@mattgood, Good topic man, I wonder a lot about time myself. There are times when I lose my perspective of time like when I’m high or in a meditative trance, but a great Buddhist teaching is that there is no past and no future, but you are always in the present. So time can be considered an illusion, or maybe time is just a tool used for scheduling. Who knows?

I think time never passes, we pass. Everyone has an unique time, it is not the same to everyone.

There is no time.but there is motion and motion is changement , Time we percieve is due to the cycle of days and night . witch is due to the rotation of earth on itself .but it looks like its easier to our brain to understand all of this by converting it into this notion of time we all have. time is the space beetwen two events . thats basicly it. the more event u cant put in it the longer it will look. there is no time at all. just motion. just changement . only events are set in time as we know it if i concider myself typing this text as a now i automaticly convert it in my mind as an event. but not as a physical motion. its because you cut all your actions in litle mones that you feel like there is time , but lets say that since you were born until you die all your actions are converted into one BIG action. you would have done it in NO time. It has to be converted as an event in the mind to be time bound. the truth is in the real world there is only a very looooooooooooong motion from your first movement to the very last that will be the only movement you would have never done .

@mattgood, This might be why we don’t understand this sentence of the “Creation” of the universe that says : “In the begening” , because we see it as a mind event not as a physical motion thing. If we see it like this then it will really prove that there is no time at all because there wouldnt be a before begining because no EVENT happened because it never stoped to happen ! Creation is still being created even now and forever there wont be any end of the VERY FIRST MOMENT. Its still here its this now and will never end . its infinite. Before the creation cant be because the creation as we get it seems like an event but its not even yet an event because it’s not even over ! like your life isnt a life yet because a life is bound by birth and death , life = birth and death then its a complete life. so there will be creation when creation will be over until then we are still before creation and it is now and creation will never be REALLY created because its still being constructed ! but since we breathe we think the work is over lol aint we saying the universe is expanding ? yeah right !

Time is a suggestion. Every hour is merely a (numerical and thus universal) guideline for what to do during that time span. Oh, it’s morning? Wake up and do something productive. Oh, noon has lurked up, I guess we should break for lunch. Oh like 85% of society got off of work at 5pm…bam happy hour everywhere. Left unaware of time, like our animal counterparts, our latent fear of time running out would have never crossed our minds, and the goal of every single human would be to simply exist within a steady and healthy homeostasis state.

By and large, Time is a conceptual illusion established to create consistent organization in an inconsistently organized society. That’s why when I’m late to work I just yell back at my boss, “bitch it is “on the dot” in my own mind…”… …

Time is relative. It changes depending on surrounding mass. If it is near a large amount of mass, it goes slower than if it were near a smaller amount of mass. Stephen Hawking actually talks about it in his documentary called Into the Universe, in the second episode, called Time Travel. Here’s a link for it! http://vimeo.com/17477895

@nothing, Very insightful answer man at first i wasn’t to sure what this type of question might provoke but i’am astounded by not only the simplicity of your concept of time also the direct calling it brings to me to fulfill the time I’am given. Great answer my friend.

The past is history, the future’s a mystery, but the present is called so because it’s a gift!

…or some shit like that.

I always read in books or from posts on this site how time is only an illusion & the “now” is the only moment that has ever existed. I accepted that and believed it to be true but today, for the first time ever, I actually FELT how this moment right now is all there ever is or ever will be. I have always been right here in this moment now. It kind of blew my mind a bit.

I appreciate the “clock time” that we use & rely on. To function in society, you need time. I need to know when I have to go to work & what time the game comes on & stuff like that. “Clock time” is very useful for organizational purposes but I do not think it is an actual thing that exists. It’s totally a created idea. Useful, but in actuality, nonexistent.

@nothing, Man,thanks for this trance of ideas which are passing through my mine right now. Every thing you told looks to make a lot of sense, it is totally normal thinking, but taken to the next level.

The experience of time is the discovery of ourselves through movement. The hilarious cliche of two people running in blissful longing across a field towards each other with huge smiles on their faces… that is a good representation of the meaning of time. The experience of the density of the past and the ways it creates your idea of yourself, the freedom of the opening of the present, and the emotional momentum towards imagination’s point (which is a good name for a street).

Time is the experience of tension, pleasant and unpleasant. When pleasant, it is the retention between the waves of love that remind us we have the freedom not to love. And when unpleasant, it is the retention between the waves of negativity that remind we would like to love.

@mattgood, ” Don,t Waste Time because what is Life is all made of Time ” Bruce lee

i am not a Scientist but i think Time is successive changes in matter or objects, humans, earths and Universe, we call it time, if there will be no matter, no universe, no objects, Time Does not make sense..

for those who think Time is a illusion, they need to spend 10 years in Prison, they will understand Time is very real stuff..

Take care Brother..

@mattgood, Time is infinite. Time does not end. Time does not begin. When you go into a different time zone you stay in your own time but the time changes around you and you have to adapt to it. What was 9am when you left in a plane could be 9am when you land 6 hours later in a different time zone. Time changed and you stayed in your own time that only passed when you sat down, went to the bathroom, ate your airline foods and drank. Time passes with actions, events, and evolution that “take time” to happen.

@mattgood, The concept of time has always intrigued me. My own research and exploration of the nature of reality has convinced me that our core being is non-physical, and for the most part we exist in a reality the is not limited by the constraints of time or space. In both realities, we manipulate energy with our thoughts to create the very “real” illusions we perceive. In the non-physical reality, thoughts manifest instantaneously (speed of light, maybe?). This phenomena has been described by people who can change their environment while lucid dreaming. In our present “physical” reality, the same thought to manifestation is working, but in extremely slow motion (speed of light slowed to hours and minutes). I believe this is so that we can learn the basic principles and methods of energy manipulation before we can be let loose to create in non-physical environments. Without the proper preparation and training we could easily fall prey to our own creations. In essence we could find ourselves trapped in a hell of our own creation without realizing how we got there. But that’s a different topic. Back to my thoughts on time.
Imagine yourself building a house while someone digitally films the entire project from start to finish. Say it takes 3000 hours to complete. Imagine spending 3000 hrs. watching the film’ or 1500 hrs. @ 2X speed, 300 hrs. @ 10X, 3hrs @ 1000X, 1 hr. @ 3000x and so on. This all just a theory of my imagination.
A simpler way of looking at time is to find an old telephone, the non wireless type. Remove that coiled cord attached to the hand set, take it outside and toss it up in the air.so that it expands (use your imagination if needed), Now imagine the coiled cord as a spiral staircase where each coil represents a hundred or thousand or even a million years and the whole cord is a time line. From your non-physical perspective your looking at all of time. Form your vantage point you can see the past, present and future of any given moment on the time line. You can label each coil by date if you like. Look at the coil as a staircase and find the step for todays date. Now find yourself on that step and get back into your body and continue climbing through time. Keep in mind that there’s a step up ahead, that when you reach it, you’re going to jump off the time line and after a short break, will most likely get back on for another climb. You have the entire time line to chose from. You don’t have to continue at the point you previously left. Need a break from technology try 15th century north America as a native American. By the way, there may be an infinite number of staircases to chose from, at least in my imagination that is.

That is why life has an incalculable value! Because all of this time is impossible to pay, I don’t know, but is something like that. The huge set of experiences we live here, we can live anywhere.

This space between to events is all the we have. The space between birth and death! What you do with of this is what determines how much time you really had!

Time is a human invention, a concept we use to organize causality. Some cultures, for example traditional Maori culture in New Zealand, didn’t use time (even height of the sun) to coordinate events but based their lives on event sequences, i.e. After the priest says a blessing we eat, after the last person finishes eating we sing, after our singing is done we sleep. Time is perceptual, it is one of many ways that we distort and organize the world in our minds. Does the ape, or the fly, or the tree understand time? No, because they have no use for it.
