The Golden Ratio

Alex (@hollowinfinity)9 years, 3 months ago

What are all of your thoughts on the golden ratio? PHI? and its relation to the Fibonacci sequence?

http://www.goldennumber.net/

It’s amazing how often this number comes up in our world. I’ve mentioned somewhere on here before about how I enjoy math theory.
I’m also spiritual, and I don’t hold my theories back because of modern common sense, or how ridiculous it sounds sometimes. :P
So, I’d like to suggest maybe Jesus = PHI, or 1.618…
PHI is like a perfect number, we look at that number as beauty, and for symmetry. It’s also everywhere. The great thing about this number though, its you can’t ever reach it. It goes on, and on to infinity, but at the same time, its essentially ‘defined’

Where it gets interesting is whats the opposite of perfection? Whats the opposite of jesus? Evil? Maybe Satan? Imperfection?
6x6x6=216 The Cosine of 216= -0.8090 which is "AntiPhi"
The Sin of 666= the same thing, antiphi.
Antiphi=1/2 of negative phi.

Also 666 degrees is 54 degrees short of a second circle. Dividing a circle (360) by 54 degrees gives you 6.66..
The other side of a 54 degree angle in a right triangle is 36 degrees.
36 divided by 54 = .666..

Obviously, before anyone jumps on me for this, its just connections. Interesting ones I think. The whole aspect with jesus and satan and its relation to this number is for discussion, please don’t take it seriously if you don’t want to, I refuse to argue about it. :)

But still, I want to know your thoughts on the number phi itself.

I’m surprised no one wanted to talk about the golden ratio. xD

Phi is my homie. The whole number system/geometry together just blows my mind.

Interesting but 6.66 and 666 are very different numbers

@vincent. Yes, but I think even the subtle connection is pretty stellar.

@alex. It seems everyone on here that is named Alex kind of in a way thinks similar to me. haha, I’ve been a member for a couple days and I already have like 3 friends named Alex. But yes, Phi is just extraordinary. I wonder why its not like common knowledge, mentioned in school at all, or anything.

This video = awesome for anyone who knows what PHI is.

@alex I know exactly what you mean haha.
I’ve seen that video a couple times already, I’ve looked up phi and the golden ratio before. It’s a pretty awesome video. Yeah i wish it was mentioned in my geometry class. Half of my knowledge has to be from the internet instead of school. And most of the important knowledge haha. Anyway yeah the golden ratio is very fascinating. And all the different ways it is found in nature/physics.

Laws of physics are based upon math. So well yeah it’s no really that strange. You can find connections between most nu,bers. You just have to look hard enough.

Th enumbers doesn’t really matter that much to me. I like the 0-1 thing more. Nothing -> Infinity. Heck of a lot more heavy brain work there.

Alex (551) (@hollowinfinity) 9 years, 3 months ago ago

Oh I completely agree. Even the number 0 itself is mind blowing. I still find it all strange though! It’s so bizarre to find those connections everywhere, and even more bizarre to realize that most people don’t even see the connections. To find this one number that goes on infinitely in basically anything just makes me want to step back for a really long time and be like “wow” because, I really don’t know what else to say other than, “wow”

There are only two numbers. Infinity or nothing. =) Everything else crumbles.

^ I agree good sir. Every other number is a way in which we abstract and fragment the world.

Hey, non-cat alex. lol. Could you tell me what you think of the number 711? and 117? It has literally FOLLOWED me since 4th grade.
its creeped me out for years. I’ve had my own ideas about the number, but i’d like to see what you think of it :)

oo yea I forgot to mention in the bible it says that nature is proof of gods existence.

My thoughts are that it doesn’t mean shit. You asked!

[Hidden]
Rob Goughnour (9) (@thegouj) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@Sasho so in your opinion the laws of physics are shit too? They are both mathematics related to reality, if you accept one you must accept the other.

Acceptance of science is one thing. Fanatic beliefs another. I mean who gives a shit about the number 666 ?

@Sasho Metalheads.

I wonder if these magic numbers still apply to other number system like the binary, hexidecimal, 6 base, and 12 base systems.

@alex Not a big fan of numbers. But that is one of the most visually-stunning videos I’ve ever seen.

In regards to the 666/devil number. I remember reading that it was mistranslated and the true number is 616,

[Hidden]
Alex (551) (@hollowinfinity) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@Sasho, if you believe such, then why?

[Hidden]
Anonymous (2,654) (@) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@alex about the 666? I’ve read from several sources that it was invented to cause fear amongst Christians by the Muslims, then distorted to believe it was about Satan, then probably another mistranslated shit, so people could be controlled with fear. It was when different cultures wanted to have only one religion and one God almighty… Superstition is always a big part of a life of an idiot. It’s like the word love. No one would have felt love if the word never existed. Anyway… I like watching movies and reading books about this kind of shit to see how fucked up people are. There was a game called Clive Barker’s Jericho, where literally, all hell breaks loose and the main characters (called Jericho) were some kind of occult soldiers. One of them believed in the golden ratio and it didn’t work against the fucking demons! It’s probably the most disgusting game I have ever played, so I don’t recommend it to the faint-hearted.

This strikes me as complete bullshit frankly. It’s just trying too hard to find connections in the wrong places. Your analysis in the first post reminds me of Cartman connecting everything to 9/11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2OpKaI8yHw

@ Sisyphus – it is fine if you don’t agree with the connections drawn in this post- I don’t either- but comparing someone else’s thoughts to cases of idiocy on South Park is a bit of a low blow. Not cool in my opinion.

Maybe a more helpful post on your part would be to point out more details on why you think it is bullshit. Because that would be interesting and provide more food for debate.

Sisyphus (48) (@sisyphus) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@kate it was simply a means of showing the ridiculousness of the original post. While there is a lot of idiocy in South Park, it’s genre is satire and it’s damn good at what it does. The post reminded me of the clip because of the blind connections of numbers.

If people can’t take things like this jokingly, that’s a flaw in their character and not my problem.

I stated my opinion and why I think that. That was all that was asked of me.

[Hidden]
Alex (551) (@hollowinfinity) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

What ridiculousness? As I stated in the OP, the whole 666 thing is a stretch, but I found it interesting so I included. 2nd, I didn’t make up PHI. You didn’t even say anything about phi or the Fibonacci sequence, which WAS THE OP
