Psilocybe Cubensis Life length?

Hi,
Just wondering after picking a psilocybe cubensis and drying it for consumption how long can you keep it in your drawer, or stashed away until it becomes inedible or ineffective?

Put it in a Ziploc bag or plastic container and throw it in your freezer. It will retain its potency for 12-18 months

Yeah, @cjmccoy93 is exactly right. The best way to store them is in cold, dark and dry conditions. Grab a cheap, airtight plastic container from Wal-Mart, fill the bottom with some DampRid (or similar desiccant), keep your fungus separate from the desiccant with a coffee filter or something, cover the top with aluminum foil and throw it in your freezer.

@cjmccoy93, @thelastdj1976, I’ve been wondering about the shelf life of shrooms as well. Sometimes I may have them but may want to wait for an ideal trip day, usually I like to wait for everything to be in bloom and the weather to be pleasant. I can’t really use the freezer because I live at home….can’t really say to my folks, “oh that’s just my stash of massively psychedelic drugs”.

Would storing them in a dark drawer suffice for, say, a couple months, and if I were to do that, how long would they be powerful for?

@theskafish Ah it’s cool dude, just tell your parents you want to take a trip with them! Hahaha – ok… maybe not…

But seriously, a couple of months would probably be the longest they would last at room temperature like that. At that point they will begin to lose potency.

There are some people that swear by the Honey Preservation method which is, just like it sounds, putting them in a jar of organic Honey and sealing it up. Apparently they can survive for YEARS using this method with no loss of potency. I can’t speak personally on this however, never tried it.

@theskafish, Well, what’s key is that they’re dried. If your mushies aren’t dried, then they’ll last unrefrigerated for only a week or so. In order to hide my homegrown harvests from my mom, I use a small, insulated cooler that I hide in my closet. I use a similar method to what @thelastdj1976 described. I put ’em in mason jars with dessicant packs (you can buy ’em online) and surround the jars in the cooler with ice packs and change the packs once a day. I can’t say for certain how long they keep fresh in this homemade freezer ‘cuz I can get pretty hungry :P

@thelastdj1976, One thing about the honey method though is that after a couple months the organic honey can potentially ferment….

@cjmccoy93 Ahhh ok, yeah I wasn’t sure about all the details of using honey. I’m kinda tempted to try it just for the taste!

@thelastdj1976, I’d say its definitely everything every shroom aficionado should try. Its actually quite tasty that way
