Sometimes I just say fuck it

Brandon Phillips (@brandonphillips) 9 years, 2 months ago

Do you ever come to the point in your life where you stop, look at all of our problems, and just say ” fuck it? I want to go live in peace with nature alone.” Where you don’t care about politics, space exploration, religion, being right or wrong, or finding a solution to problems. Just throw it all away and say ” fuck it. I want peace and solitude.” It takes stepping back, and looking at the world and all its inhabitants from a third party perspective. This is where I’m at right now, and I’m thinking this is where I want to stay. I mean, why do we feel that we have to live this way? Arguing over which religion is right or wrong or that there is no right religion at all. It’s just so absurd, to think that we have the option of being kind and accepting and considerate, yet we choose to argue. Since I see no chance of everyone coming to an agreement to disagree, I say “fuck it” and I walk away.

@brandonphillips, I feel this way all the time. That’s why I have such a hard time growing up, because the adult world seems to suggest that you have to devote the rest of your life to solving problems. I don’t care about solving problems though. I care about making my ideal self. That’s not to be confused with selfishness, it’s just that I feel that if everyone got more room in life to make their ideal selves and more time to find out what it is they really want, we’d have less conflict. In fact I think it’s kind of silly to go out trying to solve problems when you haven’t even solved your own yet.

@theskafish, Exactly. That’s something I haven’t thought about yet. If people spent more time not worrying about worldy problems and being peaceful and exploring and growing on their own many problems that they had in the first place wouldn’t exist.

I feel this all the time, and many people now do feel, and in the past have felt like this too.

Either way, I think life will sort itself out eventually, as long as the internet doesn’t become truly censored for everyone – it’s probably the first time in history that the whole world is openly connected and free to quickly discuss anything – it means people are growing fast and becoming much more knowledgeable about the world and each other; this can only be a good thing for the development of human unity. If the internet becomes truly censored, people will again be oblivious to each other and the world outside their reach; it would be a very sad day.

Have faith, maybe the changes you’d like to see will be within your lifetime. I’d argue they’re already starting. It’s a really exciting time to be alive.

@brandonphillips, fortunately for you, majority of our population thinks in many of the same ways as you.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, this is why we dont evolve. No one cares about politics, so we have douche bag leaders and politicians all over from the top to bottom(just because you dont care does not mean the corporations and pharmaceuticals dont care; they take your weakness as their strength, and fund their own politicians that will help them the most). The entire US government said ‘fuck it’ to space exploration as well. In 10 years, we made it to the moon because we wanted to, and since, we havent done shit because, well, “fuck it”. Thank god for private companies who do care and give a fuck; recently heard a story that a private company will send a manned ship to Mars in 10 years.

A lot of people say fuck it to religion, too. Probably the number one reason religions dont evolve, and treat the world like such shit. No one cares what these religions do or what they take, so they are allowed to function as their own entities/corporations. Fuck it!

So, fortunately you are not alone in feeling this way, this “fuck being right or wrong, or finding solutions to problems.” The human race is moving into an individualistic society where all its inhabitants say FUck it to more and more problems, and care more about the peace and solitude of their own people and mind. Its easy to step back and look at the world “from a third party perspective”. Its hard to be a part of it and try to fix the broken world. But Fuck it!

Luckily, a lot of good people still care.

@yoinkie, Way too serious dude. I do care a lot of times. I ponder the fuck out of things and discuss and think of solutions. But every now and then it just becomes overwhelming. It’s definitely not weakness, to find solace within my life and take a break from shit.

@brandonphillips, haha, there are those words again. “way too serious”, I cant tell you how many times Ive heard people say that to me, or “you care too much”.

But anyways, good on you that you take breaks but come back to it. Unfortunately, most of the world is like how you describe in your post, and they dont come back. And this is why the world sucks in so many ways, our ever going “fuck it” attitude, and our responses to those who question it with the “you care too much”.

@nosorozh, Hahaha.

@yoinkie, Come on, man. People are pretty much afraid, I already know if I was an astronaut I won’t risk my life, or sacrifice it for space exploration. Or not. I am not entirely sure. Nevertheless I’m sure it’s not a simple issue as saying “fuck space exploration”. It just happens slower than our imaginations.

“No one cares about politics, so we have douche bag leaders and politicians all over from the top to bottom(just because you dont care does not mean the corporations and pharmaceuticals dont care”

That is true. I don’t know if it’s ironic that the wisest people don’t concern themselves with politics or are just indirectly rebelling against them.

@beyond, your first paragraph reminded me about an ant farm I use to own. Way too much to say about that, so you inspired me to write a new post. Thanks for that.

Are they really the wisest people if they dont concern themselves with the governing body that makes and controls our rules? They are just lazy pretend smart people; they pretend to care, to show other around them on the internet, but they really dont care because they choose to rebel even though they know their stupid rebellion doesnt do shit. Occupy wall street anyone? A bunch of hippies gathering to do drugs and destroy our streets, and accomplished nothing in the end. I Respect Anonymous because they are actually doing, but the rest are just posers. Its like the Kony video. So many people cared the first two weeks because it was cool to care. the world would be such an awesome place if people actually cared, instead of just pretending to care.

@yoinkie, the world is the sum total of its components, and if the components are broken, the world will be broken too. Think about any device you have, if all the individual parts are shitty, you will have a shitty product that won’t work well. If people really got to fix themselves first, the sum total would be a healthier organism. Just get rid of all the things that drive you mad in life, and work on the things you want to be. I imagine if everyone did this there would be less stress.

@yoinkie, The hippie demonstrators are most afraid of everything, they have no idea what they’re even doing. Unfortunately there’s a lot of them here on this site so I can’t speak much about that or I’ll piss someone off just by saying that the majority of people are cowards. This is what happened in Bulgaria the last month – people gathered together in every major city to protest against the government, it started because of the unexpected unbelievable increase of the bills. A big part of my country is on the street protesting against the government. Our prime minister resigned. Not only because people were protesting. And this isn’t going to change much, because the only people that cared and did something were people with a motto “you must have no name, you must be the people” to inspire change.

there have been people who chose to live apart from society throughout time, for most of history they were revered or held in a special kind of respect, as shamans, sages, hermits and the like. Western society today takes a much more critical, fearful view of such people. perhaps because we are afraid they have somthing we do not?

I wonder if everyone who ever seriously considered this just went ahead with it, for the love of it, and not in fear of the consequences of reneging on society.. how different would our world be?

All the time, more or less every day I want to run of to the wilderness and say fuck it. The problem with that is that it doesn’t solve anything. All the problems will still exist.

@theskafish, “In fact I think it’s kind of silly to go out trying to solve problems when you haven’t even solved your own yet.”

What about people living in Dafur or Niger, living with war and famine should we just ignore their problems because we have self esteem issues.

There seems to be a lot of good philosophical wisdom regarding the self in the developed world but the problem is we are focusing our attention on ourselves and how we can be better rather than saying “what can I do to help others who have it worse”. Of course if everybody was more self aware the world would be a better place. But why should people living in the third world have to suffer while we work on making ourselves better people just because they were born in a different country.

@brandonphillips, After suckling at the teat of the capitalist borg, you are thinking of seeking solitude in nature. That`s very nice but how about working towards halting the machine before it spreads it`s lifeless corruption over the entire territory of Nietsche`s dead God?

[Hidden]
TheSkaFish (962)M (@theskafish) 9 years, 2 months ago ago

@chekovchameleon, it’s an international issue so it must be dealt with on an international scale. Those of us in developed countries should give some of our surplus to them, so they can at least be doing “just okay”. I would feel worlds better about paying taxes and fees if it went to needy people instead of politicians’ lavish lifestyles.

[Hidden]
yoinkie (1,498)C (@yoinkie) 9 years, 2 months ago ago

@theskafish, looking at it that way is probably part of the problem too. Of course we should improve ourselves in everyway that we can, after all we are the components in this machine. But to take time away from society to focus solely on yourself is selfish.

Think of it this way, through an analogy: You want to make it to deep space. You can either focus on your ship design from the confine of your home, on earth. This would probably be a better way, you have all the time you need and you can completely focus on the ship(yourself). But in this way, you lose focus of the real goal and focus far too much on your ship, trying to make it the best you can possibly make it. Touching it up, making designs, even finding others to join you on your missions. Along the way, you become complacent. “yea, ill make it to space one day. Right now, I can live life and focus on my ship more, though.”

OR, you have option number two: be flown into a space station with all the necessary parts to build a ship to send into deep space. This way, you are fully immersed in the mission at hand of making it to deep space(making the world better), and you can put almost your entire focus on it. Of course, you are still building the ship, and that is the first and most crucial part. But you are working under extreme conditions, and hence focus more on working harder and completing the task at hand. You dont become complacent, as most people do who choose to build their ships first from the comforts of their homes.

I guess im at that stage, in space building my ship, ready to go. Of course im still building my ship and learning more about it. But im more then willing to go already, and build it more along the way. Im just waiting for the rest of you, sitting at home partially working on your ship, but mostly just ignoring space(the world).

You yourself have said you have become complacent in your search for a job or career. Is what you are doing really working for you, then?

@beyond, dont even get me started on American “prostestors for a change”. Mostly just lazy hippies, who dont want to work and are looking for an easy way out. I walked around the occupy movement for many days here in Seattle, and most people were clueless as to what they wanted, other then “CHANGEEEE”. They didnt know how they wanted to go about it, and most didnt even know what the problems were except for saying “wallstreet fat cats too rich! evil corporations!”. Most of them were just getting high off drugs and doing shit all. Then came a day to riot, so they broke shit that people worked hard for and broke businesses, too. They broke my car which was parked on a downtown street. Why? Who knows. Just a lazy bunch of hippies sitting around park benches. Fuck the entire occupy movement. The protests in the rest of the world are completely different, people actually want change and know what they are fighting and why.

Here in America we just have people who dont want to work, and want more free handouts.

@yoinkie, No wonder immigrants go to US and “take people’s jobs”. Well, that wasn’t a nice thing to say, but it’s true.

E.C.F. Doyle (346) (@chekovchameleon) 9 years, 2 months ago ago

@theskafish, Millions and milions go to third world countries from governments every year but the money goes to the governments of these countries and they are all corrupt as fuck. The main issue is just this. Charity. It is a way of people paying off their guilt and think they are making a difference. Most charities are just keeping the third world on life support with food campaigns. What people need to do is say; I’m not going to buy a big flash car or sweatshop clothes or a pair of jeans that costs 100 quid until the rest of the world is given the same chance I have. It isn’t an issues for governments to solve. It is a human issue and it is up to every individual to adjust their lifestyle to help out our fellow man.

@beyond, Its because most immigrants work harder then the typical American. Its funny, immigrants coming to this country understand the American dream far better then any American. Immigrants understand that they have the oppurtunity to do anything and succeed in ANYTHING in this country if they are willing to work hard enough for it. This is the greatest country in the world for providing you with an equal shot at success. My parents came to this country with $500 in their pocket, no job, no hope. Both were well educated and willing to work Hard. America provided them oppurtunities, and now they own their own businesses and live a wonderful and relaxed lifestyle.

But the typical American feels they are owed something just because. As a foreigner, you must get the feeling that America is under total collapse the way most people(including people on this site) talk about it. How dire they make everything seem, and how corrupt every corporation they make out to appear. This isnt true at all, life here is actually beautiful. But many Americans are lazy,so they lay their own personal blames on the media, the government, and corporations. Because its easier to do that then take responsibility for their own lazy attitudes and ineptness at willing to learn and adapt and work harder then the man next to them.

In America, if you are willing to learn and work harder then the man to your right and your left; you WILL not fail. Can you say that in other countries? How many? I know so many countries where you can work harder then anyone in the entire city and still be confined to a dead end job with no future. Thats the reality of the world, and So many Americans dont understand it.

Instead, they sit in parks, smoke weed, and complain about the 99%. On a tuesday, at 2pm, while they should actually be working or looking for work.

America, as an idea and a Country is one of the greatest creations of human History. Americans, as a people however…are not.
