running away

Hello everyone,

I need help!

Lets say theres a girl. She finally turned 18 and lives a nice, but “normal” life in a Western country. Since she is 14 years old she dreams of running away, living her own life away from this fucked up society. She wants to travel the world, experience life and feel total freedom. This girl feels utterly lost, alone and hopeless, since all she mostly learned in this society is that money is success, being different is not accepted and all her values and ways of thinking are not welcomed here. This girl is greatful for her amazing and supporting family and knows, that she is lucky to live a rather “privileged” life with endless water, food and comfort, but still feels that there must be so much more in life to do and experience, than earning money, being “successful” and fitting into this pre-made scheme of society, just to grow up living the very same, or at least similar, life until her end.

Well, however this girl came up with a plan: She wants to quit school, leave her former way of living behind to experience the to her so far unknown ways of living. Is there any advice you could give that girl?

Freedom is a matter of perspective, I have a saying “If you cannot be free in a prison cell you will never truly be free in open spaces” it is a very philosophical idea but reminds me of Jews in Nazi occupied Europe, it wasn’t that they gave up it was that they wouldn’t. You go with who you are no matter where, if you cannot be true to that then that is how you lose freedom.

I will say society isn’t the Beast you imagine, it is a product of great minds, in a long war against poisoned minds, that war needs good hearts to fight for it, apathy and abandonment of that evolution is a loss greater than us. If the global struggle is too much then find a struggle you can handle, even a community or family needs a good heart to fight for it.

Dear Ray,

Thank you very much for your reply! I was so obsessed with feeling like a prisoner in society, that I completely forgot that it all starts in your mind. I guess I need to free my mind first, in order to take another step towards total freedom.

As to the topic of our messed up society, one should try to change as much as I can, in order to make bigger changings, I guess.

I really like your point of view on these topics! You just made my day and helped me greatly on this issue.

All the best,

Anna

It’s fine, I’m not telling you to stay or go, I just want to offer some perspective of the purpose of your journey. I have never moved far from my place of birth but I have had an amazing journey standing still.

The once piece of advice I really want to give is this:

Travelling can be very costly. Wanting to abandon the strife for money can make it hard to go places. As a young person travelling solo (especially female), most “alternative means” of transportation and accommodation can be very risky.

Just make sure you have a bit of money before you start your journey, otherwise it’s gonna be very rough and may ruin the experience for you.

Good luck with your life

Thank you very much for your advice! :)

I know the dangers of traveling alone as a female the “cheaper way”, and did so on my own before ;) however I like the way this uncertainty feels, like when you dont know where youll eventually end up and so on. I am also aware that a wrong move could have fatal consequences, but in the end it is this very knowledge that makes me appreciate having a place to sleep or such even more.

Of course a little bit of back-up-cash for worst case scenarios usually comes in handy ;)

Well, thank you for having taken your time to reply :) I really appreciate it!

All the best and you too good luck! :)

I see. I like your style.

In that case I’d recommend just getting one of those tiny tent things and camping everywhere. Including cities.
