"The atoms in your body are 99.999999999999999% empty space"

Found this quote on this site, thought it deserved it’s own discussion though

“Before you judge others or claim any absolute truth, consider that you can see less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum and hear less than 1% of the acoustic spectrum. As you read this, you are traveling at 220 kilometres per second across the galaxy. 90% of the cells in your body carry their own microbial DNA and are not “you”. The atoms in your body are 99.9999999999999999% empty space and none of them are the ones you were born with, but they all originated in the belly of a star. Human beings have 46 chromosomes, 2 less than the common potato. The existence of the rainbow depends on the conical photoreceptors in your eyes; to animals without cones, the rainbow does not exist. So you don’t just look at a rainbow, you create it. This is pretty amazing, especially considering that all the beautiful colours you see represent less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum.” – Niel DeGrasse Tyson

Thoughts? This one goes out to all those absolute truthers :P

@tlrlittle, Ive seen this quote before. Its pretty magnificent. It kind of gos to show that we really don’t know the ‘ultimate truth’, because it is possible that we actually cat see it (literally). Also makes you wonder what we cannot see physically!

I was reading a book time ago, and it pains me to this day that I cannot find this book. But it was about physics, psychology and many things alike. There was a test did on hypnosis that was insane. I’ll try to sum it up quickly, because I don’t have much time.

There was a daughter and father and they agreed to this test. They brought them into a room (in a psychologist’s building is where they were working) and had the father sit down. He was asked to point out to where his daughter was in the room, about 5 or 6 feet in front of him. They put the father under hypnosis and basically told him that we would not be able to SEE, FEEL or HEAR his daughter. He was not to be able to visually or sensationally acknowledge she was in the room. When he awoke he was asked to read the time on a hand watch that was behind his daughters back, he said that he could not do that because his daughter was in the room (although she had not moved). Than they asked if he saw a watch in front of him, he said yes, they asked him to read the time, and he read the appropriate time on the pocket watch (that his daughter was holding behind her back). They put him back under and told him would be able to see her again and it would be as before. He was awakened and he could see her in the room.

Okay, besides the moral issues with this – THE FUCK – They were able to make him see through his own daughter, an other human being. Is this due to the power of the mind? or the fact that we can control what we see, we are all just matter and atoms right, we haven’t been exposed to the idea of anything else other than what we see now? Or maybe this is just something way beyond any of that!

Non the less, imagine all the things we really are not seeing!?

And on a more conspiracist note, What do you think the media is making us unable to see! O.o

@tlrlittle, Ah dude what a great quote. @mentalkink, That is an awesome story too.

People have no idea how big an impact thought has on things. I mean, it’s kind of huge. Why are people so quick to brush off the likes of hypnotism and placebos? I honestly don’t get it.

@tlrlittle, Ask Rick Strassman about the other 99% of the spectrum.

@tlrlittle, I love this quote. It acts like a trigger for me, immediately throwing me back into a deeper awareness / consciousness, and a relaxing smile appears in me. Thanks!

ya it is great to realize that we dont really exist all that much.
and what does exist of us is about like a potatoe. even potatoes are smarter than we are!!
haha what a joke/ mankind! what an illusion and we all believe in this fairy story!

I think it’s just so incredible that we are just atoms, trying to understand atoms.

@mentalkink, Sorry, but I’m quite skeptical about that. Maybe he just had an idea of the time. Was this a published study, or just an experience they wrote in a book? Although we are mainly empty space, there’s still a reason you can’t see through stuff.

@ballsackturtles23, Doesn’t look like he did any research on the electromagnetic or the acoustic spectrum, I don’t see the connection here.
