A while ago there were a lot of threads looking forward to summer and all the goals we set and trips we looked forward to and all the things we would do. Now that we’re about a month into the season, how are we doing? What have you guys done so far? Any exciting new activities and memories? I’m interested to find out!!!!
Well I’ve been in England since the end of May and i’ll be going to Ireland on Monday then Amsterdam the following Tuesday. For goals, I’ve been working out about 4-5 times a week cause there’s not much to do because I don’t know anyone over here. I’ve had some good memories, I went to see Coldplay and The Red Hot Chili Peppers with my dad. I’m trying to make the most of it, because this is my only time get to see him because we live so far away. :) How has your summer been?
Wonderful question, I quit my bartending job in May so I could enjoy summer. It’s going well! I’ve already travelled, had a fantastic time in Houston at Free Press Summer Fest and next weekend I head to Costa Rica for two weeks to volunteer at the Sloth Sanctuary! Pumped doesn’t begin to cover it.
I still have time to meet some goals of mine. I want to get back into my great yoga habits and rollerskate more!
I’ve been to a few music festivals this far, hit up all the major ones in Sweden (Hultsfred, Peace & love, Emmaboda) and EDC over in Vegas. It’s been a shitload of amazing fun.
I’ve managed to write a whole lot of material for my upcoming website/blog, none of it is finished yet but it’s getting there. I’ve also made a few songs which sound very promising this far, though they’re not finished.
I’ve initiated two new manimals, who seem like they have a lot of potential.
I’ve read a few mindblowing books, upped the ante on my workouts and meditation. My mind and body are performing better than ever. I also got some improvements for my home and my computer.
And I met an amazing girl who I look forward to spending more time with.
So I’d say this far it’s been a pretty fucking great summer.
@taylor222, sounds like a blast, I’d love to see the Chilis someday. As for me, I’ve been working my way through the “100 pushups in 6 Weeks” program, hanging out, working on various projects, and going to see the Brian Jonestown Massacre with Magic Castles in August.
@beniandtheuniverse, that Sloth Sanctuary sounds cool, be sure to post up some pictures of the sloths!
@manimal, “I’ve read a few mindblowing books, upped the ante on my workouts and meditation”
What books, and how so on the workouts and meditation?
Well I got a full time job so not too much has changed for the summer, but I’m involved in a lot of stuff. I’m in the process of buying ‘my’ first home (my family’s helping out) that we’re going to eventually rent out. Really exciting. I also joined the organization Big Sisters/Brothers and I got paired up with an awesome 12 yr old boy (his Dad left him when he was young and wants a male figure to look up to). It’s a really great experience so far and I look forward to building a relationship with him.
Other than that, similar to manimal, I’m trying out new workouts and diets that I’m pretty pumped about and trying to get in tip top shape (why the hell not?). I also joined local football and soccer teams which is fun and good way to meet people in a new city.
During my free time and slow days at work, I’m constantly educating myself on things that I’m curious about such as, the evolution of human beings, ancient civilizations, current events, the stock market and investing, businesses, other countries, astrology, healthy diet, work out routines, and more. Learning and expanding knowledge is awesome.
I went to Ecuador volunteering in an indigenous village and had the best two weeks ever, made some great friends who I plan on keeping in touch with forever and made some great memories throughout the trip (profile picture included).
Then I got home and ended a 2.5 year relationship that I felt had run it’s course but that still really sucked/still sucks!
Then had a blast at the Volvo Ocean Race that came to Galway got to see Thin Lizzy live for free in my hometown! The whole festival was amazing really.
But now I have to study because I’m repeating two exams I failed in college. But on the plus side of that I’m apartment hunting so I can move back into Galway City!
Aside from all the exciting stuff I’ve just begun meditating and found a workout program that should do me a world of good because I decided about a month ago I wan’t to get in the best shape of my life. Also been reading a lot which is always great.
I guess it’s been a pretty turbulent summer but definitely turning out to be one of the best summers I’ve ever had :D
@theskafish Books including (but not limited to) God-man: the word made flesh by Dr George Carey and Inez Perry, The sacred books and early literature of the east by Charles F Horne PhD , Spiritual Warfare by Jed mcKenna (the last book in the trilogy,) and I finally got around to reading the deciphered Copiale texts.
The first two books are available for free (legally) on the web.
For my workouts I’ve increased intensity a bit and duration a bit more. Same changes applied to meditation sessions. I’ve generally stuck to short sessions of both in the past, time to try something different for a while.
@beniandtheuniverse What is a manimal? I am a manimal, and so are my companions and disciples, we’re a group of young men striving for complete personal reality mastery. Kind of like a “secret society” of sorts. A manimal is a man who has found and released his inner beast and tamed it, as well as reached the “higher self” and incorporated all three aspects into one. Beast, man, and god, a beast on three planes, a manimal.
@manimal, Boys only kind of club? Fascinating enough but that’d be shitty. I’m sure you have your reasons but maybe you didn’t intend to make it sound like you exclude women.
Thinking about it made me realize about myself, I don’t think the minds, souls or bodies of men and women are anywhere near different enough to warrant sexism, there are cases where societal definitions are contradicted all the time. Waifish males and bull-like women. Suddenly it seems so obvious. Like I could understand a Whale Club and a separate Elephant society but I don’t notice the differences in gender enough to say we need an Elephant Male Society and a Elephant Lady Club. I just woke up. Forgive me. But it’s really awesome that you are able to create that community of like-minded ones around you, learning from and teaching each other. That’s what chillin with my cousins feels like.
Summer has been great! Just got back from india couple of weeks ago…loved it.
Got a part time job which pays well and the rest of the time i’m working towards a few goals.
Plus i’ve gotten into a good lifestyle of healthy eating and working out, so that is working wonderfully well.
@manimal, Looking forward to that blog, when are you planning on starting it?
@beniandtheuniverse, Costa Rica should be fun! Let me know how that goes :)
Went to peru. Went to ecuador. Went camping in my favorite place. Went swimming in the best of swimming holes. Drank a bottle of wine on the beach under the stars. Swam at the beach for 4 or 5 hours straight. Travelled and have seen almost all my old friends. Graffitied enough to get rid of most of my extra cans before moving. Read half a book (lol). In the sun enough to get some color.
What is left;
Some chemistry perhaps.
Get my stuff unpacked in 2 weeks so I can draw and start material-intensive projects.
Find new graffiti spots in my new town!
Read up on plant biology – acquaint myself with my new lab mates at grad school.
Yeah. I feel like this is one of the most productive summers I’ve had.
@maximus39 Hard to tell, I want to make the material ace quality, and I want the site to be nice too, and I’ve got so much shit on my agenda that progress isn’t that fast since the blog isn’t my main priority. It should be up and running in the near future though, before winter.
@beniandtheuniverse It’s not about exclusion at all, it’s simply about the nature of the group. Men and women are fundamentally different, bodily and at the very core of the mind. One of the main focus points of the group is physical strength, another is linear thinking, these are areas where men excel and women don’t. Another reason for the man-only principle is efficiency, we would have to go way too broad and unspecific on certain areas (such as sexual mastery) not to mention that men and women respond differently to different kinds of input. It would be way too inefficient to handle men and women together, progress would be slower and less certain for everyone, I don’t like half measures. And on top of that, some of the values and topics are things that most women wouldn’t want. And, the man-beast on 3 planes doesn’t work for a woman, since she is a 4 plane female.
I would have loved doing this with a mixed-gender group, but that simply isn’t efficient. However some female friends of mine are starting up a female equivalent, only problem is that they’re having trouble finding interested, qualified women. But I’m sure that problem will soon be over.
My summers been good, but at the end I’ll be entering into my first year of college and find the looming date seems to be placing unnecessary stress on me. Does anyone have any helpful tips to avoid letting the looming college date ruin my summer? I know I’m predisposed to worry too much, but I don’t want to let this give me anxiety all summer.
@murph94 It’s not for everyone, it’s for people with certain ambitions, a certain desired way of being, etc. One who fits that character and wants to join must contact one of the leaders and show his bio. If he fits the criteria, the next step is to come visit one of our lairs (available in Stockholm, Berlin and St Petersburg, more locations hopefully established soon) to begin the initiation. Once the initiation is passed, he is a manimal initiate, to become a full member he must pick a mentor and begin making progress, then he can ascend to full membership once he can pass a certain test. There are more levels to climb too, if he wants. Any manimal who makes no progress, and/or does not attend enough meetings, in a certain period of time is kicked out, this includes us leaders. Additional rules include things like no drugs and no tv. May sound like tough criteria, but that’s how to separate the quality from the chaff, this group is made for a certain type of of people, we keep the focus narrow and streamlined for efficiency.
My summer’s going as decent and boring as expected. I was studying to get into a university to study psychology until recently, went to 2 exams, now I see that I’m accepted. I’m not excited at all. But that’s because of my cynical and apathetic nature. Also, I met someone who’s making my days a little more meaningful, but we’re too far away and I feel like an idiot because of this.
When I see realistically what’s going to happen in my near future is that I’m going to lead a student’s life and be surrounded by younger idiots thinking mostly about relationships and drinking, so I have to control my temper to a level of not killing them all.
Besides that, I’m making music again which is the most important thing in my life.
Ups and downs. Went to Paradiso, an electronic music festival over 12 hours long and a night before of partying where my friend almost died due to an OD on MDMA, but besides that it was fun..
Umm I’ve had a lot of boring, lazy days but it’s relaxing. September I am going to multiple concerts, music festivals, and then Yosemite so that should be fun.
@bigred, that’s awesome, I still struggle to find my own calling. What is yours, if you don’t mind saying?
@alexandriabee, it’s been going, much too quickly. Like I said, I’ve been trying to work out a bit (held back by lack of equipment) and working on my projects, as well as looking forward to concerts. Bike riding a lot, but I haven’t gone swimming yet, which is something I’d like to do. Mostly I’m trying to decide a few things, like what direction I want to take my story in as well as an rpg quest I’m doing, and what direction I want to take to find my place in the real world. It’s been clear as mud :P
Ummm…this site was the saving grace of my summer.
I love you all for existing, I love Jordan for making this site exist, and I am very thankful for the lovely and heated discussions I’ve had since joining.
I would have been incredibly miserable had I not been referred to this website.
@theskafish You don’t need equipment. Use your body weight, do isometrics, find something to hang from. That’s pretty much all you need. The fancy equipment is for when you’re already strong and want to add more bulk, in my opinion. Then you don’t even have to worry about proper form, since you will naturally already have it.
What story? And are you making an rpg or just playing one?
