Why are you agreeing?

Will L. (@wdluft) 8 years, 10 months ago

If this is a forum for discussion, I think that people should post if they are opposed to something and try to initiate a debate. A lot of the topics that are posted seem only to have a bunch of people who agree with the original poster and few new ideas are introduced. Shouldn’t this be a place where people share what they think and embrace criticisms that might grow? If we all just act as “yes men” to the arguments then what is there to learn?

@wdluft, so you would rather have people disagree with each other in an ignorant way even though they agree, just like what I’m doing now??
Lol I agree with you
I don’t have a problem with people who agree I have a problem with the people who see everyone agreeing,therefor they don’t share their opinion.

@wdluft, That’s completely backwards. You don’t accomplish anything by having a debate. You accomplish things by finding like-minded people.

@chodebalm, as HE what have we accomplished other then share knowledge, im not trying to make light of your statement or the sharing of knowledge, but for the most part we have many like minded people but out output as a Hethes community is a little more then nothing

@mehdi756, Spreading awareness. Discussing ideas. Take a look at the Valhalla Project. I’m not saying everyone on HE is going to contribute to that, but Jordan has made it an option for you if you wish to go up there and visit/contribute. Nothing is ever wasted by discussing and sharing ideas and knowledge. It’s the only thing that will make a difference. Discussion must be there before action, and as I said, action is available to be taken should you choose to.

@wdluft, Collaboration helps expand and refine ideas so everyone can have a better understanding and explain themselves effectively to others who disagree

Why don’t we have both?

@chodebalm, If you only find like minded people then you never really get to test your ideas. There are no right ideas or wrong ideas, but there are untested ideas, which are of no use to anybody. If it wasn’t for debate there would be nothing, all of humanity would have died out long ago. If someone tests your idea it can only make it stronger, provided you are willing to take on board what they say and reconsider your idea logically in light of these new developments.

@wdluft, Right on brother! :D

@chodebalm, The way I see it, people here all have the same opinions. Go join a political party if you want people to agree with you. There you can find like-minded people who end up with ideologies that oppose the others outside the group. When people ask for advice on these discussions, all the posts seem to point to the say thing: quit your job/school and do whatever you want. But is that really always the best thing? If the point of these forums is to come up with the best ideas, I think people should oppose genuine counter arguments. There are topics I have seen that I both agree and disagree with, but for the most part, people who post seem to only support the original idea. I think this could backfire sometimes. It is great that the conversations are being had, but shouldn’t every point of view be represented?

@wdluft, I agree. You’ll take notice of what mindless or situational whim people agree on all the time, take a look at those heart buttons.

And, take a look at a topic where a person shares how they have a problem with somebody else without knowing anyone else’s but the poster’s point of view.

Actually, it’s going to be pathetic if people are going to defend why they’re agreeing right now.

Some people are just afraid to disagree, you know. And others are so incapable of disagreeing with a delusional innocent seek for help, that they cannot even perceive anything objective in their shallow heads.

Deal with it. People are morons.

@wdluft, Im no yes man. Most topics here are full of differing opinions. or is that just the way it looks on my screen?

Zykanthos (4,757)M (@chodebalm) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@chekovchameleon, @wdluft, Both very good points. But I meant debating in the sense of arguing. It’s like….people fucking love to argue and try to prove the other person wrong. And that’s what gets you nowhere. I didn’t mean it in a literal sense, because you are both absolutely right when you say you need opposition so that you have something to test your own ideas against. Absolutely true. But the way I see it…there’s a big difference between debating and sharing ideas.

@wdluft, I don’t agree with your picture.

Your shirt is a giant advertisement and you’re buying into an “opiate of the masses” called sports – and a shitty one at that. Hitting a ball with a stick.

Every discussion tends to have a bit of both. People who agree can improve upon the initial post and people who disagree can bring new ideas to the table.

Besides, very few of us seem to agree for the sake of agreeing. Arguing for the sake of arguing, on the other hand…

When people don’t agree with me, and a debate starts..I tend to learn more about the subject in debate than I would otherwise.

How is this post a topic for discussion?

I only ever give my opinions so people can convince me they are wrong, then I change and get stronger, hhmmwahhrr

@wdluft, Step into the ring, bitch.

I’m here to start a fucking debate. Quit your whining already, butterball.

You start. Whats should we debate about?

Alex (27) (@brainnectar) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

I totally agree.

[Hidden]
Bryan Hellard (307)M (@xyver) 8 years, 10 months ago ago

@hollowinfinity, @trek79, I like how you think.

@wdluft, Because most people get super butthurt if you try to tell them there is a mistake in their discussion, or that they are misunderstanding something. The dive to “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all!”

Conflict is good, if we butt heads then our heads will be stronger. If it degrades to us just yelling at each other, then of course its ridiculous, and we won’t accomplish anything. But at the same time, if all we ever do is say “Oh my god, you’re so right! I totally agree with you!” Then we won’t get anything done either.

Like @kidd, said, we need both. And the OP is saying that we have too much agreeing, and not enough discussion.

@ijesuschrist, Maybe thats your experience of me. No offense but you come off as narrow minded. I don’t call people stupid though.
