What is the absolute best book you've ever read?

I’m hoping to start reading more actual books again. What are the best or most life-changing books you’ve read?

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey, The Winter of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck and Howl and Other Poems by Allen Ginsberg have all had profound effects on my life. If not that much of a reader, i reccomend starting either with Kesey or Steinbeck, save Huxley and Ginsberg for later. They can be quite a hassle to get through…

The Catcher In The Rye by J.D Salinger

Great coming of age book

Hard to believe but this was one of the most banned and most taught books in North America…

Totally love Catcher in the Rye! I read through it in one day and think back with a smile :D

I will list 3 under their respective category:

For further development of understanding spirituality I recommend:

Enduring Quest for Meaning; author Michael Barnes

For personal/existential growth I would recommend:

Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations

Quality pocket book I’d recommend:

Vagabonding; author Rolf Potts

Fortunately I’ve had the chance to read alot of great books. One of them that stuck with me was Island from Aldous Huxley. I’ve read alot of his work and I think Island was his best one.

Siddhartha by Herman Hess. No book has influenced my life more than this one, which I read 33 years ago.

Steppenwolf by Hermann Hesse is also recommended

I’d recommend Cloud Atlas to every human with skin. My perception of power and core identity have never been so yanked out of place and stripped. It hightened my sense of compassion ten fold.

The theme is brutally beauiful, and connects through an timeless seam. The books context is also enjoyable if you like a challenge and appreciate synchronizing with the writer’s world.

If you message me an address, or somewhere I can send a used copy, it’s yours.

Hoping it’s better than the Wacovskis’ film. It has to be. ;)

I read The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield  and Essentialism by Greg McKeown at the same time (I like to alternate between fiction and non-fiction). The Celestine Prophecy is a bit more spiritual/mystical, but ignites interesting thoughts. Essentialism is rooted in productivity and optimizing your occupation. Though they sound incredibly different, they both push you toward similar questions and answers about yourself, and it ended up being very impactful to read them together. I recommend!

I’m currently reading The History of Western Philoshophy. Goddamn it’s a tough read but it’s really, really good. Set’s a good basis for pretty much every philosophy based book ever written, which I’m trying to eventually knock out but I figured the aforementioned book was a good starting point

Who’s the author? That’s just a general enough title that there are probably many books with that title.

Quite a basic book really but yes man was really inspiring and funny. The road less travelled is also a great book…hard to read and take in at times but good to understand the self and love.

Adios, Nirvana by Conrad Wesselhoeft. It is not that well written but it´s so wonderful. It´s  full of poetry and tragedies. Love it

IMHO “Conversations with God” starts out very good and by the time it reaches the second half it gradually proceeds to become a bit dull and loose out on it’s initial awesomeness.
