Yesterday i went to a medical shop and i got a free wax hit. Little did i know that wax would shoot me to another dimension. I detached myself from my body and i opened up a new level of consciousness, or no consciousness, i really dont know. some where I’ve never been before. All human emotions were erased from me. I seem to remember everything, but had no care or interest for absolutely anything because there was no need for all of this.
So my question for you all is, How would we survive without emotions? Without a believe in good and bad?
Humans have evolved for long enough that cooperation and altruism are part of the mix. As much a part of us as opposable thumbs or not being able to breathe under water.
To have no sense of morals one way or the other, no empathy, means you are not truly human. And if humanity somehow reached a tipping point of living beings “without emotions” then we’re all screwed.
You’ve probably heard about medical cases describing kiddies with no ability to feel physical pain. They are a danger to themselves, and only survive thanks to the love and constant supervision of friends and family. And even then they STILL eventually end up biting off their tongues and poking scissors into their eyes.
Children with this condition often suffer oral cavity damage both in and around the oral cavity (such as having bitten off the tip of their tongue) or fractures to bones. Unnoticed infections and corneal damage due to foreign objects in the eye are also seen. Because the child cannot feel pain they may not respond to problems, thus being at a higher risk of more severe diseases than otherwise.
Being a human without emotions would be the touchy-feely version of that condition. It wouldn’t be pretty.
Check out the movie Bad Boy Bubby for my idea of what it could be like. An adult “without emotions” suddenly finds himself loose in society for the first time, bumbling along, getting into some amazing situations. It’s like a funny crazy bleak version of Forrest Gump.
….nb: I plucked all of this out of my ass and I could be completely wrong.
@manick64, That reminds me of my friend Jon. He’s an incredibly strange person, who CLAIMS, to not feel most emotions. And I believe him. He’s killed his own pets and once burned down a government depot. I also believe he’s only one side of the coin though.
I think you almost experienced ego death in that high, and I believe ego death is something we should all strive for. The loss of those selfish emotions while tripping or extremely high (ego death), if they could be applied to the real world, they could make this world much more beautiful
Here’s a cute little example of human society without emotion:
But like I said above, if too many of us acted like that then society would collapse so hard we’d all become cavemen in a few generations. Such grand heartlessness in an otherwise civilised society could simply never happen.
Having empathy for your fellow man was and is a strong evolutionary force, and it in turn fed on itself, and we humans suddenly took evolution to ramjet mode, just like when our Pleistocene brains started to became complex.
What’s to say cooperation and altruism enabled mankind to evolve to where we are today just as much as developing a complex brain?
As an aside, but belonging very much in the same basket, I recently read a theory [not sure how long it’s been around] that stated our selfless love of babies and children truly sets us apart from animals today, and that it was also a major evolutionary vector.
Seems like a pretty solid theory on the surface, eh wot? I’d even chuck in the ramjet word there. :)
