Where could I locate old pictures and WWII era stuff?

Alex (@staylucky) 8 years, 9 months ago

Sorry guys, I’d normally save this for Facebook but I took the plunge and deactivated my account. It’s only now that I need it I realise it had some uses haha.

Anyway, as part of an assessment for college I have based my concept on the life of a man who lived and fought through WWII. I want to photograph some old things to display such as old pictures and maybe see if I can stumble across any old jewelry or something along those lines and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where would be a good place to start?

We have a couple of charity shops here in Australia that might do the trick, but barring they don’t I was hoping some of you bright folks on here might be able to give me some more tips on where to search.

THANKS GUYS! You’re the best and I love you all.

I think there must be museums that have that type of stuff or historical societies. I doubt if second hand shops would have much stuff although some antique stores might.

@epath, I probably should have worded it a bit better. I’m not looking for helmets or muskets (hell, we have enough of those artifacts lying around the house haha) but more things that I can purchase that were staple pieces in 1920-1950’s life. I have some of my grandfathers medals and his old watch, so I am looking for more things like that which people may have thrown out or donated to charity (St Vincents and Salvation Army being two options here). Just wondering for old photos if anyone had any suggestions either but yes, antique shops are another option too!

@staylucky, I suppose antique stores would be your best bet. In the States we have estate sales. They are like garage sales (boot sales?) but are held after someone dies or when their estate is settled. They are listed in papers. Good luck!
