I was just wondering if people could give me insight on what is a better experience, taking shrooms/LSD in utter darkness or in an aesthetically pleasing environment like a forest. Does the idea of darkness stimulate your mind to create images and visuals from within or is the cool environment setting just a better time?
I listened to a Terrence McKenna speech and he was talking about the utter darkness aspect so thats why I’m interested.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Comments?
It doesn’t have to be one or the other. But I know that mushrooms and nature go together like no other. Plants and forests and fresh air and the sky and the rivers are all beauty things to participate in with mushrooms. Of course darkness is also nature. I suppose it depends on if you want visuals or not. Toward the end of a mushroom trip I once settled into bed, closed my eyes, and watched an onslaught of visual fireworks behind my eyelids. It was beautiful and fast and trippy and I’d recommend it. But to spend an entire trip in total darkness to me seems like a waste when so many great things are outside waiting.
Darkness for introspection and understanding of “it”.
Forest for understanding of the world.
I did shrooms in a meadow surrounded by trees and it was an amazing and perfect experience. I think I would be nervous to do it in the dark. Doing it in nature was amazing, because I felt really connected to nature and to my environment. I could feel the trees talking to me with their energy and I felt as though i was a part of the earth and the sky. Like I was no longer constrained by the confines of my body. Hope this helps! have a good trip ;)
Also, if you are shrooming, listen to Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix (with headphones) and look into the sky. I coudn’t stop laughing it was amazing and so triply. It felt like all the trees and plants were dancing with the music.
@getfree, They can all be very fun, but also bring totally different experiences with them. Forest/nature trips are very ‘earthy’ and really help you get in touch with your roots. Aesthetically, the black light and trippy music (I always enjoy kings of leon or jimmi hendrix) type trip can also lead you on a great adventure as well. Very visually stimulating. playing ping pong, if you like it, can be cool too. Its like you can see every spin the ball makes in slow motion….. As for darkness, its not something I have done yet. But tripping in complete or near darkness with no sound and just meditating would be pretty rad.
@getfree, One time I had to go in to walgreens with a buddy while we were tripping to get a wrap. It was totally the longest 10 minutes of my life. All the people in there mixed with the colorful advertisements and bright lights…not to mention being in public…made a nuts part of the trip. My buddy and I couldn’t look at each other. every time we did we started to bust up laughing and start losing it again lol. The people all just looked crazy.
In darkness, because you get such low visuals in most common doses, the full potentiality of the experience starts to envelope mostly your mind. Many times when tripping in nature my mind has no time to think abstractly because i am distracted by the beauty.
Yeah.. How about. You just do what you feel like you should do. Go outside until you are like whoa I should go inside and then go inside and turn the lights off. I personally enjoy the loss of vision because you see all types of patterns that you never would see if you were enjoying a tree or obstructed by light. Then think about what is light and why there is none….. well no.. just do what you want.
