Remember Your Dreams Better: Give Them Names

MonkeyZazu (@monkeyzazu) 8 years, 9 months ago

I just found that giving my dreams names helps me remember them. I don’t even have to write them down or anything. I’ve done this now for the past 3 days and remember all of the dreams I’ve had just by giving them names.

I started doing this because lately I had been having trouble remembering my dreams when I wake up wrong. If I’m woken up abnormally, such as my alarm going off or someone rudely waking me up, my dreams would just pour out of my head and I wouldn’t be able to remember then until later, but then I would forget them again. Now I just give them names and I don’t forget.

I think this works so well because its easier to remember a name or an object and its associated attributes, instead of remembering whole events and its separate parts. I also noticed that my dreams had people from my past in them, so I just pick one them out and use their names. If not, creating a name from scratch works just as well.

@monkeyzazu, So you give it a random name right away upon awakening? I would like to try this, I will let you know the results tomorrow.

Super perfundo on the early eve of your day.

@dantesparadise,

Hehe :) Fucking Epic. Am I dreaming? Better flip a light switch really quick.

And not so much a random name, but a name that you can easily relate the dream to. I also wouldn’t use the same name for two different dreams. I forgot a dream earlier today doing that. If you see someone in the dream you know, use their name.
