Singularity

What does this word mean to you? It may mean something or you may be wondering what the hell I am talking about. But that is cool either way. I want to really introduce the word to people.

When some of us hear the word “Singularity” we think about the event horizon at a black hole; where Time/Space is warped in a way that could have a range of theoretical results.

But then for the more Pop-Culture aficionado’s, the Singularity is the moment in the Terminator franchise; where machines become capable of developing smarter and more efficient versions of themselves.

So what you have is a word that can be adapted for a range of general events; the word is actually borderline Meta.

An example could be made with Trolling; there is this playful jesting that is quite entertaining, but a point arrives where it becomes malicious, but the inertia of the entertainment value propels it into this often evil, for lack of a better word, exhibition of complete ignorance, that the Troll enjoys and the Trollee is too irate to dismiss as “Douche proving Douchiness”

Then to take that example further; a general culture arises where Trolling is not only common place, it is expected; the society itself is assaulting the compassionate of heart until they build up this thick skin of apathy. This is a Singularity!!

Another example is where the Corporate and Industrial entities of the world become more important to society than the general public; you have this situation where the public trust is overlooked for the sake of strengthening the system. People do not really have a full grasp of the consequences of this situation, but they have a general sense of it but cannot really communicate it. This is a Singularity, and I do not want to fuel dissent, I think it is an awareness issue, and a consideration issue, this has to be expressed in logical ways, because the system is designed and prepared, over some 80 years of mobilisation, to deal with dissent.

I think there is another Singularity out there; one where people realise that inconsiderate decisions has consequences on all sides of the situation, even to the inconsiderate themselves, and it is a case of them acknowledging this logic and rising to the needs of the communities that they had decided were too much of a burden to their success.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said REALIZE. I look at it like this; A singularity is something from nothing. Imagine trying to pass knowledge of the 3rd dimension to a cartoon drawing. The drawing, or the awareness of the drawing, would have to be lifted into the Z axis, allowing him to perceive the paper he’s drawn to, which is only limited to X and Y axis. He just went from nothing to something. BOOM, a singularity.

Kind of like human evolution; we evolved awareness to be able to assess situations toward our survival, but a bi-product of that development was conceptual reason, I’d consider that a singularity.

Any complex system that is birthed from a lack of a wider perspective or plan. Something that is “out of control”. Kris is right. It is as good as nothing because if we really are in a singularity we wouldn’t perceive it. It would just be plain crazy talk to talk about something outside of a singularity.(In confines of the daily normal life) DAS MAH ONION, man

In a sense a singularity is a moment of event realisation, if the event is always beyond our ability to perceive then it could not be described as a singularity.
