Truth

What is Truth?

What is it to an individual? (Perceived Truth)

Does it exist Universally?

Can you explain the relationship between the two?

@wilhelm,

truth
/tro═×oTH/

The quality or state of being true: “the truth of her accusation”.
That which is true or in accordance with fact or reality: “tell me the truth”.
Synonyms
sooth – verity – reality – fact – veracity – fidelity

God you’d think it’s hard to google but that took me 20seconds.

@xavv,

It a question of objective and subjective reality, not definition.

The fact that people think beer is good is all fine and dandy, but it is not a shared truth.

I should rephrase or redefine my inquiry then:

Is universal truth realistic? How does one align their morals with “Truth” if it is a personal experience that is ever changing?

@wilhelm, truth is subjective if viewed from an individual. Remove the individual and the truth is absolute.

The Universe expands every second. Perhaps truth is still being figured out.
All I know, is that our senses are here to help us survive, not to lead us to any truth. Anything stated with words cannot be an absolute truth.

only idiots put definitions of words or concepts, which are in question.. @xavv

in the struggle for freedom truth is the only weapon we possess.. it highly depends on what you consider true Wilhelm..

i dont accept anything “told” to me upon initial inspection.. you must first ask the question of what your looking for.. do you want the gritty scary life threatening truth, or do you want the sugar coated truth that will make your little security blanket more cozy? truth is a weapon for us to use and it has been hidden from us for centuries.. its been erased and scratched off walls, and eroded from history by the same like minded individuals who govern and run this country and planet now.. universal truths, gravity is faster than light, every chemical, element and material known to man exists within man to create man.. our solar system in 2billion years will collide with the andromada solar system and cause a black hole to suck use both into nothingness.. truth.. thats up to you.. we are force fed alot in our society through numerous means,propaganda agendas distributed through media music politics tv, fashion.. but this is all an illusion. this is control.. this is truth to some in their perspectives.. not all are right, or wrong.. perception is the key ingredient.. perception changes everything.. the poverty stricken vagabond who steals for food to stay alive.. is it theft, or survival? is it wrong to steel so that you can avoid death of starvation..?? whats the truth? in this case yes, its okay to steel for survival..in the mind set of the starving theif.. they are going to die without food.. thats the truth.. crossing a social or legal barrier to live, isnt wrong.. yet those who own the food being stolen only see that the truth comes down to its wrong to steel , and therefor your guilty.. thats their perception.. i can sing all day on how its TRUE that our government assisted and allowed the events of 9-11 to take place, its a matter of perception to choose wether you believe what i say or to disbelieve the notion.. i can load you down with evidence point after evidence point.. and most shy away and say its made up.. but its not the truth is there in front of you, they just changed your perception to think differently..

@splashartist,

If I take truth to be that of what the society accepts as truth, then I can’t justify putting my morality behind truth. I can accept humanity’s truth’s, but they often don’t align with the good of all life and its evolution.

Would it be correct to say then, morality can not be based on perceived truths by anyone or anything?

If that is the case, what should an individual, in the sense of one consciousness, base their morality off of?

@wilhelm
As someone stated before, words tend to be insufficient when talking about the bigger picture.

Truth is actually just an idea… like Existence. Allow me to explain.
We say “reality” exists, but we have nothing to compare it to, so defining it is impossible. If there is no “non-reality”, why do we call this “reality”? Reality as opposed to…?

We can say the same thing about truth. Lies are just the Truth from a different perspective, it’s all subjective. Even things considered absolutely factual could be seen differently through other eyes. The the speed of light is X Mph, but imagine a creature that does not experience the dimension of time calling you a liar when you tell them this. According to your perspective, it is a fact. But in the alien’s eyes, that couldn’t possibly be so.

Ultimately, everything that exists is The Truth, and since there are no “non-existent” things, we have nothing to really compare Truth with. The Truth is everything and nothing.

@robek, So how does one formulate allegiance to something that is both everything and nothing? How can we measure right from wrong or measure anything for that matter if all base Ideas are subjective?

[Hidden]
Paul (16) (@robek) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@wilhelm, It sounds like your are trying to find a bedrock to rest on, a sort of Moral Constant.

The question you are now asking is one many many people have asked before you. Unfortunately right and wrong are just ideas, and provide no safe haven. So Create your own ethos, and live by that. For example, forgive everyone’s wrong doings, no matter how heinous, because truly there is no good or evil to judge anyone by.

Whatever you choose to align with, just remember it is neither right nor wrong. I guess just do what makes you happy.

Paul (16) (@robek) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@wilhelm,
And as for measuring things… We can still do this because our humanly perspective is based on categorizing things, so we perceive things as different from each other. Light is not dark, fast is not slow, this is not that….etc. But following the same logic, isn’t measuring things the same as not measuring them, since it’s all relative and subjective?

@wilhelm, Truth is unobstructed reflection of objective, undeniable reality. All truth is objective.

[Hidden]
Nick (554) (@splashartist) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@wilhelm, A society is a group of individuals. This is still subjective. If you are taking truth from this then there is still an I that is taking the truth no? This is still a subjective view regardless if the truth was taken from something other then the individual itself. The individual is the illusion of the mind. The ultimate act of separateness.

@the805nomad,
why is truth the only weapon we have?
why is it a weapon?
what about wisdom, compassion and chance?
these are things we must cultivate, practice and embrace.

hot and cold, truth and lies these are facts in our reaction we learn and grow.

@wilhelm, I think the ultimate truth is the optimal benefit and whatever leads to it, even if a flagrant lie is needed. Truth is a disposable word and it is not the means to attaining anything special. The morality of truth is the biggest lie we have been told.

dr. hamsa (42) (@s7221919) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@rickyferdon, Our understanding of reality is subjective. Truth is what we accept as the laws of reality, given enough evidence or reason to believe.

@peractopaulo, Why would you want a weapon?

the805nomad (10) (@the805nomad) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@peractopaulo, as far as chance as a weapon.. id say thats an unknown variable we can never account for.. so never depend upon it.. let it randomly do its thing.. within truths over time we acquire wisdom which we use to base our actions and judgements.. compassion my friend only roots seeds of possible weakness and opens oneself too much to be exploited.. for instance.. i cant stand nor do i believe in our government, the reptiles who run it, or the media that pushes its agenda.. ive tried to be compassionate and respect their views on us, but unfortunately the system doesnt care what we feel or think, its turned its back on us, they the 1% that run this country dont listen to nor care for the 99% who work the mechanisms of this country… our president is already purchased and the seat to the white house auctioned for.. we cant be compassionate about a federal reserve made up of five families who own the banking institution that runs and determines where our countries interests lie in reguards to war, over taking resources from other countries (iraq), or bailing other countries out, our social standing.. we are listened to through our phones, emails, txt, even now what im writing is being scanned for key words, or red flagged to make sure im not a domestic terrorist simply because i dont agree with their agenda.. americans spying on americans.. i cant be compassionate about that.. i want answers and truths (who really killed JFK..spoiler alert, its bush sr, involvement in 9-11, iraqi war, korean war, huey p newton and the black panther party.. possessing those truths of what really happened spread out to the mass populace is a weapon we can use to demand our government to answer for their hallow, and false actions.. c’mon, am i the only one who believes that they have lied to us about practically everything?? the rich write the history books, the weak get run over and forgotten, only when the masses or groups of peasants/lower class band together during oppressive or tyrannical times to rise in revolution under the banner of the truth..
the white lotus rebellion of 1800s was because the government and surrounding provinces were run by corrupt officials, exploiting and extorting the local people.. a martial artist and physician gathered like minded citizens teaching them self defense, and the techniques to appear invisible to authorities to conduct activity right infront of them with out being noticed.. these rebels fought for the truth of humanity, community, freedom, and love of one and another.. the truth is what they fought for. they fought and died so the world and other communities would see the truth of the situation.. truth my friend.. they can try to hide it, and they can try to erase it, but as long as we continue to fight for truth and continue to ask questions and demand truth.. they cant suppress us all.. eventually they will have to answer for their crimes..true?
