As the title says, I had an incredible experience today – I ate a piece of melon. It was not incredible because of the fact that I rarely eat melon (though I do) but because as I sat down and ate that piece of melon, I thought about what it meant to eat that melon, there in that moment. Truly it is an astounding thing. To eat a melon is a miraculous feat of existence.
An event is an occurrence. An experience is our interpretation of an event. An experience is not made incredible by what is going on, but by what is being seen and felt.
Melon..Thats what you kids call it these days?
If we looked at every event in life like this, if we could get past that consistent occurrence of feeling the same about everything, when in reality each event is its own incredible experience, life, regardless of its orientation, could always be viewed as amazing.
Yes, life truly is amazing. I find that if I drop my analytical mind for a bit and simply pay attention and observe without judgement or thought, the divine nature of existence becomes so obvious and apparent that I wonder how I’ve been able to go through life without noticing it! I especially question my ability to simply assume that “today will be a bad day” when in reality, there are an infinite amount of possibilities unfolding outwards from the present moment every second, which is a thrilling and invigorating process to look forward to.
See, I know exactly what you mean. For instance, I had just got out of my car and was walking to my door, and as I looked around I was suddenly overcome by this sense of “awe”. Everything was so vibrant, fresh, new, here, now, yknow? Kind of took my breath away and made me pause for a sec. I just stood there taking everything in. After I came in and sat down though, that feeling subsided.
Its amazing what happens when you develop presence/mindfulness. Enjoying each moment for what it is instead of making judgements. Currently reading a book called “The Unfolding Now”, you might like it
As long as you’re in a healthy environment you can enjoy rape. It’s incredible because getting excited about a melon just might prevent the war in Ukraine. Healthy food prevents the risk of cancer. Or maybe it’s your mom. You never know. The usage of words sometimes just gets loose.
Do you know what is incredible? This is not sarcasm.
I too have enjoyed moments like yours. Time just seems to slip through our hands and our life passes by in a blink of an eye. But in that moment all time stops and you feel what it truly means to be alive. You are on the right track my friend. Someday I hope we all can see the beauty of existence that surrounds us.
