Sometimes It sucks not believing in a higher power

Sam (@zeroknowledge) 9 years, 2 months ago

Sometimes it sucks to believe in no higher power. For example, today something could happen, and I want it to happen sooo badly. But to who does a godless man pray to? I certainly can’t “pray”, and believing in luck is a bit sketchy. What to do? I can’t pray to god, or luck. Can I hope for some existential Karma to work in my favor?
No that would be silly from my perspective. Not everyone gets what they want. What about the universe? I see many parallels to god,but no I can’t even pray to the universe. Now I see why people are so susceptible to religion. It’s so attractive to believe in something higher than yourself that will sometimes roll the “dice” in your favor if you pray to him/her(it?). Eh….Sucks sometimes not believing in god or any sort of higher force……
Ignorance Is bliss.

You don’t have to pray to anyone or any god. You can just put your intent out into the universe and allow it to manifest itself.

I know that may sound like new-age hippy talk, but it’s true. Every thought is an actual thing. Thoughts are things, they exist just as much as anything else in the universe. And when you put that thought out into the universe, it has an impact on your life whether you’re aware of it or not. Your thoughts literally create your reality. So rather than praying to a god, you can be your own god. You can create your own life the way you want it. It takes a while to learn the truth of this, but once you do, you get a taste of true freedom and happiness.

@zeroknowledge,

Pray to the universe as a whole. Send certain vibes or energies out to the universe. This is what I do. I don’t believe in a divine entity such as the Christian God (I was raised Catholic). By praying to the universe, I focus on my dreams. It’s as if saying them to myself, or the universe, I make them official. Are you aware of synchronicity? Or the law of attraction? If so, any views on them?

@zeroknowledge,

“I can’t even pray to the universe.”
Sorry, I somehow missed that point. Why can’t you? Although you’re part of the universe, is the entire universe not a higher power than you?

@chodebalm, I like the idea ” Your thoughts literally create your reality. So rather than praying to a god, you can be your own god. You can create your own life the way you want it. It takes a while to learn the truth of this, but once you do, you get a taste of true freedom and happiness.” It’s an interesting manifesto I would love to live by. Great food for thought, It’s a very interesting idea.

@cosmicd46
, I’ve considered praying to the universe, I’ve never thought about the vibes or energies, I’m going to research it some more. I too was raised a christian catholic, and never really believed in the idea of the christian god.

Thank you guys, I’m going to research synchronicity and the laws of attraction. I’m going to try to send out more positive vibes to the universe, because if one thing’s for certain is that the universe is real.

@cosmicd46, Yes true, but sometimes I couldn’t because of the parallels between it and god, I don’t want to revert to the old christian god. for example Pray to the universe like praying to a god, although it is a higher power, the universe doesn’t listen to distinct prayers of people. Also I like the idea of sending out vibes and the laws of attraction those really resonate with me to some extent.

@zeroknowledge,

“if one thing’s for certain is that the universe is real.”
Indeed it is. And matter and energy are interchangeable. There are waves of energy flowing through and from everything in existence. I believe each individual being, thought and action has its own unique energy/wavelength. When someone feels a strong connection to another person or even senses someone looking at them in the distance I believe it’s their respective energies intertwining in a favorable way.

There’ve been discussions on synchronicity and the law of attraction before on HE so I won’t elaborate too much on them. Synchronicity, as defined by Google, is the simultaneous occurrence of events that appear significantly related but have no discernible causal connection. In other words, meaningful coincidences. I believe we can give rise to such events by emitting particular, usually positive, energies. By way of thinking certain things or meditating, for instance. It’s related to the law of attraction which is essentially the idea that like begets like or like energies are attracted to one another/give rise to one another.

I’d recommend a read of the said past discussions (just use the search option at the top of the page).

@zeroknowledge, If you want something too much, you will not get it. You need to let go of control in order to gain it.

Hmm, what to say. What is your definition of God anyway? Do you believe in love? Call love God and you will believe in God, that simple.

Pray to whatever gives you strength, and whatever you think is beneficial for you. Do not label or do not let it be influenced by other people. Do what you feel is right, because it feels right, not because you are supposed to.

@zeroknowledge,

How many faiths have you explored? Have you explored Buddhism?

Not your cup of tea, that’s fine.

Would you say that you are looking for hope? Or maybe some purpose? What do you strive for?

Prayer is a very touchy subject so I wish to be polite.

@zeroknowledge,

As I said, I believe each thought has a unique energy or wavelength. So by thinking those thoughts, wishing for them, praying about them one creates that energy and sends it out into the universe. Then, in line with the law of attraction, the wish or desire is likely to be attained. At least that’s my belief and it’s worked for me. To clarify, I don’t wish to be a billionaire or to become the president. I focus on the things that I see as being realistic and probable.

“the universe doesn’t listen to distinct prayers of people.”
Do you not think your unconscious mind would listen to your prayers/desires and then help you obtain them? And by help I mean influence your choices/actions in line with your desires.

@zeroknowledge I haven’t read any other comments so I don’t know if someone has already said this. But if you don’t believe in a higher power than isn’t it your responisblity to make it happen? I think its silly even for people that believe in God to expect things to be donefor them, iI would imagine God helps those who try to help themselves, but like I said if there’s no God then its up to you right?

Maybe you don’t need a God to pray to, because you contain way more God than all the religions in the world.

Make happen what you want to happen and if you can’t do it, then maybe it wasn’t that important in the first place.
Your real power of your inner God is not to make things happen but to create your inner heaven. Making things happen will follow.

@zeroknowledge, Lol its a conscious decision to realize a diety or god…

You don’t know either way, and never will, so why the hell would you choose the depressing option.

Its stupid to be an atheist if you ask me..

Always remember that the universe can either work against you, or it can work for you. It all depends on YOUR attitude. Only when you are prepared enough will opportunities appear. Opportunity surrounds you in every direction, but this will not be so until you allow yourself to see them. You must trust yourself and the universe. Then these troubles will never come to mind. Feeling good about yourself and seeing yourself as whole, with nothing missing in your life, will greatly enrich your relationship with the universe. Whenever you feel like “praying” it is because you have lost sight of your place in the world. Start doing things that you love, and spending time with people that support that. It is here that you will find bliss with nothing missing.

I will give you an example:

My grandmother passed last week. I spent the last week and a half with my family. The majority of my family is religious. They believe that she is in “a better place.” Some would say that this experience probably prompted me to become religious simply because it is easy, as you say, to want to have that reassurance. However, in their mourning, I have found happiness. Feeling bad never does anything for anyone. All it does is make you feel bad. So why feel bad when you can feel good? I choose to feel good. And because I feel good, it has helped my grandfather feel good. And my mother. Nobody knows what happens when we die, but why feel bad about it when you can feel good? It’s a choice. So I suggest to you that you make a choice.

If you keep thinking that something is missing in your life, then something will always be missing. If you believe that you are whole, then abundance will come your way. What you put into the universe is what it will give back.

@chodebalm, what you said is so god damn true, (law of attraction and law of vibration). but even if you dont pray to a higher being its almost naive not to believe that 1 exist.

[Hidden]
emptyminded (68) (@thoughtless) 9 years, 2 months ago ago

@zeroknowledge, i believe in a higher power but 1 that does not need any communication what so ever, so you dont have to pray. If i know nothing of the nature of the singularity the 1 thing i do know is that he is silent (in my opinion). I still try to talk to him tho, but with no verbal response, after all what language would he speak? you think and respond in your native language or an acquired language. but then again maybe he is responding in the language of the uniiverse.

Why does that suck? Whether or not you believe in god does not change whether or not god exists. I’m sure you have your reasons for not believing in god. And either he answers prayers or he doesn’t. I take comfort in knowing that because I don’t believe in god, I don’t have to rely on anything or anybody but myself to bring about change. I would rather utilize responsibility than resort to wishful thinking. Think of it as an advantage. Take credit for your own success.
