SAVE DANIEL'S LIFE- a petition for my friend

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/justice-for-daniel-roque-hall.html

Please read the preamble to understand the situation, and if you can’t, DO sign the petition for my friend. If you’re living in the UK, show up for the protest in London. This is very important.
He’s become a victim of the hideous organisation we call the Criminal Justice System
Daniel is unfit to be held as a prisoner because of his uniquely terrible condition. Please read the article to fully understand the gravity of the situation.

@mercurial, must this continue?

For everyone who may misunderstand as one of the people above do:
This petition has not been created to justify Daniel’s crime or to say that his condition makes it okay for him to do what he did.
This is only to make sure that proportionality is maintained in the legal system; for the people who are not familiar with legal terms: the principal of proportionality says that the action taken must be proportionate to the aim. This applies in all areas of law, particularly where it concerns the sentencing and the limiting of a human being’s liberty.
Is Daniel a criminal? Yes.
Is his punishment (in practicality, it is a death sentence because there is no doubt that he will die if he is kept there longer) proportionate to the crime? I doubt that.
The death penalty no longer exists in the UK, and this is at par with a death sentence.
Anyone who is familiar with Friedrich’s Ataxia or diabetes (and has read the preamble explaining the condition) should know how ridiculous this is.
A person convicted of a crime does not cease to be a human being. He does not stop to matter. His rights still exist.
There’s a reason it’s called a PRISON and not a death cell. His punishment is CONFINEMENT, NOT to be denied health care that is essential to his survival.

Anyway,
I’d like to say that everyone is entitled to their opinions and feelings on the matter. You are also free to share those feelings and opinions with your friends. But please don’t make this a topic for cheap gossip and hurt those that care about Daniel.
Whether you’d like to sign or not, is up to you.

@yoinkie, I get what you’re saying. And please do understand that my tone and feelings when i speak to you are free of anger and i do not wish to have a heated debate about the matter.
I just think that people fuck up, do stupid things like try to sell drugs to buy their mum a house to make up for all the years they were a burden on her. We can only imagine what got them to that point. And once they’re labelled as a criminal, they are alienated from society.
Then i see our governments. Drugs, murder, theft; they’re the masters of that game. Blood for oil, drugs for power. I know i may sound like a typical anti-establishment radical youth, but i feel that it’s ridiculous that they get away with all of it. Healthy, strong, wealthy; they have it all, and on top of it they get away with it.
The first thing i thought when i heard about this was: Why did you do it Daniel? What were you thinking?
Stupid, wrong, recklessness of a boy who’s dying, call it whatever. You don’t even have to care about him. If you look into your heart, you’ll see that there’s something wrong with what is happening. And THAT is what this petition is about. Like you said, “he deserves better care”, and that’s all we’re asking for.
I hope i found your soft spot. Love, anyway.

@johnnynoone, Thank you for the support. I am feeling so much love for the human race right now, thanks to all the people who have shown they care. Before today, i hadn’t felt this for a very very long time.
You’ve already made a difference to one life (mine) and i am very hopeful we’ll make a difference to Danny’s too.

I signed, I was somewhere in the 300’s. Hope things turn out better!

@mercurial, I get a lot of petitions from there to my email, I sign them regularly. I think it’s worthwhile, every little bit helps.

@lyon, Added it to the Stumble Directory so hopefully that helps a bit. & Signed.

Why, was he importing cocaine. Not to be rude, but how did he have time to be mucking around with the issues of drug trafficking. . .why did he not have other concerns that took
precedence over making some cash or getting some blow.

Why, and how, did he even end up in that situation. That is what I want to know.

Nam (22) (@lyon) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@mjayne, thanks for the help :)
To be honest, i can’t say i know what was going through his mind until i speak to him directly. It was quite shocking for everyone who knows him. But i do know it wasn’t about the cash or partying, he wanted to help his mother who had been looking after him as a single mother since he’s been diagnosed. They’ve been through a lot together, the kind of stuff that only happens to good people who don’t deserve it. From what my friend told me (she attended the hearing), the judge was also quite sympathetic to Daniel’s condition and he only passed a jail sentence because the prison CLAIMED to be able to look after him.

@lyon, Send the story and your petition to the major news networks over in other parts of europe and in north america along with your explanation to me. They may not run it over there where its local for conflict-of-interest type reasons, but other places look better by pointing out how shitty another country is so they would be more receptive on controversial issues because for them it isnt personal.

If you can get more major coverage of the story then you can bring more attention to the issue in general which will get you more signatures as well as a better chance that someone influential will do something to help you out. Especially people who need to feel that is it a commonly-accepted thing to do. Nobody wants to be the idiot who supported a scam. Nobody wants to me made the gullible fool. So by getting more backing to it you will also be able to pull more closet-supporters out of the woodwork.

Just a thought if you feel so inclined.

@mjayne,
That’s brilliant advice. I’m on it!

@lyon, Thanks.

Dont just go for the big ones either if you have the time, and send your emails individually not in bulk so that the people recieving them dont see that they are only one out of the many places you are sending your message. . .that makes it less of a scoop for them as they may assume other sources will already be doing something with it or have gotten to it first.

If you feel motivated, sending it to more personal sources like local media from abroad as well as national media sources and news blogs ect. could help your message to reach a wider demographic and smaller local sources seem more personal and relevant to the people where they are local to. . .so they may feel more connected to your story coming from a local than a national. There are tons of places dedicated to trying to get the word out about people in need on all sorts of platforms some more professional than others. You could even try twitter because although I dont care about Twitter, apparently other people still do.

@mjayne,
Yeah, thats a good idea. I’m sending emails to various human rights scholars and bloggers.
Thank you so much for taking time out to do this.
You’re awesome ;)

Stupid article doesn’t even say how long hes suppose to be in jail for….

He probably shouldn’t be smuggling cocaine in the first place if his condition is so bad.. he put himself there and if he dies its his fault no one else.

no sympathy given.
