The Backster Effect

Anyone here ever heard of the Backster Effect? I recently purchased an audiobook of The Source Field by David Wilcock which has around 19 hours of informational audio. I just finished the first chapter which covered the Backter Effect, Astral Projection, Hypnotism, and others alike.

Two things really caught my attention here. One, is that Backster studied the effect of thought and the reaction that plants allegedly had to it. He would hook up a polygraph test to the leaf of a plant and even with the thought of harming it, it would spike just as if it was a human being put under massive stress or potential harm. This was repeated many times and would also work with the thought of love towards it.

The second thing that really caught my attention during the first chapter was Backster’s experiment with living human cells. Backster would have someone swish water around in their mouth, spit into a bowl, and then would somehow (can’t remember exactly) allow these cells to live for up to 12 hours, in which he would record results like the plant previously mentioned. The experiment used in the book was with Dr. Brian O’Leary from Princeton University. O’Leary apparently had a fight with a woman while this experiment was going on. O’Leary then left for the San Francisco airport and was 300miles away from his cells in the lab. Both Backster and O’Leary had synchronized watches the entire time. O’Leary kept an active log of events that would cause him stress, such as missing a turn onto the airport, nearly missing flight, and many others. Later, when comparisons were made, there was a good correlation between his chart and his cells chart 300 miles away. His own mind was sending waves of information that was being picked up by these cells miles and miles away. The effect works just as well in a shielded room, meaning it is not electromagnetic.

This was mind-blowing to me and really solidifed my thoughts and experiences I have had that have led me to believe that the universe, nature, and everything is inherently connected. As above, so below.

I suggest everyone gets this book or audiobook so you can clean, ride a bike, or do whatever while listening.

MYTHERBUSTERS – MYTH BUSTED! They did this, and .. well under their conditions nothing happened.

That would really suck though. I would have to kill myself as I’d respect plants too much to eat them at that point.

@ijesuschrist, Which episode? Were the intentions real? Everything has to be real, no acting.

@ijesuschrist, Apparently “praying” or thanking the plants/your food before you eat is a very ancient custom. It is to ease the plant into its eventual death haha

Yeah they hooked the plants up to electrodes, then both in the room with the plant and outside the room imagined with their little hearts destroying the plant intently.

No electrical signals beyond the normal.

@ijesuschrist, Doesn’t break it for me. Mythbusters is still just a tv show to me.

Mythbusters is a cool show fersher.. but I wouldn’t have faith in their ability to test something like that in a completely controlled setting with all the hustle of “tv show making” going on. And not that they’re not good scientists, but they’re pretty comical & reality-tv-ish with the way they run things. That’s just my opinion though. So, doesn’t break it for me either. Separation’s just an illusion imo. Thanks for the suggestion Eric!

@emily, Ah thank you Emily! Perhaps one day I’ll run the test myself.
