Where does your username come from?

Kidd (@kidd) 9 years, 5 months ago

From where does your username come? If you want to be grammatically correct. It sounds weird like that, though. Oh well.

Anyway, as the question asks, where does your username come from? What’s the influence and inspiration behind it? Because I’ve wondered about some of your choices and I’ve grown curious. No need to share if you don’t want to, of course. :)

Mine is actually just my last name: Kidd. Nothing impressive or imaginative, really. Never been too worried about people knowing who I am, and people rarely assume it’s my last name anyway.

DaJetPlane (994)M (@lytning91) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

Mine was a nickname I picked up from one of my better friends when I was younger…it comes from the cartoon JJ the Jetplane. That said, when you shift the context to, say, the planes of our existence and our ascension through them…I think it takes on a very cool meaning.

As for the @ name, it’s a fictional I created for myself when my brother and I were younger and more creative. We created our own kingdoms, had special attributes and abilities…good times, indeed.

yoinkie (1,498)C (@yoinkie) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

Mine kind of stuck with me since I was a kid. My friends and I use to play counter strike quite often, and I always sucked at the game. I would follow my teammates, and shoot the guy they were shooting who was already weak and steal their kills. They use to say, “fuck man, you yoinked me! You Yoinkie!”

Haha, yea, there it is.

Jon Leo (78) (@d503) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

@kidd, There’s a book by Yevgeny Zamyatin called ‘We’. Its very much like Orwell’s 1984 in that its set in a futuristic dystopian totalitarian state called One State led by The Benefactor. People don’t have names as that promotes individualism, they have numbers.

The protagonist is called D503 and he’s in the same profession as I am and goes through some eerily similar experiences throughout the novel to experiences and thoughts that I’d been having myself. So, I took his name.

Minor rewording of a phrase from Meshuggah’s “Mind’s Mirrors”.

Facets like facets of a diamond! I think life is like a diamond in that there are many “sides” to each and every thing that happens.

Mai Mai (4) (@coldxstar3) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

My @ name came from one of the bosses of my favorite video game series, legend of zelda. Its supposed to be spelled khold stare but i changed it up so it looks like cold star hehe

Well my name is Sian, pronounced shan. My name has lended itself quite well to nicknames, but siantastic, as in fantastic seemed to be the one which stuck.

Nathan (5) (@birdmannan) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

My Birdman Nan came from two sources,

1: Birdman is just because I love birds,
2: As my name is Nathan, my nickname in my family is Nan,

Then one day when we were thinking of a username for generic stuff, my friend just said Birdman Nan. Haha and so it was born :D

Now this is my username for everything

Smoking dope with one of my buddies. The specific strain was called diesel and since I’m really chill and relaxed when I’m stoned he started callin me easy-diesy

Galactimus the Tang Slayer (3) (@galactimus) 9 years, 5 months ago ago

Whenever people ask me to sign up for email lists or mailing lists, I always give fake information and say my name is Butt McFartson or Galactimus. I added the Tang Slayer part just to attempt to get a laugh out of someone.

Sayuri, after an amazing fictional character who always referred to herself in third person since she wanted to distance herself from her past actions. I got kind of depressed once and saw it fitting to my own experiences and so the name was born. Also, it’s a Japanese name and I love traditional Japanese culture with all it’s customs :)

@kidd, I chose my username six years ago after looking for a new email provider. Obviously I wanted it to sound cool so I finally came to myway.com – putting “justgoing” in front of it just rocked!

Well, I’m still just going my way and so my nick has become one of two or three I use very often when joining a new community.

PS: Now that you know my email address you might as well drop me a line :)

Joltin’ Joe (9) (@joeisback) 9 years, 4 months ago ago

Mine comes from the famous Simon and Garfunkel song Mrs Robinson. There’s a particular verse in that song that is helping me go through a very difficult part of my life and the persona of Joltin’ Joe is both an inspiration and a guardian to me.
