What are your theories on life?
Hello everyone, I’m new here, but for quite some time I’ve been theorising on life. I’ve been interested by these kinds of theories, and have been wondering about your ideas on basically, life. I apologise in advance if someone else has started this discussion, but anyway, here are three that have come to mind:
1. The Social Experiment- Kind of like the concept in Maze Runner. We were all put into a simulation which is this world where we have to solve a problem (to try and lessen issues in this world), and the scientists behind this are seeing if we are successful for whatever reason. This seems like an interesting theory, roughly along the lines of a social experiment.
2. This is just a dream- As you might’ve known, we cannot confirm the existence of anything except your own mind. This may mean that I have been conjuring up reality and this world, including everything anyone else does. Also, you can never be sure if you’re dreaming, so I might be fully conscious somewhere, and this life is just a dream.
3. Everyone are actors- This is based on The Truman Show, where everyone around you are actors and your life is all staged. Nothing is real, and people elsewhere are watching you for entertainment.
I’m pretty curious to know what people think, so please share whatever thoughts you have on this subject.

This link has other theories if you’re interested.
Also, I remembered another one- That everything has been lied about. This is slightly similar to the theory where nothing is real except your mind. I can’t confirm any history was real, as I can only confirm things after my birth. For example, our exploration and other details about space might not be true, and I can’t know because I’ve never been to space. The information science provides us may not be true, as I haven’t seen proof with my own eyes. As an example, space could be an entire made up concept, and we can’t be sure of anything that we have been taught. Who knows, even satellites may not be real or the pictures is provides are false. So we don’t know if the scientists, our teachers, the media, our parents and the like have been lying to us about how the universe is actually like.
Just thought of another one: that we are living our lives kind of like the Sims- people are controlling us, everything we think, our decisions, and the actions we take. Some person is controlling even myself saying these very words. Also, we could be works of fiction, like books, and people somewhere out there are reading about our lives and doings. This one is similar to the Truman Show-based theory.
What is notorious in these theories is that they all feel like they separate people from other life.
The point I hold on to is that the living and dead matter is essentially the same thing, it is different only in the way it is organised. Alan Watts provides a good analogy in one of his lectures, saying that people in the world are no different than a whirepool in a river or a tornado in thin air. A wirepool consists of the same matter than the water, a tornado consists of the same matter as the air. Only the ways they are organized differ. Same thing with people – life is a matter special only in the way it is organised. It seems that Wikipedia calls this “Emergence” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergence
Yet, science pays surprisingly small attention to large-scale organisation of matter so far. It focuses mostly on things like individual atoms, rather than “why clouds are shaped in this particular patterns”. A good book on emergence from scientific perspective seems to be “Order out of Chaos” by Ilya Prigogine (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/783285.Order_Out_of_Chaos).
I really wish I knew the answer it drives me insane sometimes :( Wondering about all the possibilities, and what this all means. I almost think it is a dream occuring only within your mind and there is nothing “out there,” its all just a thought or metaphysical construct produced in some type of a mind. Its always been so interesting to me how profoundly psychoactive chemicals can change the very nature of your perception and how you interpret the world that has made me realize how mental this universe is. If the universe as you know it can be shattered, time destroyed and your very nature as a human broken apart and scattered across the universe then how physical is this world really? haha
As a kid I always imagined anything, the impossible. Well 20 years later and I’m questioning the “impossible” basically if you’ve thought of it, it has happened. This is one of many theories but my absolute favorite is the thought of infinite universes. A girl I met back in 2014 and befriended for 6 months, fell in love then relationship/bestfriendship ends, In another life we are married with children and happily in love, another life we are enemy’s etc. I like to think when we leave this world we are just closing one of an infinite amount of doors. It’s a beautiful and scary thought
