What ARE Politics?

Em (@emily)10 years, 4 months ago

I’m more and more just seeing politics as an organized way for the rich people to literally impose their beliefs/views on everyone else. They have these debates with all their big words, but in the end, they’re just arguing who’s gonna be the one to impose "their" views on the people, "legally." (I hate politics!!!!) What do you guys think? I’m hoping for someone to argue me out of thinking that-bc that really sucks! :)

The only way to change the game is to play the game.
Get involved in politics and make your voice heard. I’m sure the Parties have youth groups at least in some places? Go after your Rep and let them know what you really think about such and such law or measure.
I don’t get it – the people that disagree with the way things are the most are the ones least likely to get involved and change it. Doesn’t get you anywhere. And if your answer to that is “I can’t make a difference” well, they got you beat – they don’t want you to get involved and take over. They’re daring you. Do it!

control and the creation of followers!

You made some good points Alexa, I was more trying to back track to discuss what IS politics? Like, what’s the purpose? Why did we invent it in the first place? I’m HOPING the reason it came to be was to “protect” citizens from violence, robbery, etc.. I’m trying to fathom how the fuck politics got to be this huge ring circus of douche bags (all IMO) telling me how I must live my life…telling me what I can or can’t do. Like….who agreed to this system? Who said this was ok to be told what to do by anyone other than your own parents?
Mitch I really like “the only way to change the game is to play the game.” I hear you–lots of things are like that—I’d compare it to a drum circle, in order to change the rhythm -you have to join and be a part of it first to change it’s direction. I just feel like the political system is set up to only serve certain people. I don’t know much about politics tho (that’s why I’m asking what it is haha)-so maybe I should get more involved (it just makes me so angry!!!!!!) :)

Politicians are supposed to be what board members are supposed to be for share holders. Representation of stakeholders. Protecting the interest of a group. after that lines get blurry. In theory politics are great, in reality….. corruptible, the weakest link….. people … greedy people.

You know I won’t talk you out of it Em.

There are basically two types of laws (and some laws that are both):
1) To give power to the already powerful. Whether it’s tax breaks for the rich (thank you Reganomics), voting for your own benefits (pay raises/special health care), or providing for additional powers.
2) To protect the stupid. Labels on everything for every detail. Speed Limits to say how fast is too fast, when any reasonable person would know what limits their car and traffic impose. Health Care Reform…

Politics has become a game for ‘career politicians’, except the American system wasn’t designed that way. The only reason we Americans have a Government is a) we needed something to keep the French and Spanish out after we got rid of the English, and b) At the time, news traveled VERY slowly. So they needed a centralized hub where ALL cities and peoples could come to discuss and resolve their issues.

Now that we have internet access and cable and nearly instantaneous access to news from all over the World, we can ALL become invested and educated on the issues we believe to be important to us.

And so Politics has become an excuse for irresponsibility and ignorance. You were texting, walked into traffic and got hit by a car? Well, why wasn’t there a law saying I shouldn’t, or why wasn’t there a law saying phone companies have to stop people from texting while walking…

Politicians are supposed to defend the constitution… but what they do is for the money. It’s all about lobbying, because they write the checks, and to me, it’s more powerful than people! I don’t vote, I live in SC, and it will be nothing but Republican forever I’m guessing, only problem with that to me is the tax cuts to rich ppl while there’s a debt crises.. Taxes are not bad IMO.. it just makes me sick, give more money to the rich… none of the republicans I’ve talked ever agree with me on that, they are the ‘job-makers’ .. yea whatever, keep waiting for to trickle down then my friend.. WI had all those protests and what not over collective bargaining but it didn’t really do anything, the lobbiest wanted it gone, so the guy passed the law.. whack.. I guess it did go to court but think the new law still stands…

When I look at politics I can’t help but start to become susceptible to conspiracy theories that get into control of the population little bit on the lines of the stuff alexa was saying.. I think to myself they CAN’T POSSIBLY be THAT stupid….

Clinton raised taxes, generated huge revenue, and budget surplus, BUT passed NAFTA.. so we got rich for a while.. but then are jobs started leaving

Bush.. omg, I wouldn’t hire this guy as my accountant that’s for sure.. Lowered taxes, but raised spending all accross the board, doubled defense spending, and attacked the wrong country.. so bad…. added the perscription drug bill into the healthcare system, unpaid for… he was the worst thing ever….

Obama put another 5 trillion of debt on Bush’s 9 trillion with bailouts.. and all the banks did with the money was buy up other banks and cosolidate their power, and still forclosed on everybody and gave out squat for money… whack.. The power of the world banks is insanse right now…

It’s like the perfect storm…

If you are interested in European politics (or the EU) and how it is not democratic you can read this post that I made about it here: http://whatistheroad.blogspot.com/2009/06/27-leaders-of-eu-that-you-did-not-vote.html

And if you are interested to know my thoughts about voting, you can do so here:

Politics only works if it is on very local level, where the people who are affected has a say in the decisions…. and sadly, politicians which technically are supposed to be administrators for the people have become puppets for the corporations…

Many probably believe they are doing good, or that is the reason they start, but in the end, it becomes nothing but a job, and people don’t want to lose there job… so they swallow what they must to get to stay in position.

anyone for civil disobedience and world wide revolution?

much love,

And here I start tackling global politics and end up sliding over to speak about Hemp!

But I make some valid points with regards to world and politics…

we are ruled by very few.
