself to really think outside the box.
