What do you think is the most impactful human skill/capability?

What skill or ability do you think has the most impact on someone’s life?

For a long I time I was thinking about this one and I think, at least for me, that the most impactful skill is awareness.

If I’m aware, I know what needs to be done, therefore, I can do it and avoid confusion and mistakes.

If I’m aware, I know what’s going on in and around me, therefore, I can act to achieve the best results.

If I’m aware, I’m calm and equanimous because I’m confident in my abilities.

What do you think is the most impactful human ability and why? Share.

Each ability becomes worthless if isolated. You may have awareness, but lacking the ability to act on what you’re aware of makes your awareness irrelevant. I conclude that all abilities are equal and are entirely one. You have one capability and that is being capable.

Enough talking out my ass.

Back to reality I suppose.

I’m struggling with answering, very much so. I can’t help but overthink it.. How is it possible to put the ability to hear and the ability to be aware in the same category? It makes my mind want to explode for some strange reason. *boom*

For goodness sake, someone please grease my gears, they are grinding all too much this morning.

Greetings from Volcan San Pedro, Guatemala. I made a video for this thread. It was made after an exhausting climb up the volcano. Take a look and let me know what you think. https://youtu.be/Gcw-LmK5hFQ

I can’t say what is THE biggest thing, but I know writing is a huge one, because without it we’d have no way to pass on knowledge. You can pass things along with the spoken word but it ends up getting garbled. Written works withstand the test of time, and exist throughout generations. They connect humans that exists hundreds of years apart. Foundations of generations are built with written material.

If you look into it, what gave rise to writing? What ability is required for it?
What other skills and traits does it enable?
What, in turn, enables this enabling ability?
Etc.

A working brain, some measure of creativity or intelligence if you are to write something of value, and also being born into a culture that teaches it, is necessary.

It enables many other skills and traits, which is why I said it’s so valuable.

You could have the propensity to learn how to write or be a great writer, but happen to be a member of an indigenous tribe that doesn’t use this skill, so never happen upon it. You could be born somewhere that the skill is commonplace, yet not be very good at it. So it’s a pretty valuable thing to be able to spread knowledge via writing.
