In 1992, Severn Cullis-Suzuki, age 12, gave a speech at the Earth Summit to delegates from all over the world. The video went viral and became known as “The girl who silenced the world for 5 minutes.” She brought attention to the environmental issues the world faced, from the perspective of those who would have to live in the aftermath of the older generation. People still watch that video, and she made people listen who could really make the change she described. We could do that again. Anyone who feels any concern at all for our future as the future, I’d like to call on you to make yourself heard, and help me be heard. It’s about time they listened to us. I am completely serious about this.
