@lsdlover, what power?

RunnerBeneaththeSky (44) (@runnerbeneaththesky) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@lsdlover, Well I live in Canada so I would be Prime Minister though the thought experiment of one day is a bit difficult since any law I enact or attempt to have ratified could be countered or made null once my time was over.

If I wanted meaningful change I would have to bring dramatic change by setting courses of action in motion that would stay in motion regardless of my role in them. Besides the obvious of doing the exact opposite of everything that Steven Harper does, I would:

1. Reinstate the former environmental protection laws.
2.Nationalize all resources.
3.Pass legislation against gas and oil companies and indict them of any crimes they may be guilty of.
4.Set to building new sustainable energy and transportation infrastructure. Though obviously this could not be done in a day.
5.Set up a resource-based economy and withdraw from NAFTA and restructure a trade deal granting equitable rights to workers and unions.
6.Institute a proportional representation system of voting to more accurately gauge the concerns of citizens and allow smaller parties such as the Green party and the Marxists to play a role in Parliament.

@josephm, read the question again, its very simple not rocket science…Tc

khandero (532) (@khandero) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

i think i would try and convince other countries to take down their barriers, and i would take down the barriers of my country, i would attempt to unite the whole world

Alruble (10) (@Alruble) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@lsdlover, @josephm

Josephm was responding in such a way that says that he believes that the title of President gives little or no true power. That’s why he did not respond fully to the question.

I would have to say that @runnerbeneaththesky basically summed up most of what I might have wanted to say in regard to the question within the confines of my country, if I had thought about it for a while. I would probably attempt to pass bills concerning equality as well.

LSDismyGOD (63) (@LSDlover) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

@alruble, Thanks Man, it is evident that the title of President of a nation like U.S.A gives lot of Power, Bush attack on Iraq and Afghanistan , although that was abuse of Power…Tc Mate

@runnerbeneaththesky, Great views brother, there are many Marxists friends of mine, sometimes i agree with them and sometimes disagree .i loved point 1 3 4 and 5..Tc Mate

Eliminate the role of presidency. Restructure the entire system of congress so that each sector of society- i.e. Social, Technology, Medicine, Economy, Space, etc.- had its own section where only people who have legitimate trainging in those fields can represent the people and make choices on serious issues. I’d eliminate salary from the political field, making it a voluntary action. I’d attempt to begin setting up a secure online voting system that would allow everyone in the public to impact their state, city, country. Something simple like that, lol

I used to think i would push the button and start over. But now, maybe we a chance to make it right. Slim chance but a chance.

Dissolve the Republican and Democratic parties, end the war on drugs, increase freedoms, abolish the federal reserve, revamp the tax system, throw out the income tax, outlaw gmo’s, and start dumping more money from the military industrial complex into schools and the environment, etc.

What people don’t get is that at this point the military spending is practically being used against us at this point. No country in the whole world would ever consider fucking with us. We’re beyond that point of competition, the worlds armies are childsplay. Enough spending 80 grand on a rocket and maybe put it towards a salary of a teacher who actually gives a shit and deserves it.

End rant.

@conorq, @conorq, The first part is with nice decisions to end war on drugs is very important apart from other decisions of yours being president..

i agreed that U.S.A is a super power and most advance in High tech weapons, Missiles and Highest no of Nuclear weapons..etc..
i Don,t think no country in the world will ever consider fucking with U.S.A lolz…..if u have a Gun with 1000 Bullets and i got a gun with 100 Bullets we both will be scared of each other, we both will fear each other,1000 bullets will kill me, but 10 bullets will also kill u, same fear is with U.S.A and among all the countries with Nuclear weapons…they fear each other….U.S.A is also scared of countries with Nuclear weapons, will not attack them so easily as they attacked Iraq, thats why Obama a$$ started to burn when he came to know Iran is making Nuclear weapons,. if u are going to attack something like CHINA and RUSSIA… they will not do anything in return, do u think they will drop flowers at California like KIDS ? they will also cause less or equal destruction..if U.S.A will lauch a Missile on Beijing , China will also hit one on New York..same with Nuclear weapons…

the worlds armies are childsplay.?.haa hee. what a childish Joke ,have a look at the army strength of China and other armies of the world ,In a war like condition every china citizen will be there to be killed or to Kill ,no end to supply of soldiers , u know there numbers ?, forget to mention Guerrilla war method, if US soldiers will fire with latest high tech guns in a battle, they will not fire with kids gun, these Military powers had also got advanced Sniper rifles ,machine guns, shoulder launched weapons,Automatic Grenade Launchers and much more that can fuck any army out there…..killing will be there from both sides…

@yaelalonso, Online voting system will be really great, an advancement over current voting system..take care brother.

I would transfer all the money I can to education! Until if I got to transfer “just” millions of – reais- (Brazil’s money) I’d be satisfied enough. Build projects where people learn to create their knowledge, instead of just accessing knowledge. We NEED CREATIONS or the world will be the same forever. That is not funny! hahaha

Q (94) (@Qualohuasca) 7 years, 10 months ago ago

I would pardon as many criminals as I could (not the dangerous ones, obviously). That’s basically the only power the President has here in Finland.
Oh, and a truckload of public statements. Hippie-stuff, mostly.
Maybe start a sort of tradition somehow, that all following presidents would have to follow. Something like taking a big dose of psychedelics. I think this should actually be pretty much mandatory before entering the office.

Interesting thread. If the American government can shut down and the president can’t just say “stop that” and make everything better, it doesn’t seem like he has that much power. Of course, I’m not saying that he’d want to. Or that he wouldn’t be in on it. Or that the results of elections would actually be reliable (who’s checking the polls, and can they be bribed?). Not saying that America is a democratic country (try oligarchy or plutocracy), or that democracy really exists anywhere else outside of small groups of people where voting is based on something like raising one’s hand.

Gotta say, I’d much rather be one of the real leaders of the world for a day. By that I mean the top of any of the big banks that are in control of the EU and America. Then I could at least get rid of one of the banks – maybe more, through some bad investing or something.

@lsdlover, Wars are a tricky business man, unfortunately it takes more than a righteous cause to have one, there generally has to be some profit also. But then sometimes the profit becomes more important than the righteousness of the war, in fact it happens way too much.

But I will say Dictatorship is never an ideal situation for people to live in, because even if the Dictator is fairly decent as far as Dictators go, there is nothing in place to protect the people from one. It seems Democratic Republics are not much different at the moment, but that is a different disease all together.

You have the Military Industrial Complex in league with the Private Corporate sector Industries, and that is a dangerous cocktail.

What I would do is place emphasis on local communities and small business as a key to finding solutions. There is a saying “Think global, act local” that when we as a society focus on strengthening our communities the result is the nation and the world will benefit from it, but when we as a society focus on the nation or the world, local communities will suffer every time.

So I would certainly be looking toward empowering communities to put themselves first and actually have a cooperative relationship between business, and especially be looking to have smaller business locally owned, managed and employed, rather that these enormous economic juggernauts treating communities like toilet paper.

@lsdlover, I don’t think it’s possible for the president (if you’re talking about the U.S.) to do anything in one day, much less have the power to do anything without the consent of the other branches.

But if you’re asking what I would change if I had the power to do so, I would probably:
1. Put the country on track to become fossil fuel independent within the next few decades
2. Make wealth distribution in the country much more fair
3. Stop exploiting other countries for labor and as dump sites. So many countries have become crippled because of us.
4. Lift the bottom billion above the poverty line
5. Show the problems I think are most real on the media: like climate change, global poverty, ethics, unbiased politics, inspiring stories… Instead of reporting about a criminal and how he’s locked up now, let’s look at the social structure and background that probably influenced that person to commit crime. Instead of boo-hooing about another tsunami, let’s face the problem that it’s most likely because of climate change and start to change that.
6. Raise awareness about the population problem! It’s out of control and we need to start being more responsible!
7. Invest sooo much more money in education. Why do we cripple our youth with massive student loan debt when the youth is responsible for the innovations and labor that are responsible for keeping the economy healthy?

Too many to list. Of course this is my fantasy world. None of these policies could be implemented in a day and may not be feasible even if given years. But it doesn’t hurt to dream!
