As an avid quote-junkie I’d love to get in on this. Here’s one from another forum I frequent:

“I had a vision of a Pegasus like unicorn that sprayed red jewels of love from its horn. The unicorn and its red orbs had a message for me. It said, ‘You don’t need intelligence for love, nor physical strength, nor anything else. You don’t need anything to experience this beauty. It is already given, and always present. You need only allow love in to your life, and it will be given. Any striving on your part will only push unconditional love away. Your striving will diminish love into a narrow mental realm, which either qualifies your preconceived notions of good, or not. To allow this love is a non doing, an allowing of the pure heart of the universe to shine in to your own. But can you take it?’ “

@thelastdj1976, That was nice. I will have to re-read it a few times to let it marinate..

@kclaibo2 Definitely. I think the best quotes are those quotes that kind of leave you puzzled after the first few reads. Then you come back to it later and it just clicks, and you get that feeling of, “Ohhhhhhh… ok…” They tend to hit harder than the rest.

@thelastdj1976, Yea, I definitely agree with you. A few times throughout my life, I’ve gone through experiences and something I’ve heard or was told (usually by my parents) would instantly hit me in the head like “ohh that’s what they meant”.

My current favorite quote that I write for my own personal reminder:
“Never let the fear of failure or fear of greatness stop you from achieving your goals or making progress.”

It doesn’t sound artsy or anything, and it isn’t meant to be, but I tell myself every day to make sure I keep moving forward, never stagnant.

“The future does not exist until it becomes the present.”

Dr. K (18) (@kclaibo2) 9 years, 4 months ago ago

@saging, so does that mean it NEVER exists?

Does TIME exist? or is it simply an illusion?

@kclaibo2, for me, yes. Time is just a concept, it’s relative. We use it for convenience. But what we really have is the NOW.

@thelastdj1976, so true, I totally agree with that. I really believe that you understand certain things when you’re supposed to understand them!

Anonymous (24) (@) 9 years, 4 months ago ago

@twowoodenbirds Right on! It’s funny, because sometimes I’ll go back and re-read lyrics or poems or whatever that I’ve known for years and years and all the sudden a whole new meaning will emerge. As if I hadn’t reached that level of understanding yet.

This one really gets me going.

“For those who believe in God, most of the big questions are answered. But for those of us who can’t readily accept the God formula, the big answers don’t remain stone-written. We adjust to new conditions and discoveries. We are pliable. Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.”
— Charles Bukowski

“I respect kindness in human beings first of all, and kindness to animals. I don’t respect the law; I have a total irreverence for anything connected with society except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer.” -Brendan Behan

“Woe to him who seeks to please rather than to appal. Woe to him whose good name is more to him than goodness. Woe to him who, in this world, courts not dishonor! Woe to him who would not be true, even though to be false were salvation. Yea, woe to him who, as the great Pilot Paul has it, while preaching to others is himself a castaway.” -Herman Melville

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.” -Oscar Wilde

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back.

Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.

Strive to be happy.
