Religion As A Metaphor
You kiss your hand and touch the icon of Jesus, I kiss my hand and touch a picture of my mother. You believe Jesus sacrificed himself for mankind, I believe mothers sacrifice pain and time to make their children’s life better. You pray to God before a meal, I pray to my family for being so grateful that we have food. You go to church and listen to a priest, I go on YouTube and listen to philosophical and motivational speeches like TedTalk. You believe in heaven and hell in the afterlife. I believe in heaven and hell as a state of mind in humans representing happiness and anger. Your ten commandments are my morals. I don’t know who created the universe, I don’t know if there was actually a man named Jesus thousands of years ago who preached the existence of a greater being. But if I was to believe in God, he would be the force that brings love to humans. God is the school-builders in Africa, the home-givers to the poor, the friendships that save lives, the soulmates who marry, the mother-child love and all things beautiful. The devil is perceived as a red horned man in a fiery underground but actually the devil is murders, thieves, rapists, temptations and all things evil.
