The power of now

Do you have a little voice in your head that never stops? That judges, takes things personally, makes assumptions and so on? Does it make you happy? Or do you want it to stop? Well, the good news is, everyone has this little voice. This voice is your ego. It isn’t truly you. The next good news is that you can stop the little voice, by being aware of it, watching it, listening to it silently. It’s important not to judge the voice, because then you are just letting your mind take over and bring you back into unconsciousness. Once you are aware of the voice, just listen, and eventually you will have the power to stop it because you will realize that this voice isn’t you. It isn’t who you truly are. Bring your awareness into the now, and see the world with new eyes.

Well, Ego is truly you, as it is intrinsically part of your being. Awareness of Ego and still space between thought form, is good though, yes.

@mike Ego is not who you truly are, it is like a parasite that lives inside of us. If we feed it and say it can be a part of us it will be. Deep down it has nothing to do with us and who we truly are at heart. No one should LET the ego be a part of them.

@philphilphil1, Nothing wrong with the ego, it’s the attachment to it that is the problem.

@splashartist unfortunately there’s sooo many things wrong with the ego.. but yes attachment to anything is non-beneficial unless you can detach whenever you want or have to… What is the ego to you? What do you think it controls and where do you think it comes from??

Cool! I have read it once, great book. I’m reading the one that talks of a “New Consciousness” (I don’t know the name in English), Eckhart is awesome.

@philphilphil1, By definition: the ā€œIā€ or self of any person; a person as thinking, feeling, and willing, and distinguishing itself from the selves of others and from objects of its thought.

There’s nothing wrong with the ego. I have to speak to YOU like this. This is the ego. “I have to go to the store” < Ego. Nothing wrong whatsoever with it. The problem is when you follow the ego and believe every thought that comes up as it is 100% you instead of seeing it for what it is. This is the delusional mind, drawing identity from the ego instead of using it as a tool which is actually what it's for. In practical use the ego is required for human interaction.

But then again, really I have no idea what I'm talking about so take my words lightly. Cheers! :)

The ego is the residual effect of past life experiences so in a way it is you because it is what has really happened to you and how you base present and future relationships. Understanding how it works by breaking it down and really knowing the mechanisms is the true enlightenment that Buddha and Jesus talk about. Living in the present and becoming fully aware of your surroundings and the egoistic thoughts is the best way to do this, just become aware of the decisions you make and the thought processes you have.

@splashartist haha it’s only the part when u say ego is not bad that gets me.The ego bases itself on individual existence, it’s that part which believes it is the human being, and believes it must fight for itself in the world, is ultimately unaware and unconscious of its own true nature. The ego is often associated with mind and the sense of time, which compulsively thinks in order to be assured of its future existence, rather than simply knowing its own self and the present. So if you want to call this a part of you that for one TO ME is your ego speaking because you or who ever is afraid to live happy and I the present. @biga69 the past is only a memory trace, it is no longer who we are but it is who we were in the passed NOW. We were, are, and always will be in the now.
