Using your artistic medium to spread a message.

Lupe Fiasco was pulled off stage yesterday during the inauguration concert because of these lyrics in his song “Words I never said”:

“Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.”

I was watching this video and read this in the youtube comments:
“paisleymonet 45 minutes ago
now this is rap music i can tolerate. Ive always said make the lyrics of popular music political and people will get the message. lets have less civil violence and sexual exploitation in our music and start nailing the coffin on these war driven mutherfuckers!!
that goes for all artists, spread the truth with your mediums and they will listen”

It got me thinking about using my paintings and drawings to spread some kind of awareness or message rather than the aesthetically appealing yet admittedly meaningless art I usually make. The main idea I’m thinking about is something involving television and its mind numbing and brain washing capacities.

What do you think about this whole thing? What message would you want to spread and how would you do this?

This is absolutely the best way to spread a message.

I’m thinking of doing a similar thing myself one day. I tried writing music once that had some sort of a message but it’s a lot easier said than done, it ends up sounding very corny lol.

I guess the message you want to send is one that is important to you.

@tangledupinplaid21, Best song he has made, no wonder they pulled him off of there.

@skyaj, I saw Lupe just before Kick Push became a huge hit. It was in a club, there was probably only about 200 people there and I was right up the front.

One of the best hip hop gigs I’ve been to, and I’ve been to looooads.
