Reality…

Seth (@seth) 10 years, 9 months ago

What is reality? During sociology, I learned people are biased toward their own cultures. A person classified as sane in Society A could be classified as deeply disturbed in Society B. The laws are made up, currency only has value because we accept the idea it has value and morals seem to stem from a general conscious. If a lie is accepted as truth by enough people, it becomes true. Is Albert Einstein right? "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one." Did Chuck Palahniuk write a very profound truth in Survivor when he wrote "Reality means you live until you die. The real truth is nobody wants reality"? Thoughts?

From what I understand you cannot experience reality without basing judgments on sensations that are perceived by yourself. Your perception puts its own twist on all the information coming in based on your preconceived systems of thought; so there are only billions of personal realities. The idea of a single reality is, I believe, too complex for us to understand. at least while you’re trapped by that biochemical mass that we call a brain

I think our human concept of”reality” exists because without it, it’d be all to obvious that our existence is insignificant in the matters of the universe. Possibly. just a thought~ not saying we are insignificant, but really, its all opinion based on what is or is not significant…

If everyone had the same reality would there be any change or growth?

It’s whatever the world really is. Some say it is how we perceive it, others say there is much more than what meets the eye.

Allot of theorist are leaning towards the notion that reallity is infact generated by our minds. Theres allot more to it than that tho but thats the basic idea. Wether they’r crazy or correct i fear we may never know. But maybe we aren’t meant to know

I guess it depends on what you believe is real. Is something “real” just because you can feel, hear it, and see it? Because if thats the case, that means that your dreams are real, because you can do all of that and more inside of them. I’m still having a hard time trying to discern between what is real or not, because things that are “not real” can easily become “real” if someone decides to use their mind to create it. If you were to go in the past maybe say 1923 and tell someone that “flying metal ships” (airplanes) were real, they’d look at you as if you were insane. So in conclusion, i believe that reality is what you perceive as being reality. (if that makes sense) So if you believe in something enough, or if many different people believe in something enough, it will become reality. Or maybe it wont. The human mind is unbelievable.

I find that a lot of my views concerning reality have been congruent with those of Jane Roberts “The Eternal Validity of the Soul” book. We create our own reality and experiences to a certain extent. That’s not to say that the world is a product of our own imaginations individually but rather that we have more control over the way others receive us and treat us than we believe we do. We each have a consciousness that is part of a collective that involves all levels of life forms…And we “decide” concrete ground rules on how to create, perceive and assess the physical world. This physical universe is a manifestation of that consciousness expressing itself creatively in order to allow each individual consciousness to grow in ways that we would be unable to without this particular experience.

We experience our own realities more or less depending on our focus in life. Whatever your life perspectives are create your perceptions. If you are unaware that perspectives create perception, then you will do so unconsciously while experiencing the reality that you created for yourself where you cannot control your reality. A paradox to be sure, but this is the way karma works; and the most conductive first step to working out your karma is realizing you have it.

So be aware of your thoughts and how they affect your perspectives and you will be on track to changing your perceptions about reality, thus changing it.

@Sal

But what is ultimate reality?

Ben (231)M (@benjamin) 10 years, 9 months ago ago

^^ I think “Ultimate reality” is the collective experience of every concsious being ever. That is, every perception of everything experienced. However, we are not constructed to percieve ultimate reality, so as far as this life goes we must consider our ultimate reality for now our subjective experience.

I don’t know what reality is, but i can feel it, i can touch it, see it, smell it, hear it. Just can’t rationalize it, only as an illusion, a beautiful but complex illusion.

all interesting stuff. I have question for you all… if reality is everything we say it is…what is “unreality”?

[Hidden]
Sal Greco (0) (@surferlifestyle) 10 years, 9 months ago ago

@ Aaron Ultimate reality…

Ultimately, reality is un-opinionated, non-subjective, particles, and movement.

I really tried to answer in as few words as possible, but clearly. How did I do?

from thefreedictionary.com

re·al·i·ty (r-l-t)
n. pl. re·al·i·ties
1. The quality or state of being actual or true.
2. One, such as a person, an entity, or an event, that is actual: “the weight of history and political realities” (Benno C. Schmidt, Jr.)
3. The totality of all things possessing actuality, existence, or essence.
4. That which exists objectively and in fact: Your observations do not seem to be about reality.

^^The dictionary is quite useless, at times. Definition #3 isn’t so bad. ‘the totality of all things possessing essence’ sounds ok-ish. Because that leaves TONS of room for perceptions to interpret said totality. Meh.

@ Sal

I like that.

I’ve always liked best the description I was given in metaphoric parable form:

If we were to come upon a rock, observing it on the ground from our perspective, it would not seem to be moving; but we know that it is in fact moving on a subatomic level.

If we were to suppose that these subatomic particles have consciousnesses each of their own, then they would perceive the rock as a totally different experience than what we know of the rock. One particle, if told the whole rock is in fact existing all at once through the movements of all such particles, would then respond with denial that all the different particles, atoms and nuclei whizzing around in different times and places could not, in fact, be composing a single object that exists on another level at one time and place.

this rock would not look like much from the outside
