what is consciousness? what is reality? how do i create the reality around me?

woodstock (@woodstock) 8 years, 1 month ago

I just watched what the bowel do we know again and it still blows my mind. I watched Dr. Quantum double skit experiment and I’m still in awe! I believe in quantum physics because it is the philosophy of the behind the scenes workings of the physical world call reality. I want to dive down the rabbit hole:) I want to live be able to understand how and why things work the way they do on the most fundamental levels.why do I wake up every day and create the same reality for myself!? More importantly how do I learn to understand how to be conscious of all possibility? These philosophy’s are what drive me to persue things like psychedellic and hallucenagenic substances because when Ive eaten mushrooms I experance that world but still didn’t understand it.

@woodstock,

How do you know you wake up each day to the same reality?

How do you know you’re not dreaming right now?

How do you know you created this reality and not living in someone else’s?

How is it all the cells in your body are replaced, but your consciousness remains?

Who is this “I” you keep referring to?

@woodstock, Quantum physics is not a philosophy, mate…

“why do I wake up every day and create the same reality for myself!?”

-How would we know? The only one that knows your whys is yourself, they are your creations. Why implies intention, whys don’t just happen, they are created. Circumstances and reactions are not whys, they are hows and whats.

“More importantly how do I learn to understand how to be conscious of all possibility?”

-If anyone knew that, there wouldn’t be any spirituality or science.
The truth is unknown, we don’t know much… deal with it.

“when Ive eaten mushrooms I experance that world but still didn’t understand it.”

-It’s the same world, you just messed with the filter. And you don’t need drugs to do that.

You think quantum explains what’s working behind the scenes? That’s fallacious. People said the same things about atoms back in the day, and before that they believed in the five elements and so on… every new discovery is greeted like it’s “the answer to fucking everything” but really it’s just another layer to peel, we barely know anything yet.

Nobody knows how quantum physics work, or what’s behind it. Scientists are groping in the dark.

@manimal, About the drugs part.. you don’t need a car or bus or taxi or bike to get to work either. You can just walk.. heck you don’t need your legs either just crawl to work. Transportation is a tool just like psychedelics are a tool. Saying you don’t need them is pointless in reality you don’t need anything.

What is conscious?

-You and others experiencing being alive as simple as that for me, I do believe there’s a degree in consciousness though.

What is reality?

-What you see around you and consequences of choices made continuously. I can choose now not to post this reply and the reality of you ever reading wouldn’t exist, but since I’m hitting reply after I’m done answering your questions, my choice manifest this message in reality for you.

How do you create your reality?

-Make choices whether it’s good or bad it has consequences afterwards. Choose to surround yourself with peer pressuring drug addicts you may create the reality of you being a drug addict by the pressure of them influencing your choice. Choose to surround yourself with businessmen, you’ll choose the reality of learning how to be successful and the reality of you succeeding is ever so closer.

Conscious of all possibility?

-I don’t think you can be that, you make yourself more aware through learning and make more beneficially positive choices to create a future/reality that you want to see. But there’s no guarantee how things will ever turn out when people’s realities intertwine with yours.

@woodstock,
why do I wake up every day and create the same reality for myself!?

-You keep making the same choice. Although it may seem like the same reality it can NEVER be exactly the same. This is because our reality runs on probability.

More importantly how do I learn to understand how to be conscious of all possibility?

-Well you are already conscious of all possibility. I’m sure you know that if you punch the wall it’ll hurt. I’m sure you know that if you work really hard doing something you love that it is inevitable to become “successful”.

And psychedelics I’ve only used a few times but from what I experienced it’s an great help. Here’s a great quote for this… “Psychedelic experience is only a glimpse of genuine mystical insight, but a glimpse which can be matured and deepened by the various ways of meditation in which drugs are no longer necessary or useful. If you get the message, hang up the phone. For psychedelic drugs are simply instruments, like microscopes, telescopes, and telephones. The biologist does not sit with eye permanently glued to the microscope, he goes away and works on what he has seen…”

@stevenv, Don’t need anything? Well, you do need oxygen, sunlight, water, nutrition, the right temperature, etc. That’s fact.

Your analogy is off as well. You don’t switch vehicle, you stay in the same one, you just get a different “backseat driver.” It’s like toggling cruise control. It’s like taking an alternative route.

And who says you have to go somewhere to get to work? Lots of people work at home, yuppies and number people and housewives alike.

Drugs are grossly overrated, while the power of the mind is ridiculously underrated and ignored.

@manimal, It would be a fact if you added “to live” at the end of that.

I don’t understand your explanation on how my analogy is off. I’m just saying psychedelics help you reach those “deep” thoughts. It’s not the easiest thing to explain especially since I don’t have that much experience with it. But what I can say is it dissolves the usual filters you have and helps you see life from a different perspective.

That’s just petty detail.

Yeah? Well that’s cool that you think that.

@manimal, @stevenv,

I do think there is an overlap of quantum physics and philosophy. Just as I think there is philosophy in mathematics. Frankly any discussion of reality is philosophy. I suspect Einstein himself saw philosophy in what he was doing and was on a spiritual venture in his research and writings. As an example reference this discussion between the philosopher Tagore and Einstein:

When Einstein Met Tagore: A Remarkable Meeting of Minds on the Edge of Science and Spirituality

Also if you don’t feel the need to do psychedelics then I think that is a reasonable choice for you, but I do think we have a symbiosis with plants such as psylocibin mushrooms and DMT containing plants that unlocks doors that are otherwise unopenable and i think your missing out. Some of these don’t just change the filter, but actually transport your consciousness to another place. I don’t think that some plants medicines can be described as just backseat drivers or alternate routes, they seem to me to be a means of transport to entirely new worlds (or universes) that would otherwise be inaccessible without them. I’m not even sure our conciousness resides within us from some of my psychedlic experiences and from some perspectives I’ve read on quantum mechanics such as the possiblility of multiverses. So while our our brains and bodies may require water, air, etc, since this is a discussion about the nature of reality and consciousness i think your analogy is off. I’m not entirely sure that our consciousness needs this laundry list of things (air, water, etc) in order to survive. In my opinion conciousness has been around far longer than your physicality has and will endure long after your body dies. And I think it is a cosmic group conciousness that derives from a single source.

Crazy stuff to be sure, but that’s why I love high existence for the positive exchange of unusual ideas and the good vibes.

@arenotlost, What if we are consciousness. Also that this is a virtual reality where this body and mind are just data. Everything is data. We are here to experience ourselves in a limited fashion. Since being God could get boring eventually you’ll want to try being not god. That just resonates really well with me. Also about psychedelics I can’t wait to experience that. I’m trying DMT for the first time this week.

Also Einstein tried to move forward after the Double Slit experiment so he was “spiritual” or at least he didn’t believe this reality is objective.

@stevenv,

The source of our collective consciousness was technological and seemed to be parsing huge amounts of data and experiences. But neither the ancient plant spirit that took me there or the beings that tended to the source knew its origin. It was older than them. I also couldn’t tell the scale of what I was seeing and I had a lot of what felt like lucid time to observe and ponder it while I was there. There was nothing to compare it too. I sometimes thought it was massive like an advanced futuristic technologically advanced city, but then sometimes felt like I was actually inside my own head looking at my pineal gland….and I’m not sure if those two things are different. Far out and so unimaginably beautiful. Such a natural sense of peace and beauty. Reverent is how I feel for the opportunities I have had to visit that place. It feels amazing just to relate the story. There is so much more to any of this then we can imagine.

Godspeed on your journey.

@woodstock,
Consciousness is a result of the dynamic signal processing of the brain. It specifically relies on phasic re-entrant signaling, occurring on nested, distributed systems of local neural circuits, that are specific to the various task specific nuclei of the brain.
Rudimentary consciousness is simply when an entity has a sensorium, A sensorium is the recreation of the external world as a result of the combination of the neuronal signals generated by the various sensory modalities; visual, auditory, tactile, et cetera
In conversations such as this one, what is most often being referred to by consciousness, is actually the consciousness of consciousness, or the “I” of mind, this occurs when an entity perceives its’ sensorium.

For all practical intents and purposes, reality exists independent of the individual observer. If this were not true scientific method would fail.

The motivation to induce altered states of consciousness, no matter by what means, is the result of a very basic characteristic of the nervous system, i.e. things that do not change become ignored. Your underwear elastic, your wristwatch, anything that becomes a steady state presentation to the nervous system. By the way, this is the reason your eyes jerk around in tiny movements called saccades. When you alter the state of consciousness you become much more aware of it, and for a certain subset of the population a high existence, is highly desirable,

@arenotlost, very insightful. This has been one of the best response so far in my opinion. Thank you

@epiphileon, I very much appreciate responses like this one. I love being able to expand my understanding through the eyes and experiences of others. I do believe were all individual beings that are conscious of our self’s but we all share that consciousness from a single source. Thank you

@arenotlost, that sounds like it was a very humbling experiance.I’m jelous hahaha. That is the kind of thing I wish to experiance be it through drugs or dreams. How did you achieve this?

I want to start college but this is the subject matter I want to major in. The closest thing ive found is astronomy/physics. Are there any schools that will lead me to this type of feild of study?

Anonymous (0) (@) 8 years, 1 month ago ago

@arenotlost, Yeah they probably didn’t know either because if we are inside a virtual reality like place, than we are consciousness and it’s not possible to know source. Like for example we are the Sims and we can investigate everything in that reality but we will never be able to see the “engine”. I appreciate it :)

@woodstock,

No one really knows what consciousness is as a whole. We try to describe what is, but we’re very limited to our perception and understanding of it. So we try to get more information about something in order to better understand it, but we are only able to understand what we’re aware of.

This kinda reminds me of Waking Life, “An assumption develops that you cannot understand life and live life simultaneously. I do not agree entirely. Which is to say I do not exactly disagree. I would say that life understood is life lived. But the paradoxes bug me, and I can learn to love and make love to the paradoxes that bug me.”

My truth reads as such:
Everything is One, split from that comes everyTHING,
We are a part of that, as a self-realized biological entity
Up to this stage in our evolution, the ego was created for the sense of “self”
Being now more “self-realized”, we no longer need our egos in the captains chair.
Through the absorption of ego, comes realization that what was “happening in our “environment”, was “us” all along.
This is why resisting Nothing is so important, and perhaps why we make another ego for things out of our control and call it “the higher self”.
Stay in the spaciousness that is beyond the “you”, for that is what You are.
When your true awareness melds into one with the infinite, you understand manifesting.
For knowing goes beyond the realm of thought, which is why you follow your Heart.

The fact remains…Whether you dream it, or it’s an illusion, IT still IS…in your face, ‘real’ in every moment of existence here, yes? May as well make something of It…Ya got nothin’ to lose, right?

It’s so funny that we shred things to bits in attempts to explain Life stuff. All the sciences of the world splitting atoms to find “THE answers” to anything undefined as yet…Every scientist hoping to get their name on a star or particle. But that leaves ‘Us’ where? Gives Us what? Mostly more words for the dictionary, new books to peruse, new tastes for foods of thought. Savory, perhaps, but after digestion, food ends up as what? heehee

Nature is pretty simplistic just the way it is. It’s the ability we have to work With It that we lack skills in. Probably because until recently, science conditioned its students to only See, hear, taste, smell, touch…else it is not. Nature has more ‘sense’ than this…and so do we.

However, what becomes of those with talents outside of the ‘norm’? Yep…captured, picked apart, brain-spliced to bits…or they become weaponry. Lovely choices, heh? I love the saying “Magic is essentially the higher Understanding of Nature.” But in being magical, a tad of Self-control would be wise.
And here’s a little hint for ya…Nature loves to play with techs…It’s the energy. Ask questions while you listen to the radio & hear the words of the next song. Seek a wisdom & check out what just popped up in your Iphone messages or your Facebook page. Fun stuff. Get the hang of that, then add in intention of your own moves…of everything from doing dishes to sweeping the floor, from how you feel when you give a hug to same of walking your dog or watering your plants. Be thoughtful of what you Do with your beingness, then be aware of what occurs from that. These are experiments of sheer delight! This is being a scientist of magic.

Why not live Life with shits & giggles…Laughter is good medicine for anything that ails ya! :D Rock on, Sweety! <3

Being Human: An Entheological Guide to God, Evolution and the Fractal Energetic Nature of Reality by Dr. Martin W. Ball. It’s only about 100 pages, incredibly thought provoking, and is right up your alley. Enjoy.
