I love to smoke weed but it puts a considerable dampener on my life if I’ve been using daily for much more than a week. I become slothful, have a worse diet- suffering from junk nutrition when my appetite becomes irrevocable for periods of like two hours, and I lose all energy to get tasks done late day if I have been smoking in the morning and afternoon. It makes me okay with being bored (a terrible thing), naturally not devoting much time toward self improvement. And I can’t say for sure but I do also seem to operate at a sub par intellectual level all the time when I am not intoxicated while I am habitually using.
Does anyone on this site use marijuana regularly and are proud of their daily routine? I would love to hear what you have to say about using responsibly, because I can’t do it.lol
I use it daily, but in small doses (little bowl in the evening, maybe a little toke in the afternoon if I’ve been cranking out work). I am pretty wired when I’m straight sober so pot helps me slow down and relax in the evenings, then after a few hours I’m ready for bed. I drink very little caffeine.
I used to drink a lot of beer but over the years have cut that to a couple of beers a week, and my energy has increased the less I drank. I exercise most mornings and eat well, so I think the pot fits in OK.
I will say that as I read about polyphasic sleep I think I am a natural, except I have an incredibly difficult time believing it could be healthy. I’ll bring this thought over there now . . .
anyway Dan if you think it’s disrupting your routine and bringing you down you are probably right. smoking fun but it’s not that great!!
Been using daily since 14 y.o. now 36, it is all about balancing, and finding what pot works for you.
I don’t mind getting stoned out of my mind at times, but for a daily usage i prefer getting high, the main difference in reaching a stoned or a high comes from the maturity of the flowers you smoke.
The sativa strains harvested early (while tricho’s are still clear/;little milky) you will notice the difference. this of course implies getting your produce from a source you can trust to do this, as most growers go for maximum yield and this requires a longer flowering period.
But in any case, ask yourself, why do you smoke? I for myself smoke to allow daily functioning without any other medication(Ritalin) which i really do not like.
There are however periods i just quit for a month or 2, sometimes 3 as I feel I need to….
I have no apparent reason for that, just a feeling… but thats good enough for me.
Exercise helps allot :P. And the amount you smoke is deffinitley a big influence. I found the more i smoked the more i could smoke and the more i would tollerate. But by keeping it to a daily minimum and taking the occasional break, your tollerance stays low, therefor, less weed smoked, for the same hi:). Saves cash too :P
I too tend to abuse it and grow lethargic and sluggish when it comes to daily use (as well as experiencing social anxiety). For me smoking weed sporadically has the best results and is the most worthwhile experience. I don’t even know that I’d smoke anymore if I didn’t find music so mesmerizing when under the influence. There’s really nothing quite like it…
I agree with Jordan. I have struggled with smoking the past years. I feel that it inhibits me to do my very best both academically and physically (I am a senior in high school). I smoked a lot my junior year and I realized that my energy went down and my satisfaction with not doing anything went up. The main reason that I found myself smoking was because there was nothing else to do and that shouldn’t be the reason. I have no problem celebrating and smoking (eg. a concert) though. I have also found that my friends react differently to smoking than I do and so I don’t think generalizations can be made, this is just my personal experience.
@ Nick: I completely agree. I too have found that I react differently than some of my friends. Mostly I get very quiet, zombie-ish. I think everyone has their own reaction to it. For the majority of the times I’ve smoked, it hasn’t been exactly a pleasant experience. When I get into periods where I smoke every day, I also find myself getting extremely lethargic, less willing to read or explore or get active outdoors or go out dancing, all things I love.
@ Dan: my advice? listen to your body. if you function better when your smoking is more sporadic and not a daily activity, then so be it. I personally find people who smoke every day a little boring and unmotivated. That’s painting with a pretty broad brush i guess, but that’s been my experience. and I don’t like myself as a daily toker either, because I feel boring and unmotivated and stagnant. So to each his own!
I’ve found that if i dont get into a routine i will be fine…but when i do the same thing all the time yeah i zone out,
I love going to the park or out in nature its an awesome feeling to explore and play in nature, me and my boyfriend go off the trails all the time, or will take photos of nature while high its sooo much fun..haha or just laying in the grass is pretty amazing:)
so i would say balance is the best way and everyones is different, i hate when i just get into a routine so i am starting to change it and im not sluggish anymore:)
Have smoked on and off for 40+ years. Married to a non-smoker, raised 2 non-smoking children. Now am in Oregon with Medical Marijuana. Have learned that anything over 3 hits is useless. Keep it all in balance, offset it with exercise and spiritual advancement.
Marijuana for me is a tool, and as any tool, it can be abused. Numbing your life by using drugs on a daily basis can never be a good thing, of this I am convinced. As such I try to learn from the insights gained by intoxication as a tool for personal growth. Never forgetting that these insights need to be used in real life, not in the life of the imagination marujiana is known to produce.
So, responsibility is facing reality as it is, not as you wish it to be, and face all roadblocks, inner and outer, not run away from them.
I’ve tried marijuana a few times and found it interesting but I don’t need it. Same with alcohol, one drink a week or less even is enough. Both cloud my mind mind too much and lower my awareness which doesn’t feel good. Reading something inspiring gives me a high.
As we can see here it is a very personal experience, matters as tolerance and without a doubt mental state all play an important factor in it all. There is however in my opinion way too little discussion on the variety of cannabis. The effects of the various strains are so different. Besides the difference in strain the method of growing and the nutritions used also have a tremendous effect on the end product. There is no such thing as just weed, over time many enthusiastic growers have developed a whole range of products and strains to create an almost endless amount of possibilities for the end product.
The advance in medical use over the last decade and more important the acceptance of its medical potential has led to a number of strain variations as well.
As most medicinal users are not looking to be couch lock stoned.
A lot of information on various effects of stoned and High by different strains, as well as there growing method and flowering times can be found on the web.
Don’t hesitate to ask any questions also …. if I can I will answer.
I do b.t.w. agree that abuse is never a good thing, but I can say for people with high energy and drive it is a tool to unwind and stay up to speed with ongoing affairs.
@ Syn.Ther : good point. I’ve never asked what I’ve been offered, I’m not knowledgeable about different strains, but I do find a pretty consistent experience in myself even though I’ve smoked quite a bit. Wonder why this is? I don’t spin in the closest-knit circles, I’m all over smoking with whoever is willing to share. So I’m guessing I’ve experienced a multitude of different strains. Hm.
@mitch. I have thought the exact same thing. For a natural stimulant. Try Bacopa, it is an herb from india that you can buy in pill form and I consider it a natural, smoother adderall, without the side effects. Also a supplement called piracetam can be used to clear up a foggy mind. Works for me. Anyone else?
I LOVE weed! I have a pot leaf tattooed on my ass.. thats how much I love it, but I only use it to REWARD myself. Such as a long ass day of work/ school and if I smoke, I always wait til after I have worked out for the day which in that case you get higher because weed is a vaso-dilator. I also try to smoke in a healthy way- vaporizer, or a carbon filter on the bong, just try use it as a rewarding device instead of waking and baking every morning
Everything in moderation. That’s my golden rule. With marijuana in particular, I stick to smoking at night so I don’t make myself tired & distracted for the whole day. Also in my experience daily use is just too much. You won’t be nearly as mentally quick or motivated as you would without it. Plus with daily use, you just don’t get nearly as high :) Moderation!!!
@m Most “commercial” strains are short flowering plants (mostly indica). there are not many shops which offer the real variety. the problem with “commercial” pot is there is hardly any control over the quality and I know from experience there are huge differences.
Furthermore the riping process of the flower and the trichomes is of much influence.
@ Thomas Vapo’s are OK ;)
I definitely know that as of last week…. HAVING A BATCH OF BROWNIES IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO MUCH OF ANYTHING….
That said, I think many people got this right. It effects everyone differently as everyone is different. So try and REALLY think for yourself how it makes you perform. Some people can smoke ALL DAY ERR DAY and get a fuck ton done. Others NOTHING….
I am somewhat in between. I feel more clear headed to do tasks before I smoke, however smoking DEFINITELY opens my brain and allows some sort of neurons to fire in a way to give me more ideas then sober…
p.s. As of writing this I have not smoked today, aside from in the middle of last night that is technically within this 24 hour period…
<~~~~Stoner! LOL but check it. I use herb on a daily but I DO WORK when im lit SON. lol I agree that everyone is different though. Im not going to lie I am a heavy smoker although I kinda hate to say it just because people make you seem like its such a horrible thing but its not, its just different for everyone. Im one of those people that smoke when they do everything. I smoke when I go run 5 miles, or hop on the kawi to drag knee around some corners. Idk mary jane and I were just meant to be haha. I am still able to get all my stuff done. It doesnt make me slow or slugish im still very much quick on my feet as they say and not just physically but mentally as well. Helps me concentrate and with my back pain for I havent been very nice to my body over the years, it has definetly taken a beating. I am a martial artist, have been in a few accidents plus I am a adrenaline junky and am extremely active so I have taken many falls for many differnt reasons. In the end though you should really just listen to your body though. It talks to you, you just have to know how to listen. So I guess for everyone its different weather it depends on the strain, what we are doing or how we feel at the moment... http://youtu.be/m_14AHVjFjY
I love you all. I wish the whole world could see this discussion and be open minded about marijuana. I think you covered every base. And agreeably!
My personal use of marijuana: As a treat, infrequently, evenings only, once in a while as a tool for exploring consciousness. If I smoke on a consistent basis, my mental performance decreases significantly. And my sex drive plummets. But that’s just me.
ALSO when I was in school, I smoked all day everyday. As in the Sublime song ‘Smoke 2 joints.’ And I was an Honor Student! I bought from the same person consistently, and I think the type I had back then was really heady, not stoney and heavy.
I am 23 and have been smoking weed and pot roughly 3-4 times a week (sometimes more) since I was 16. I have since graduated from University with a degree and have spent the last 7 months in the job I have always wanted.
I think if you have self control then why stop what you like? When you smoking marijuana becomes harmful to yourself or others then yes you probably should cut back, but when it’s hanging around with friends doing what you do with a little weed or relaxing after a stressful day then why the hell not.
As long as you know when it’s appropriate and what your doing is not effecting you in a negative way weed can be a great thing. Some of my best memories from University was smoking weed with friends and the stuff we got up to, how can that be a bad thing?
