The clouds and the sky

One day I looked at the sky covered in clouds and I had a sudden realization. The clouds in the sky make the world look gloomy, but the sunshine always peeks through wherever the clouds fail to cover. Somehow it reminded me of myself but I couldn’t complete the phrase until today.
Pissed off in my own shroud of darkness; I chose to shut everyone and everything out because I was consumed by my own motives of isolation, anger, and egocentric thoughts. After the damage of the day was done my wonderful girlfriend gave me a verbal reality check to inform me of the flaws of my thinking and reactions. After getting home and throwing my keys and jacket in the driveway I walked down my street to do my own little rendition of Hot Rod Punch dancing in the forest. A couple yards into this I realized my sense of desperation to further separate myself from this world that pissed me off so much.
I felt suffocated in my own self loathing and anger but at the same time I welcomed it and could only entertain thoughts of malice and belligerence. I finally stopped walking and had a moment of silence to calm myself. It wasn’t until I decided to walk back that I finished my thought instantaneously.
From where we stand the clouds cover the sky and cast darkness onto our earth. But even though the clouds appear to be the victor, once they pass the permanence of the sky still remains shining bright and life goes on. The crazy part is that the clouds need the sky to create their darkness. If you move above those clouds you see that the sky is still there shining bright. It struck home to me because I realized that our feelings of hate, anger, depression, or whatever only go as far as we allow them. Those feelings need us to manifest into reality. So in this story we are the sky, our feelings and emotions are the clouds. They are a part of the sky but they are not the sky. Some clouds compliment the sky and elaborate its beauty while others attempt to hide the beauty. The sky doesn’t fight these clouds or hide from them as we attempt with our darker feelings, as I was doing and throwing myself deeper into the hole by adding the frustration of not being able to control myself. Instead it allows them to pass and serve their purpose only to return to its beauty after the storm.

I’m sure this isn’t a new thought, maybe I was triggered by some repressed thought from something i’ve read or heard. but I feel like this is sort of a breakthrough for me to finally understand that we are not our thoughts.

@angzilla, ”…It struck home to me because I realized that our feelings of hate, anger, depression, or whatever only go as far as we allow them. Those feelings need us to manifest into reality….” For you to come to that realization and understanding is most definetly a step in the right direction towards mastering oneself. Being aware and concious is the first step, its the next step that is the tricky part, haha, putting that awareness and knowledge into action.

If we can learn to control our negative energy and feelings of hate, anger, jealousy, greed, envy and so on. We can really change in the world. Ghandi stated that we need to be the change, we want to see in this world, and I absolutely believe that. If we only looked inside, we would see the infinite power that lies within us all. And if we begin to practise this and put it into action, everything else around us would automaticly begin to change and we would not allow all of evil that is happening on a daily around the world.
