Turning an legitimate question into "dismay"

https://www.highexistence.com/topic/i-have-a-bong-that-needs-to-be-modified-can-anybody-help/

This website is supposed to allow people to open up to others about things they don’t know and want to know. Clearly people here will judge and look down on you for what “I don’t know”…

Really this post got closed? I’ve see way worst posts that are pointless and absurd yet they remain open

Your original post was leading to zero growth/discussion IMO. I’m not a mod, but I’m guessing this is where they were coming from when they disable the thread. Also, modding a glass bong is pretty sketchy…thats like saying I have these wine glasses…but they’re too big, any way to make them smaller?

@estefania1, Well there is a never ending list of drug and drug paraphenalia topics on this site, find one that is suitable to your question and ask it on that, you may get a response.

@estefania1, You can try a different site if there’s no one willing to reply with anything useful. I have no idea how to work with glass. I don’t even smoke.. but when I searched for what you’re looking for in google found a site called grasscity.com – they might know something about that.

@edwardbernays, the post was new, it takes a lot of patience for something to grow.

Anyway, I guess it’s really hard being a moderator on this site.

I’m kidding of course.

Moderators struggle a lot.

To me the topic about red hair was more absurd for HE, but it’s like there is some unwritten law for everyone that they should follow the opinion of someone else and respond from there without using their own head. :) Don’t mind the shit.

@beyond, Forsure there is a lot of subjectivity on what “growth” means and how it manifests. Likewise, moderating is largely subjective. I’m just trying to see it from the mods view so I could give an answer to her question in this thread. Also, possible element of harm might of been taken into consideration (working with glass). I donno.

Btw, I posted an answer in your picture post.

@edwardbernays, http://www.bing.com/shopping/search?q=glass+cutters&go=&qs=ds&form=QBRE&aq=glass+cutters&aid=&ct=&qs=n&pq=glass+cutters&sp=&rt=Completions&tk=&spv=&sl=E&sc=&st=&ast=#x0y0 – sucks for this entire industry haha imagine selling glass cutters, I guess they’re stupid… I guess its physically impossible to cut glass.

we were given this HUGE valuable bong that all our friends say “wow, fantastic piece, if only the carb was bigger.” one person said “it’s like pulling a milkshake through a coffee straw.” little more complex device than a wine glass……

@trek79, yeah, I was thinking of that, just looking for existing threads about bongs/drugs or whatnot

@beyond, Thanks man! I’ll check out that website, I was also thinking of going into a head shop and asking them, I’m sure they can take it back to the person who sells these pieces to them and they can modify it for me. and yes, the red hair discussion WAS very absurd.
Thanks for posting and sharing my frustration :)

@beyond, No, not hard, but I don’t know what I’m doing so…

Edward Bernays (131) (@edwardbernays) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@estefania1, haha I never said cutting glass was impossible, I think you may have taken what I said out of context. Never said glass cutters were a stupid idea or that they didn’t exist, just that they are sketchy, especially if you’ve never worked with them. Fuck, I accidentally cut myself when cutting cutting vegetables, I imagine glass to be harder to work with. I was just picturing you sitting there trynna cut it with a knife. Have you ever used one of those glass cutters? Sorry if my reply sounded harsh-didn’t mean for that. Personally I’m a pipe man myself, as I think it provides superior control/lest waste, as well as its ease to carry around.

Also, Im no mod, was just trying to see it from their perspective to understand why they disabled it. Personally I don’t care whats discussed in the threads I just view what interests me.

look at the thought provoking threads one here and look at yours.. you really can’t see why yours is absurd??

@estefania1, This isnt a DIY bong shop website…

I’m with @beyond on this one. I found the red hair thread extremely out of place…don’t get me wrong, some good entertaining shit came out of it in the end once all the ego stroking was over and done with. But yeah the bong thread could have been entertaining too.

This place gets a little confusing sometimes…

@estefania1, My answer to your question was gonna be ‘buy a new bong’ :p

@melissaurban1991, You just compared what provokes your thoughts with being unhelpful.

@ijesuschrist, Being a moderator doesn’t really make you say what the site should be about. When @lytning91 was pissed off that people miss “the old HE” was because he is a moderator too. The thing is, “the old HE” started growing to a new one with the idea of making an effort to help and encourage others to help. Not really about telling people what’s right. Why do you think I call people idiots on the site? Facebook and Youtube started moving to HighExistence.com and they’re looking for personal attention, not for help. That shit is gonna be hard for the site and for its hardcore followers if it gets swallowed by random uncontrollable I-don’t-know-who-the-fuck-I-am’s

Moderators make mistakes, the cool thing about HE is that we share the love and members have the final word for what the site should be about.

@melissaurban1991, I’m not saying my post was thought provoking, i never said it was philosophical or had any depth to it. I was just looking for ideas…. and i THOUGHT i could come to this website. I’m obviously wrong. What i AM saying is that there is worst posts on here “should i dye my hair red? i don’t want people to not like me” and everybody loves it….. its just funny to me.

Anonymous (2,833) (@) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@estefania1, I think you are taking the “high” existence too literal.

This site is for philosophical discussion, self-improvement, challenges, and so forth, not how fixing your bong.

There are SO many good websites for that its ridiculous.

You don’t go into a book store looking for tools, you go to the tool shop.
The internet is much the same way, go into the bong shop if you need help with your bong.

The red hair thread survived who knows why.

Although, learning how to work with glass is a skilled learned. That is beneficial in life is it not? Learning a skill? I would prefer a thread about how to fix/make a bong over any of these, “people don’t like me” threads.

@estefania1, People here take things too seriously. (They believe they are the enlightened ones who will save the world.) :] At least you had the balls to ask. Not exactly sure what you mean with your post either, but try buying a new stem for it. Experiment with weed types, sticky or dry weed, or try grinded or not grinded weed. It makes a whole difference on a hit.

I mean, I’ll speak out on this since I was tagged anyway. Maybe I’ll fill in some holes for anyone left questions or concerns.

Basically, with moderators we have been entrusted by the creators of the site to make judgment calls of our own. We were told to moderator when we saw appropriate, keeping in mind that this site seeks to enlighten above all else.

With certain topics, it is obvious that there is a limited amount of depth in which it can go, especially if the OP is framed in a way to suggest they are half-heartedly posting for the sake of speaking. I saw the red head thread and considered closing it, but I didn’t. For me, though it might not be super deep or meaningful to everyone, it was a unique discussion post (as far as I know) and it had the potential to go into an interesting area (science behind genes, perspective differences of hair color in general, etc.) I like to give people the benefit of the doubt before closing threads.

However, someone asking yet ANOTHER question related to weed or weed accessories definitely is much less worthwhile, simply because there is an ENTIRE section devoted to the subject. If you had somehow managed to comb through all of those previous discussions and couldn’t find a discussion related (basically impossible), MAYBE I’d have let it go. The fact remains that I have seen weed paraphernalia threads more than once.

I agree with it being closed.

Another note: mods work largely independently because of our schedules and availability, but I respect each mod’s perspective and decisions made based off of their judgment. That said, they are supposed to a) notify you through PM that they modified your post and b) make it publicly know which mod took the action. If this didn’t happen, you have reason to complain because you weren’t treated fairly. We are always supposed to explain ourselves and make our intentions apparent.

@lytning91, Thanks for explaining this to me. And no, I did not look through threads for other paraphernalia discussions and if that is why my discussion got closed then yes, I am sorry for not looking.
True, this website is meant to be for deep discussions about life, personal challenges and such, but knowing that a great number of the members smoke I figured it would be a harmless question to ask. I was wrong. Lesson learned.

However, I was neither notified that my discussion got closed nor was I told who closed it. I’m curious now, who did it? Can I find out?

I closed it,
sorry I thought it was obvious but I forgot you’re new so you probably aren’t familiar with who is a mod and who isn’t.

now you know

Edward Bernays (131) (@edwardbernays) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

@estefania1, I think it was pretty obvious who closed it…go back and look at the pic a mod posted on the thread, and it should almost become evident.

Anonymous (8) (@) 8 years, 9 months ago ago

There was a picture of facepalm………. oooohh so next time I see a facepalm I should take it as a detailed explanation of why you closed the thread and that I should have looked for other threads with a similar discussion… and that the discussion didn’t have a deeper meaning.

wow facepalm means a lot of things.

and btw i’m been on here since jan 2012, I just never revolved my life around this site.
