One of the most beautiful songs I have heard lately is a remix of the theme song from Inception. Here’s a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se5NBKNcsy4

A while ago I was on Pandora and I stumbled upon this artist, Olafur Arnalds. The simplicity, yet the elegance and purity of his music really got me hooked. Whenever I listen to him, I feel like I’m loved… maybe not by any person, but by the cosmos. I feel like all of my faults are forgiven. Here’s a song by him.

It just moves me so much and I thought I’d share. HEthens, what songs or artists have touched your souls? It doesn’t matter what genre, as long as it speaks to you on a level that feels above your very existence. Please share <3

I really love Ravi Shankar. I’m a big fan of George Harrison as a human being and he was very good friends with Mr. Shankar, which then got me listening. Indian classical music is so very deep and spiritual, you can really lose yourself and become a completely different being when you listen to one of his ragas (pro tip: burn some incense as well!). He’s Norah Jones’ father too, a little left field but true.

On a philosophical level, I’ve always enjoyed the great song writers of the protest era. Naturally starting with some early Bob Dylan, songs like “Gates of Eden”, “It’s All Over Now Baby Blue” and “Talkin’ World War Three Blues”, really epic songs and full of hidden meaning.

At the moment, I’m digging Townes Van Zandt. The guy was an absolute genius when it came to writing about human emotion. I recommend the songs “Nothin'” and “Rake”, he can really send shivers up your spine when you listen to the words.

I am so happy you made this post.
Some of these are going to be more fast paced but I was overwhelmed by the beauty of these songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh4brL7PC2E Afterglow – Phaeleh ft Soundmouse
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqYCwK4BZK0 Rain – Blackmill
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgAoCDzsslY River – Civil Twilight
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O5kflDCWN4 Human – Civil Twilight (the lyrics completely destroyed me. In a good way, of course. So beautiful.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9aCz9yeUGE 21 Gun Salute – Half Moon Run
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0ZkjhuBsYs Malika – Hiatus Kaiyote
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG9VhC0hiTg Never Meant – American Football
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaG14JY5p1c Plain (Beautiful Chill Mix) – Zoegirl (grew up listening to this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R77d7B9HBiA Double Helix – Sithu Aye
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YCFXeqI38tA Skylight – Widek
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjs10i92F8U Pala – Friendly Fires
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClQcUyhoxTg Don’t Fear The Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rNx9_yBDVQ Footsteps In the Dark – The Isley Brothers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOdNMwTNNhA Loft Music – The Weeknd
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObL3L6MRvN4 Message In a Bottle – The Police
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFAoiMz3pcU Gap – The Kooks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfEGX0rNOvA Too Deep For The Intro – J. Cole
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4wC_JCsiME Adorn – Miguel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khNjK5MRbew Heaven (Myon Remix) – Jess
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GguaYNTuJkc The Mixed Tape – Jack’s Mannequin
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdQFDKB0gig All New Materials – Periphery
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGyPwkfmk4g Racecar – Periphery (This song is about 15min long, Don’t listen to it unless you can listen to ALL of it in its entirety.)

I will say that the fact that I sing/play guitar has a lot to do with why I chose some of these songs. Knowing how hard it is to do certain things vocally or with the guitar and seeing these artists execute it with such ease definitely made an effect on me.

Sorry for this list being ridiculously long.

*****in no particular order*****
Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavillion
Ghostland Observatory – Delete.Delete.I.Eat.Meat/ Paparazzi Lightning (Silver City and Sad Sad City are good places to start if you’ve never heard of this extraordinary duo from Austin, but these albums are life-changingly fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend seeing them live if given the chance)
Neon Indian- Psychic Chasms
Wolf Parade- Expo 86
Phantogram- Eyelid Movies/Nightlife
Jimi Hendrix Experience- Electric Ladyland
Bloc Party- Silent Alarm
Led Zeppelin- Houses of the Holly
