What do you wish you'd never learnt?

Quite an open ended question I know, but it was inspired by my considering the relationship between myself and my parents through the prism of Darwinian Natural Selection and was left really thinking about the whole ignorance thing and it’s relation to bliss…

So on balance what, concept or fact, do you wish you’d never really got your head around?

Looks like you’re prepared for eternal recurrence, Jon. :)

If it had to be one thing. It would be just how abusive my father was of my mother.

Otherwise whether it be beautiful or ugly it was worth learning.

I wish i had never learned how much of a backstabbing game politics was. After all, its mostly getting dirt on each other, biased media, and people being ignorant to the bad their party has done, and the good the opposition is done. Its an infinite cycle of dogma, but most will act as if they have the right answers. I never know what to believe anymore.

So you’d rather just be able to ignorantly participate in that dogmatic game without possessing any awareness of its flaws?

Pretty much. Everyone else feels like they have direction and that they can stand behind their party. Just as every conformist can find comfort in being like the rest. My main point is that knowledge can ruin some things for you, for me one of those things was politics.

i hear you. for a long time i felt the same way. but politics is more than democrats and republicans and presidential elections. politics resides in your day-to-day decisions — to spread kindness, to buy from ethical companies, to improve your local community, etc. don’t let the farce of large-scale politics prevent you from making a difference.

Are there somethings that cause me pain to know? Yes.

It causes me even greater pain to know that I could be passively contributing to these things or allowing them to happen because of my ignorance.

That to me is a greater fear.
