prayers

stonedragon (@stonedragon21) 8 years, 9 months ago

i was just sitting outside in the spring sunshine and meditating. and thinking there must be lots of people who pray on this site, and also lots of people who need praying for.
what do you think about praying, it doesnt have to relate to any religion. for me it is meditating and thinking of a person and surrounding them with light

maybe we should make a list of people who want to be prayed for. they could put their names on the list and others can pray for them. for healing or just for general help.
is this a good idea?

@stonedragon21 where in the world are you that its spring? i’m stuck in the dead of winter in canada, we’re expecting a huge snow storm tonight actually. :P

i personally don’t ‘pray’ in terms of religion (haven’t done so since i was a kid) but i definitely do meditate. not for others though, more for my own self-medicating purposes. i think making a list of people to pray for is a great idea :) it’s always a good thing to send out positive, healing energies to others.

i’ll start, i’d like to send prayers out to Katie, Caz, my parents, and Matt.

@stonedragon21, I think prayer is fantastic; it’s a way of showing gratitude to whatever it is that you want to thank. I’m not religious but when I meditate I still like to thank the universe for the life that I have. Showing gratitude is important because it keeps you humble, it prevents you from thinking that you’re some big shot whom everyone should look up to.

hi nikki
it is in southern france that i am, and we just had snow a few days ago. before that it was like spring with flowers and now the snow melted and it is like spring again!
so i will be happy to start the list with Katie, Caz, parents of Nikki and Matt.
i will write their names on a paper and light a candle for these dear Canadians!
Anyone else?
we can all pray or be prayed for and ofcourse be grateful! we have so much to say thank you for its incredible. thanks for reminding me of that Shivvy.

it’s so nice to see you posting around here again mama dragon!
I’ve always had a weird association with the word prayer because I labeled myself an atheist for a while, but I want to start doing it.

hey ellie. we were of the first HE ers..amongst the first 500 if i remember right. ya im back, i have been busy with some bogus lovestory relationship that fell apart. anyway now i think it is good for us to send light for each other. that sounds better than the word prayer doesnt it? it is just visualizing the person or the name of the person and wishing them well. so easy!! and so vast.

@stonedragon21, yeah it’s a good idea!
The way I pray is a lot like how you do. I don’t usually have an intention though other than to heal my distress. Sometimes I exalt loved ones – it’s really powerful, but I’m trying to raise my awareness and focus so I mostly focus on myself. Maybe you could pray for my chaotic mind! Help me focus this god damned vortex. Won’t you prayyyy for me and I’ll pray for you? I’ll let it be known how awesome you are and I will send you power!

“Prayer is talking to God, meditation is listening to God.”
I enjoy to both, they’re fantastic experiences.

@stonedragon21

I believe in prayer. I believe, if nothing else, that a great grouping of minds focusing on one thing from different corners can cause miracles. I believe that this is true power, true magic. If you ask others to pray for you, you are creating a higher concentration of minds in one group conscience, and therefore each prayer is more effective. Those praying also must believe in their prayers; belief is the most powerful substance in the universe.

At that, I will also request prayers. The world continues to spiral: “could describe to you in detail the way the sky bends / in the moments before it’s about to fall”. I am struggling to catch my breath. I work so very hard at remaining a positive-minded individual, but Murphy’s Law is beating me in the face with a metal spoon.
Help me, please.

@existingup, i will write your name on the list i have going now. it is next to a very powerful Buddhist statue that a great master gave to me years ago in the high himalayas. and i have a candle lit.
charter, i believe in these miracles also and also i have the metal spoon knocking me down regularly, infact it beats me daily and we gotta keep gettin up and gettin up!
but i will pray for you, stay positive. we are going to keep each other going!

I pray through my meditations so that when I’ve had a particularly splendid day, I pass it on to those in my spiritual circle. if I find someone I know who is suffering or otherwise not in a good place in life I channel my love and support in the same way. or if I’m feeling exceptionally grateful, I try thinking of as many people possible and sending them their own personal prayer through the visualization of myself being a dandelion, each seed going to a different person.

I think when people hear that “prayer” word they think of it as a purely religious act where one talks with god, when at its heart, prayer is a spiritual thing first and foremost. it is putting out a message to someone or something, or maybe even support when needed. and so I pray for those I love and those who need it

Very strange, but after reading this thread I have a strong urge to go sit in a church for a while.. Even though I am in no way “God” religious.

@staylucky, perhaps you are feeling “the spirit”?

@stonedragon21, Sending positive vibes and thoughts is always righteously awesome to do. I pray as well, but it’s very personalized between myself and my universe. I ask questions, share stories, and communicate to work out problems, and its weird because I get a involuntary response most of the time. . .

Alex (345) (@staylucky) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@hlalhabattu, Not sure, but I went and sat in a big ass cathedral for 20 minutes on my way to college and it was nice. I found meditating in there a lot easier due to the lack of noise. Pleasant experience.

@staylucky, good stuff, the silence, the cathedral itself may have helped too because it seems “spiritual energy” tends to linger in places after a while

I was wondering if I could request a prayer? My mind has been pretty chaotic lately. Im confused with what I want to do in my life and have been having bouts of anxiety and depression so any good vibes my way are greatly appreciated. I will return the favor of course!

Also, if no one has yet, I would strongly reccommend reading the book “Another Second Chance…God’s story” It is an amazing book writing about the power of prayer

@staylucky, im feeling you in the temple. great you are doing this with us. we all need it!! lets join forces. cathedrals have special hidden powers that have nothing to do with the church. the architecture has secrets.
